Today I made a decision that is probably going to extend my play time in ESO and greatly increase my enjoyment.

I deleted 3 of my 6 characters.

I'm done with your grind ZOS. Well...almost done. My main is a PVE stamblade that I really love to play. In fact, he's the only character I really enjoy. He's "done" in terms of skills to grind. Sure, there's more gear he could use but unless I'm enjoying a dungeon or trial, I'm not grinding for an incremental 1% improvement from my gear to the latest BIS.

But I had alts. I didn't play them often but every time I did, I was reminded of all the things I "needed" for them. I NEED several hours of grinding AP for Vigor and then a few more hours for Caltrops. I NEED weeks of grinding Undaunted for Mettle. I NEED to grind Dolmen for Fighter's guild for Dawnbreaker. And I NEED to grind a bunch of dungeons for gear. Oh, and no I NEED to grind approximately 170,000 raw JC materials to upgrade jewelry. ROFL. Nope. Done.

I've reduced my character list to my main, my crafter, and my dedicated PVP character. No more alts and no more hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of game "work" to get the things I "need."

I'm sure most of you are thinking "You don't actually NEED any of that to have fun!" I totally agree. But taken a step further, I don't NEED any alts to have fun. DELETE!

Well done :) I mean it. I have three characters from the three factions that serve different roles. I only 'grind' what I think I really need for that character and don't plan to do more.

That being said I actually enjoy to 'grind' JC right now :D I have made a plan how to get it 'done' and I think it'll work pretty well. I won't rush it and it will involve money, but overall I thought that it would be much more 'grindy' and mind numbing.

I can understand where you are coming from as a confirmed altoholic myself. After finishing up the Psijic skill line last night on my main character, a magblade, I have decided to just play this class and try to improve on my knowledge/skill level of it.

The game has gotten to a point where there is so much work that needs to be done to fully develop a character I just have no interest in it anymore. This is strange for me because in the first years of playing ESO I was constantly leveling alts and switching mains, even on multiple accounts.

Between lack of shared achievements and titles, PVP ranks, motif knowledge, crafting research and now the new skill lines and quests/skill points, redoing the grind 15 times seems insane.

Sorry. I have no idea why I should delete my alts on my main account or the second one. I've never really felt any need to do any "mindless grinding" for anything. See, if you're playing the game to enjoy it, and not to min/max uber competitive fotm/bis whatevers, you are fine with crafted gear enchanted with glyphs you make for yourself. I quest to level for the most part, doing the mages and fighter's guild dailies semi-regularly and doing writs with my main crafter. I avoid pvp like the plague. I've never bothered with Skyreach, although someday I'll do the quests in Craglorn. Never understood the mindless grinding no matter whether its the constant runs through Skyreach or the mindless lemming zergs running anchor loops endlessly. If that's someone's idea of enjoyment, more power to them. I've never done it, and don't plan to. And I'm keeping all of my alts, thanks.

Well, I do enjoy more chars than just my main (in fact since it's a magplar tank and I started getting into trials, I barely play him any more), so it wouldn't be an option for me.

And yeah, grinding is real. There should be a catch-up mechanic for more than just CPs and gear, for example skill points and possibly even skill line unlocks in some cases (undaunted, alliance war, TG, DB, psijic). Over time both of these things become more and more, and it's harder and harder to justify starting a new alt (reducing char slot unlock sales as a result *wink wink @ZOS *), since it's taking longer and longer to get to the point of being ready to play what one actually wants to play.

Just have a main and use ALTs for daily crafting writs and hirelings - easy way to make lots of gold over the months.

In fact this week my last alt hit level 50 simply from doing daily crafting writs. It has done no quests and never left craglorn since it was made.

Quite. Sometimes chars. languish for months and then I take a mind to spend a lot of time with them. Mood dependent. I don't even really have a "main", well aside from crafter. No grinding as I refuse to. Then again, I'm in no hurry at all as I'm one of those "journey not destination" sorts.

I had 6 maxed out characters and zero gold because I constantly changed my builds.

I made a new account and left my maxed out account that I had since console launch and I couldn't be happier. I have 1 character and that's all I need.

I have 15 character who all fit a specific PVP or PVE need. Much easier than having to change gear and cp everytime I want to do something different. I just change characters and I am ready to go.

The only grind really necessary is for trying out new builds. But that grind is going to happen with 1 character or 15 so it makes no difference.

You monster ! You're abandoning a child just because he didn't make it to Harvard !!!!!!! :)

Joke apart, yes it looks like ZOS underestimated the huge journey for leveling both jewelry and psijic skill line, for us players of many alts.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm always very interested in how people deal with the "neverending" nature of the game. All differently.

I also have way more fun with a limited character roster. I started with that plan before i even started ESO. I didn't actually delete alts to make room, though I did delete an alt early on (I didn't like that much class wise) when i made my magsorc and decided on my main. He does everything.

I made one purely for thieving alt and to have a stam one. And one alt that is basically bag space, but obsolete now with the housing chests. Both get dusted off for events when I feel like it too. There is no other grind for them, no musts, no goals.

That's it.... and all I intent to ever have. And I love it this way.

Why did you have to delete them? Could you not just have converted them to mules? I have characters I might not play for years, but deleting them would be a needless waste.

My first alt was a Magicka Sorc that I've probably played twice in the past 3 years. But he's there in case a group I'm in needs a negate some day...... until that day, he's a mule.

Oh, and he was the best dressed Sorc in the Legend Outfit contest too!

Best dressed Sorc NA and I don't even main it. :p

I understand where you're coming from. My best ESO days were when I had three chars who all had different roles and factions and played very differently: my main, a DK tank; my crafter, a stamblade; and my ranged dps/healer magblade. I could switch over when I felt like doing something different, but I also had enough time to devote to each of them and learn each playstyle well. Now that I have an army of alts, I feel like I'm not accomplishing anything when I constantly divide my time between them - and there's always something more to be done, more skyshards to collect, more skills to unlock, more gear to acquire. Even after I started focusing on my main again, there's this nagging thought in the back of my head that I'm neglecting all the other characters. So I understand why you deleted yours: can't worry about them anymore if they're gone!

It's troubling because I like creating characters. I still have a few unused character concepts, I few interesting backstories I'd like to bring to life, but the truth is that I'd probably be better off if I turned them into fanfiction stories rather than actually create them in ESO.

Like someone mentioned above, yes, we did it to ourselves - but I didn't know it would turn out this way when I started creating alts. In single player RPGs I'd abandon one playthrough and start another, but here all my characters exist simultaneously, none of them are ever finished with their journey. It was a new experience for me.

    I've thought about this but...

I would then probably make more alts and it would be "MOUNT TRAINING" "MOUNT TRAINING" "MOUNT TRAINING" all over again, never mind grinding for anything else.

Oh my gosh, my legs have gone funny, I need to sit down, wait, I am sat down, do you see what the thought of mount training does to me, runaway....................

yes indeed cant worry about them anymore when they're gone!
also they cost a small fortune when creating builds for them for pvp ect,

Since only playing one toon ive been the richest ive ever been and ive managed to get a big house and fully furnish it, Previously unheard of for me while constantly throwing coin at alts.
