Giant Clams the real grind of summerset

I honestly haven't noticed any of the clams. The two recipes I got in about 40 min fishing.

I do get the occasional double catch when fishing with more than 1 (observed with up to 5 at a single hole) but it's rare, certainly too rare for the food to be worth it.

Regarding clams:
- I don't think their looks need to be changed, they're hard to spot yes but obviously that's intended. Once you know what shape/size/color you're looking for, they are not that hard to see as they only occur within a very narrow strip of land.
- Putting furnishing variants of these shells out in the wild is just cruel and unusual punishment. Great that you guys gave us a version for furnishing, but when I find one in the world hidden from view below an overhanging rock that's twice as big as the usual one I expect a double drop or something, not an unlootable prop that looks exactly like a desireable container.
- I seem to get a water hyacinth about 1 out of every 2, which seems a downright bug - a plant growing inside s shell? I don't mind the occasional 'dud' with some guts and fish roe (as posted, and yes I've had the exact same drop from several of them) but I have a feeling that every time I find a water hyacinth it's just a bugged loot list and it was really meant to be the powder. If I got one of the new ingredients every time I got a water hyacinth, the combined drop rate of fishing & clam looting would end up being in the region of 5 times as much as roe, which seems to make sense as you need 5 of them to make the new yellow food, of which the magicka variant costs 1 roe.

Huh. I just fished in Summerset/Arteaum for the first time today, and was wondering why people were being jerks about not wanting to fishing with me. Leave it to ZOS to make the one thing in this game where people were encouraged to just chill and hang out together into "B---h, get outta my fishing spot!!!" Well, hopefully these people will get tehir recipes and motifs soon enough and go away.

I fished on and off in between questing and waiting for geysers pretty much all day. Got a couple of motifs and a few reagents, and nearly all the trophy fish in both Summerset and Arteaum, but no recipes.

Edit: actually it says in the patchnotes that is was a bug to begin with that you would fish 2 fishes... QQ.. I actually was waiting for it to quiet down and already had the made food before I wanted to use it because of the double fish.. now it was a bug and they already fixed it...

Are Clam Gall en Mother Of Pearl only good for these two recipes? Are are they used for anything else, like furniture?

alchemy but there isnt even an achiement for their traits..

This is a ridiculously low drop rate for items that are used in food and alchemy recipes. Took two hours to find one giant clam and it had neither in it. I saw it spawn so I know no one took them and left the rest.

Spawn rate needs to be increased and add them to all areas.

The rate is so low it makes it not practical to use them as intended. You are just causing players to have a justified reason to be upset with this addition to crafting.

I have gotten Gall for every clam. Mind you, it's a small sample size, but I was touring the unpopulated areas of Summerset.

Fishing for Pynadonean bottles has been a much more reliable source for clam gall and mother of pearl than the giant clams. I've found one and it had bait in it.

I'm using the map pin addon to track where I am finding them. Some days I only find a couple, some days more. I'm up to around 30 of each of Clam Gall and Mother of Pearl. I run geysers sometimes, but I am doing a ridiculous amount of fishing so that comes first, while also looking for clams and hitting the nearby geyser when it comes up. Took a break from my normal area of searching to knock out all the fishies I need to find, only need one more foul fish and then I can go back to hanging out in the same stretch until I've found all the motif pages I'm looking for.

This would all be solved if they allowed us to purchase Clam Gall and Powdered Mother of Pearl from the Crown Store.

Just do the Geyser farming.. they drop from those as well. Much easier than tryng to run around Summerset looking for Giant Clams.

So far I’ve only found 14 giant clam sites. Makes me wonder how many spawn sites there are? Anyone know?

A month in and I finally found my first one. Completely by accident. I was running along the coast after finishing a Geyser and my cursor lit up. Caught me by surprise and I stopped to actually look at the thing before opening it. It was practically invisible under the water. And I almost couldn't find it again.

So at a month's time to find one, I expect to see my second one in early August.

I find them on a fairly regular basis. That is to say maybe 6 or 7 each time I do a run up the coasts. However they are not worth the effort to grind, as they are mostly full of bait or junk. I've only found a few Clam Gall or Mother of Pearl dust in the dozens I've picked up.
