Chests, Psijic portals and [REDACTED] Players

The problem: You encounter a chest of portal, open it and find all that's left inside it is meh tier items due to some players being ***

The Solution: Make the portals and chests despawn 30 seconds after they have been opened, of course this would only apply to overworld chests, dungeon and trial ones would remain untouched [and drop an angry boss monster on them per item they leave behind]

30 seconds is not enough to clear your inventory sometimes.

Make that 3 minutes and you have a deal.

Make all loot from chests, resource nodes, portals and similar a "package" of either take all or nothing. Since so many players cannot or will not adhere to the basic rules of courtesy, shove it down their throats.

how long does it take to press I, click the misc bag, grab crap [like husks for example] and throw it out?
Personally takes me about 4-5 seconds, tops

does that make the "package" take only one slot in your inventory until you do have time to clear stuff? that'd be awesome. if not, it wouldn't fix the problem.

The solution, of course, is for players to not be selfish and take out their trash. You open the node/chest, you empty the node/chest. Take out your trash.

We've had this conversation multiple times on the forums. Inevitably someone goes "Well, you're the selfish ones for wanting me to cater to you! (By expecting me to take out my own trash)."

I get it, I do. No one really likes taking out the trash. But seriously, have enough respect for other players to take out your trash.

Or else you might hear me in zone going "[Rubedite Helmet of Health] looking for owner who forgot it in a chest" because I got left with your trash and so I think you're a selfish jerk who stuck me with an unemptied chest/node because you couldn't be bothered.

Chest trash should be enchanted so it follows them around smacking them around the head until they pick it up and dispose of it like a decent person  But yeah, I like the idea of only having a 'take all' option.

    that could work too

    1. Summon merchant
    2. Look around to see where merchant spawned
    3. Interact with merchant and wait for interact lag to end.
    4. Auto-sell junk that doesn't actually sell anything
    5. Try to figure out which item you can spare that's less valuable/usefull than whatever junk is left in the chest.

That does take me more than 30 seconds depending on how much coffee I've had.

Yes. And I usually only run out of inventory space if I'm participating in guild events and therefore not going at my own pace.

But honestly, without Wykkyd's toolbar to tell me what my inventory it, I would run out of space all the time because I don't keep opening my inventory to check.

as long as unique only have one in inventory items are in those containers there wont be any easy solution.

its not the guy who got there first's duty to police the item for those who come later. (spoken as auto-loot on guy.)

not everyone has bought merchants to summon.

now, if you want a solution that works - add an option for "s" when you are looking at a container. "S" = sell and it empities the chest and awards the character appropriate gold value as if the chest contents had been vendored.

they can take what they want a freely instantly vendor the remaining stuff for gold on the spot.

    you're welcome.

Simply make the package auto-open and its contents go in the appropriate bag. It can't be that difficult to program it in a way it doesn't inconvenience the player at all.

EDIT: Yes, treasure maps are an issue. The solution is to autodestroy the duplicate. For the player looting the container, it doesn't make a difference anyways.

If that option meets too much resistance, prompt the player. "This action will destroy treasure map xy. Do you really want to loot this container?" Pick no, send the map, reloot the container.

How about the chest phsically opens after it has been picked, that way your lives wouldn't be ruined by having to put your cursor over it.

It just seems strange to me that people would rather have no chest than to loot someones leftovers.

If there's no chest (or an open chest) I can move on my farming route quickly. No sweat.

As opposed to running up to the chest hoping for sweet loots, discovering its been used, cleaning it out because I hate leaving trash for someone else to pick up, and thinking the other player is a jerk for leaving their trash behind which is now cluttering my inventory.

So yeah, I'd rather people picked up their trash and cleared the chest. Not everyone feels that way, sure, but if someone leaves trash behind in a chest, I think they are being a selfish jerk.

    Autodestroy??? WHY????

How about making them stackable like surveys are?

I don't understand why that wasn't a thing when they made surveys stackable.

it's not strange at all, the fact of the matter is, while there is the "left over" chest a new one can't spawn, in other words.. it basically blocks other people's chance at getting loot

    The problems are 2:

    1. People see node from a distance, stop what they are doing to go over to it, see it is trash no one wants
    2. Potential impact on respawning of that node and other nodes on map. It is still unclear to me if this is actually a thing though.

You're sure this is how chest spawning works? I have heard that chests will respawn normally even if stuff is left behind.

That is why I suggested the chest appear opened after it has been picked, that way you can see it from a distance.

Make Chests turn into old school DnD mimics, if not cleared....then you have to kill the chest after interacting with it then the left over items are in a dead Corpse it doesn't affect next person.
IF it kills you, it takes the stuff back and adds new items for next person!

Also to alleviate the full inventory you will be allowed to access your inventory while the chest is open so you can Make room before the chest attacks you.

If you clear it then the chest acts like normal and doesn't come alive after you.
    Ummm stuff… about stuff…or something.

Don't go on a loot venture with full bags is one solution.
Takes a couple of seconds to discard one or two pieces of trash in your inventory to take the entire chest.

Best is either make the chests/portals disappear x seconds(imo 30 seconds is more than enough) after being touched or just don't allow selective loot on those, make them loot all or loot non.
