Champion point diminishing returns?

CP 215 player here. Just wondering at what number of CP points should a player stop investing in a particular buff?

For example according to the UESP page http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Champion you can get up 15% damage reduction to fire (great for vampires), shock and frost under Elemental Defender. How many points would be worth putting into that (or any other CP buff) before it becomes more worthwhile to use elsewhere due to diminishing return? Has anyone actually achieved the 15% buff cap for Elemental Defender (or any other buff) and if so how many CP did it take/cost?

Please note I am assuming diminishing return. I don't have enough CP to actually test/observe the effects of diminishing return.

Any input/help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Rule of thumb with CP: never put more than 56 points into anything unless you really and truly have nothing else worthwhile to put the points into. Diminishing returns start to really bite you hard after that getting worse and worse as you approach 100 points.

For red CP you do have a lot of useful damage reduction choices so spreading CP around is what you want to do there.

Short n obvious answer: as soon as something else grants you a bigger advantage for the amount of one additional % on the questioned cp. Mind jumppoints. As a rule of thumb: most dd invest around 49 cp in hardy/ el def because the next full percentage demands much more cp than it does at thick skinned m or ironclad. It also depends on how much you expect to „use“ certain things. Is there more mag dmg to expect in trial xyz or more physical? Also passives granted are an important factor. Some builds make best use of „illogical“ cp setups just bc of passives like proccing off Balance via dodge while wearing 5 medium + truth set. All build depending.

Awesome input guys. I also found a good resource on Woeler regarding CP point jump percentages:

    https://woeler.eu/champion-points/

Literally spells out at what CP amount invested does your character achieve the next percentage buff. (I.e. the game rounds down the percentage listed in the CP system. If you have 16.74% in a buff it gets applied as 16% in game/effectively).

To put this comment into perspective, a CP that offers 25% buff grants 24% from the first 75 points and only 1% from the last 25 points.

That shows how steep that curve is.

The idea is that the less experienced person placing points there they thought was cool would not be as hindered since they are likely to spread points around.

If you are interested in seeing optimal builds for CP I suggest you look at successful builds. If PvE you can look at Alcast since he has some good build and has aspects that take into account that not everyone is a top raid DPS like he is.
