I am on the fence about buying the scholar personality , will there be a different personality offered in the new crown crates season ?

The scholar personality was originally in the crown store as a straight up purchase. It's only in the crates now as a returning item. Other personalities may follow suit, so yes, there might likely be a different personality in the new crates.

If they're ever going to put crate exclusive personalities in, who knows?

Probably. I'd be seriously surprised if it never happened anyway. I remember the Bloodfiend animation was datamined ages ago, and that's still not available in game.
