Have you guys considered changing the game engine or a total overhaul which can help you in further development? At the moment it looks like you have very limited options what you can improve.

I've said the same thing. It's not like they don't have the money. Putting band-aids on it is obviously not doing the job.

If you look at the big picture, they have basically overhauled the engine over time. The reason performance seems stagnant is because it's doing so much more than before because of the huge expansion of art assets.

If anything, they need to slow down the rate of new development for a bit and fix bugs such as the 30-50% FPS drop bug that is still an issue for some players.

The interface is probably the worst part of the client at the moment. Especially the lack of features players consider essential (MM, Awesome Guild Store, Advanced Filters for example) and the implementation of addons that gives players the rope to hang themselves with in terms of performance.

A well-developed game doesn't let players destroy performance with addons. It's not enough to say, "use them at your own risk." It's something that needs to be addressed.

Does this mean we shouldn't expect any improvements with hexa or octa-core CPU's?

you will feel improvement on any multicore cpu including beyond 4-cores. Right now there's still some hickup/stall/minifreeze problem that makes the experience not so fluent but that might be better or solved even after next patch. Evaluate after that patch

The only good thing I noticed after patch is no more RAM leakage at least in my case and that's it.
Cyrodiil is (much) worse and PvE performance (outside famous micro-stutter) is same except I see all 4 cores used.

The cowardly Wood Elves are best noted for their unwillingness to engage in a face-to-face attack; a Bosmer will strike at you from every side except the front. You won't cross swords with a Bosmer, but you might catch an arrow in the throat. Be wary in forests and jungles, and watch your back.

The thing about an mmo is even if it does improve FPS, it's really hard to tell because it's really hard to objectively test since the main cause of FPS dips is other players around you.

If the FPS improved by 2 FPS would you really even be able to tell in this game? It's not like you can load up the benchmark test that so many single player games come packaged with these days.

I think this is probably the case with most people who see no difference. It's just such a small difference it's basically unnoticeable. Then you add in the fact that the game has had a spike in players, especially in the new zones, and people will be like "performance is even worse!!"

So I take it today's patch 4.0.8 will include the fixes. So we should revert the config back to:

    SET MaxCoresToUse.4 "-1"
    SET RequestedNumJobThreads "-1"
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "-1"

    Which are the defaults, correct?

Bad, very degraded performance. Lots of screen freezes and stuttering where before I never saw even the slightest hint of it and everything was perfectly smooth.

yes I believe they are. It's also possible the devs tweak or change values even more this patch. For instance they could conclude that using ALL cores on a 12-core I7 (=24hyperthreaded) mesh structured cpu is actually counterproductive and therefore limit the default value to something like "8" or "6".

In any case you can close the game, rename the existing file and start the game after patch and you will see the current/new default values in that file being generated by the game. Not happy with them ? close the game and swap back to the renamed file

I've just logged in and it doesn't appear that anything changed. I get humongous system lag during character loading (this was gone on PTS), and game is stuttering like crazy too.

    Performance

Reduced the large FPS dips when moving into areas with many characters.
    They fixed... something.
I'll report later when I play it.

I've actually had significant improvements after Summerset. Game is utilizing more cores so my overall CPU temps are down.
Remember to reset the config changes you might've added before as shown above in this thread.

My only issue is seemingly random 100-0 fps drop that goes on for like half a second. Don't know what that is about.

just like the other people before it sounds like you still have some old setting in there that is not adapted correctly. Starting with a clean slate now after patch will cut it out

Tested after the patch. Ran around in Vivec city, no FPS drops or microstutter. Ran some daily dungeons, smooth as silk. I did reset the following usersettings.txt to defaults:

    SET MaxCoresToUse.4 "-1"
    SET RequestedNumJobThreads "-1"
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "-1"

Seems good so far. Will try again tomorrow when more people are around :)

sorry to hear that mate. You have basically the best setup available. You could try running it like before summer set on mainly 1 core by changing the default value for workers from "-1" to "1" (while the game is closed) and see if that helps your fps. Worth a try and if it doesn't help just revert that settings immediately to it's previous value

Besides that I can tell you out of the top of my head how you can seriously boost your fps permanently for sure (like 20-40% gain) without losing huge on graphical detail even with the post summerset changes:

    1. overlock your 3.2Ghz permanently to as close to 5GHz as your cpu cooler and hardware allows (disable intel speedstep in bios, select max performance power profile in windows)
    2. In ESO settings set view distance to 70 or 60 instead of 100 if that's acceptable for you
    3. In ESO settings set water reflections to 'low'

I hope any of this can help you. If not I apologise for wasting 2min of your life =P

Those dreadful long loading screens takes around 3-5 minutes to clear up everytime I use a wayshrine even on the same map. I lose half the time of a 150% xp potion in just loading screens. This is awful.
