Graphics card recommendations

I think my graphics card (hd 6850) died when playing eso yesterday. Can anyone recommend me a new graphics card? I'm looking for something cheap, and similar to the size of my old graphics card so it can in my case. Thanks.

I do fine on high with an old GTX 750 ti, which I do intend to replace soon all the same. The current gen equivalent (1050 or 1060) or their equivalents in the upcoming generation would be more than enough for eso imo, and there's a few of each that are single-fan.

My 7970 died last week and I got an Asus GTX OC 1060 DUAL 6GB (the white one).

    So far so good.

It absolutely eats everything I throw at it at 1080p in Ultra settings apart from ESO with great performance and draws a third of the power my old ati did.

1050 or 1060 is enough to run full ultra 1080p.

AMD equivalent is like an RX 570 or 580.

GTX 1070 equivalent or above if you want to play smoothly under 1080p Ultra-High setting.

1070 is actually overkill for ultra 1080p in this game. The bigger issue in this game is having a good CPU. If you've got a good CPU, you can get to full ultra 1080p with just a midrange entry GPU.

If you want ultra 4k however, 1070 would be a starting point.

I have an 8 year old computer. Originally had an HD6770...which eventually died. I replaced it with a Nvidia GTX 1050Ti with 4gb DDR5 Vram. So far, this thing stays cool (55-60°F) and rarely runs the cooling fans when I play ESO with all settings to High. I got it when it was on sale at the local Mega-Electronics Store (Fry's). You can probably find a deal on Amazon.

I've been playing on an hd7850 1gb (years ago) and it worked just fine with medium settings and some tweaks, then the same with 2gb memory and now I've got hd7950 with 3 gigs, which is totally fine for ESO high settings (again with some tweaks for maximum performance).

Another good way to bump up performance is to play with profile settings in AMD's software, in case you go with an AMD card. I know there's something similar for NVIDIA so remember that if you get one of those.

Those are my experiences, hopefully it helps.

Also, as someone else mentioned, GPU is not extremely important for ESO, CPU does more work there.
