Upgrading jewelry to gold: 8,000 raw mats? (corrected: 13,600 raw mats)

Hopefully my math is way off, but...

Assume you get a gold plating every 100 raws (about what I get golds from with ore, wood, and cloth).
Need 8 for 100% so you need 800 raws.
But it takes 10 refined golds to make one usable gold so 8,000 raw mats to upgrade one item?

Ok...I get it...gold jewelry is far harder to get than gold weapons or armor. But I'm hearing of people refining over 1000 raws and not getting a single gold. Anyone have better data?

EDITED: Scroll down for some small-sample size results on refining.

You don't get a full gold plating everytime you crit, its one of the 1/10 ones that convert to the full plating

My guess only alternative to buying the dust is to farm it yourself

Make sure you have full refining passives if you want gold grains.

It takes forever, but its probably about the same time as waiting around for the Golden Vendor to come up with the jewelry you want (assuming the vendor even stocks it).

That's what I said. I took the 800 needed and multiplied by 10.

Oh trust me sometimes its well over 800, I refined 9,000 and only got 12 of them

This is a crafting system apparently designed to ensure that nobody uses it other than daily writs and making research material while it still sells well.

Who needs sleep? Or a job? Or real life? They threw us a bone with this crafting system, but made sure it's completely inedible, poisonous and smells bad.

Anyone seen any gold crafted rings in guild traders? I can imagine a hundings ring will eventually pop up at 1.5 billion gold in price

Far easier to get carried through a couple vet trials and use trial gear in your jewelry slot. Given that the drop rate for weapons is equally ZOS'ified and astronomically low, the formal is vet trials for jewelry and crafting for weapons.

Another else is for professional ZOS-paid gamers.

I would suggest ignoring gold jewellery. Is an extra 60 total max stat or a tiny bit more from infused that important to you? Will you kill more players or kill a trial boss any faster?

    well

    10 grain for a plate
8 plates to gold a piece
    8*10=80

average amount of gold mats i get from refining is about 1 per 100

    80*100= 8000 for 1 pc of jewelry

    8000*3 for you set is 24000 :)

so yes, jewelry crafting is broken, yes we told them that on pts, no they didnt comment and yes they did decide to not take feedback and put it in the game like that and yes we also told them ppl were going to be upset

^ alot of that this patch

also jewelry traits are garbage :)

They have done it this way so existing gold jewelry and the golden vendor doesn't become redundant.

It's a good system if you ask me because it makes gold jewelry special - truly legendary and not something everyone can have

    What about purple ?

    Is it 5% (1/20) from refining ?

    40*20 = 800. 2400 raw mats for a purple set. That's crazy.

And with the traits being weaker than the basic ones, it looks like the only use of JC is daily writs. A shame for something waited for four years.

Edit : And remember, these raw mats are about 25% as common as other ones.

You might be unusually lucky, but I have decon'd a LOT of mats in my day. I think the going drop rate is much closer to 1/200 raws for exiting crafts. So frankly, I think your estimates are about 50% low. That 1/200 number is pretty well established from people I talk to. Also, if you look at raw mat vs refined mat MM prices, the difference per price for a stack of 200 is very close to the cost of the associated temper.

I did see the first guy selling refined gold mats in zone. He was asking 400k a pop. So you know, 3.2 million to upgrade a ring to gold. Seems totally reasonable...

In any practical sense, gold jewelry crafting is not part of the game. Blue jewelry is and transmutation for jewelry is very real and with a grind you can eventually get a couple pieces of purple. If they would have put that on the ad for summerset, I'd have been happy about it. I'd even have one if those "shut up and take my money" memes. They really struggle with honesty when presenting their products though. So instead people are frustrated and feel ripped off.

You're right. I've already made some healthy stuff robust and you don't even need a max level crafter to do it.

If they don't change anything, I don't think so. Considering seams are about 25% as "common" as other nodes, this would mean that the price for a single unrefined golden temper would be around 3 times more expansive. But you don't need only 8, you need 80 to upgrade to gold.

If nothing changes, it will always cost at least 500k to upgrade 1 ring from purple to gold. That is insane.

Yep! I got to level 50 last night. I have enough mats to make 2 sets of blue jewelry and could make one piece purple. It's definitely doable. Gold is going to be another story.

Was thinking about making a bloodthirsty Purple Julianos neck to see what I can get for it. haha.

It's a bit frustrating now that I am 6 trait and maxed crafter, that frankly, there really isnt anything I need to make. Other than trait change, I dont see a lot of use for JC.

They weren't going to change anything. The same balance concerns and concerns over people not running dungeons are still there. They wanted something big to sell though so they did this. It's not like they are surprised and aren't sure how to proceed.

How does a set of blue swift night silence sound? It's nothing like the gold hundings I had in mind. Or the gold sets I wanted to make from blue drops I get soloing normals. But I think it may still be fun. I think that's the level they wanted to add so they did.
