When you make new characters, do you always go through the main story and alliance story?

At this point (8 vet characters, 4 in the level 20-50 range, probably a few dozen deleted toons) I don't really bother with old content for it's own sake. I'll do those quests if I feel like it for the skill points, but it's not really a priority any more.

I have three characters that are cp250 that I am still doing the main story lines, but my healer and tank I made, thinking of doing the main stories had me like "uuugghhhh"

I can't build a char I consider viable with less than 250 skill points. So yeah, Cadwell's gold is always the first thing on my to-do list. But only for the skill points, wouldn't do it otherwise.

Considering that more skill points are added every patch, it takes longer and longer to get a char ready to do things I actually want to do with it, so a skill point catch-up mechanic being added would be nice.

I tried the Ali'kir dolens, and I get such little amounts of experience, it's not even funny, and that's with new toons, or my toons that are past cp160.

I have actually had better results doing the dolmens in Auridon. I get double (triple with xp scrolls) the experience than what I would get from Ali'kir, also, there is a lot less people too.

I play whatever I feel like at the time. Like, I finally got MW, so I made a Warden and played through MW with it. She's also poked away a bit at the main quest (to unlock some things on the Soul skillline) and the first zone of her alliance (for skillpoints). But nothing serious. And also bouncing around to other places (Gold Coast, Craglorn) for dailies during the anniversary event.

when I create a new character I only go through the Dolmen storyline, I can't tell you how many times Molag Bal has threatened to use my loved one's skins as banners. It certainly isn't the best plot ever, but the imagery is quite vivid at least.

(to be frank, I have only levelled new characters through grinding during 100% exp events, I've gotten Cadwell's gold, I don't need to relieve it all the time.)

Ultimately I will, but not necessarily straight away. Usually I complete all the original starting area skyshards and rare fish together with the quests in the starting area(s) for the character's alliance before worrying about anything else. There are various other skyshards I also routinely access for skill points early on such as at Daggerfall and Vulkhels Guard, for example.

I think I have done the main story on about 6-7 toons, and have assault rank 10 on 9-10 toons. Only reason I would do the mainquest on a new toon is if I need soul assault. I take every toon to at least warhorn/vigor/caltrops/prox det in PVP, and a lot of them get to Assault rank 10 for the passives.

These days, I frankly grind when I want a new toon and level what I will need. I think I am done with new toons until we get a new class, which I am in no rush for.

When you make new characters, do you always go through the main story and alliance story?
    Yes.

They would feel incomplete without all that... without all the skill points, all the mages guild and fighters guild ranks, all the wayshrine unlocks... and the easiest way to get all that is just quest and pick it up en passant. Tho I guess I generally create them to test out some build, see what it can do and so on, so... I follow that purpose.

I suppose I also don't rush it, that way I always have characters with questling left to do and don't get over-satiated on some storiey by doing them too often in too short a time...

5 of my 7 characters have done/are doing their alliances story and the main story and the plan is that they will eventually go on to do almost everything else as well.

Number 6 is my crafter who did part of the main story to get some skill points (and may finish it one day if I need more) and now pretty much stays in town crafting or goes to pick up crafting surveys or visit set crafting stations.

Number 7 is my 'evil' character who was created mainly to get the vampirism dyes, do the thieves guild and dark brotherhood stories so I could decide which of my other characters will do them, steal and murder for profit and achievements and just generally to do things where I want to try obviously terrible options none of my other characters are terrible or stupid enough to pick. So he does certain quests where I get curious about the other options, but is highly unlikely to do all of them.

I do all the main questline up to the point you enter Coldharbour. This is mostly done just to keep the prophet from stalking me 24/7 and getting in my way.

This is also why I finish the mage's guild quest as soon as possible, and let the "Introduction to Orsinium" quest sit in my queue from day one so Stuga will leave me the heck alone!

But I dare to say more: if I could have the option to get insta skill lines like mages guild or have my char right to level 50 I WOULD do it without hesitation.

Always do, my characters are former street rat types in abahs landing, so when they appear in Morrowind everything from that point onwards becomes a flashback, how they got there kind of thing. First is thieves guild, expanding into mercinary work with the fighters and mages guilds whose quests you can start in abahs landing by talking to none quest npcs. Then on to the dark brotherhood as their bitterness against an unjust world gathers strength. The prophet and elements from the dark brotherhood quest helps them turn the corner, from then on it’s their mission to save this screwed up world whether it likes it or not. Main quests and so on work much better with that longer run up as your charecters are already experienced before they start it.

Besides, I can’t be bothered to grind... just the thought of all those dolmens... also the fact that they give so little xp, good greif, I can get more xp questing than doing alakir dolmens, just kill all the mobs you encounter and you’ll be comfortably ahead. If there are thirty players at that dolmen the xp is spread as thin as white tea, all my kills are mine...
