Item Durability hitting 0% while IN COMBAT?! WHY!?

Why have this annoyingly stupid mechanic. Surely durability should only be decreased upon deaths....

Cant tell you how frustrating this is being a relatively new player, new to Veteran Maelstrom Arena this week too. You dont get enough time between rounds to manually fix your item with repair kits as there are usually mechanics still eating away at you (last boss, fire pit balls + wraiths).

The Autocharge Addon seems to work whenever it pleases too.

The addon works when you drop combat. I find crown repair kits to be extremely useful if you ever find you have spare gems, but I know that's not a good option for most people. It can be annoying for sure, but you should have plenty of time between arenas to repair. If score is a big concern, you shouldn't be dying to even need repairs. You can finish a full run with no repair needed if you don't die.

The addon doesnt work 100% of the time as stated. Ive mentioned I use repair kits. hence the addon. I said between rounds not between arenas. If my Durability hits 0% in a wave 1 of Theater of Despair for e.g. Standing still to repair item leaves you vulnerable to the lava and the ghost. Score isnt a big concern as i've stated I'm new to VMA this week.

If you mean the 5000 crown merchant, no she does NOT repair only sell and buyback options.

No, at the end of each arena an NPC merchant shows up.

If you're repairing between arenas you should never hit 0 during one. If you are, you are learning the arena... And should just Rez at wayshrine sometimes and repair there.

Your gear takes a durability hit every time you gain combat experience. Since you gain experience upon enemy death and not upon cessation of combat, you could conceivably break an item mid-fight. But if you're letting your gear get so low that that becomes a real possibility, I'd say this is on you.

Like others said, there is a merchant at the end of every round that will repair for you.

If your armor breaks before the end of a round, don't mess with it, continue on or die. If you die you should always revive at wayshrine. This allows you to recast any buffs, repair and be full on all resources when you go back in. If you dont, then by the time you revive, cast a couple buffs, everything is already spawning, you're missing resources and you wasted a soul gem. (Though let's face it, soul gems are very easy to obtain)

    Edit

Speak to the tutor for repairs. He's the guy that stands next to Fa-Nuit-Hen, the guy that gives the quest.

The most annoying thing about the way durability works is that your armor deteriorates if you use the Blade of Woe to assassinate someone. You don't even have to be fighting. My armor is often completely broken after a few rounds of gathering stolen loot to sell at fences.

I think the OP is referring to fixing gear between the rounds within an arena.

If your gear is at 100% at the start of an arena and it gets to 0% without you dying, I have no idea what you are doing but you must be taking ages.
If you are not repairing your gear between arenas, that is just operator error.
If you die in a round, simply respawn at the wayshrine and repair your gear before going back in.

Anytime you gain experience through combat it deteriorates your armor. That's why you have to repair it when killing with the blade of woe, because you are killing and gaining exp from it.

No its not on me, really.

If durability is effected by exp gain, then how f'in dumb. I cannot help that my daily playing time is around the time everyone receives enlightenment, thus increasing my exp gain x4. Couple this with maybe a death here and a death there, items hit 0% really f'in fast. Spending gold on either Repair Kits or NPCs so frequently shouldn't be a thing, i'm also not short-changing myself and fixing things when theyre on 10%..

You don't take a bigger durability hit because you're enlightened. If you're "not short-changing [yourself] and fixing things when theyre on 10%" then yes, it absolutely is on you. If you've developed bad habits because you don't understand how durability works, then now you know and can update how you play the game accordingly.

That said, you shouldn't have to come to a forum to learn this. The game makes a mostly-reasonable assumption that the typical player is going to be repairing their gear regularly, but I do think it has a responsibility to acknowledge edge cases like you, and it does not do a good enough job of explaining when your items take damage (although no MMO I've ever played actually has; it's still a problem, but the problem is endemic to the industry, not unique to ESO).
