Rereading books

Is it possible to read any books our character has already discovered? Often times in the middle of a quest where they’re found isn’t the best place to read them what with enemies respawning and everything. the ones needed to level up mages guild and motifs are also only one per character so if you want to read them again you either reroll or have to look them up online which takes you out of the game.

I think that's the point of Eidetic Memory, a reward for finishing the Mage's Guild quest line.

But I haven't actually made use of it.

They're in your lore library. press J and browse to your heart's content. In a safe location of course. :p

I suggest advancing in the mage's storyline :)
When you complete the mage's guild quest line you earn a special ability that will do just that ;)

I recommend completing the Mages Guild quest line.

If you already have completed it, look under Eidectic Memory in your Journal.

For some reason the devs thought to put even multipage notes or books just next to very fast spawning enemies, so that you get interrupted at least 1-4 times while trying to read it. The eidetic memory is not available before you completed the entire mage questline, so that doesn't exactly help unless you already did that (but if you don't want to do that now, but want to wait with the mages questline?). Meaning you are forced to stand there, getting interrupted constantly if you actually want to read these notes. But even WITH the eidetic memory it's not exactly easy to find the correct note or book in the library that match said note/book, and in the end it's less trouble to simply stand in the spawn point getting interrupted.

Reading books and notes in dungeons used to be a favourite passtime in previous elder scrolls games. But then I took a delve boss to the knee. 4 times.

You unlock the eiditic memory and the motif reread function once you progress far enough into the mages guild. Don't remember if complete or only to a certain point but it is still pretty far in. There is the shalidor's library section which is readable by all if discovering each one.

On PC the Lore Books add-on allows you to enable the Eidetic Memory before you even begin the MG quest line. Just grab it and read it later.

Cool. But unfortunately the notes and books tied to the delves are, at least to me, not really very relevant after exiting the delve. It's a part of the story and atmosphere of that delve, so it adds to the experience when you're down there. Afterwards it's a different experience, it's more like an actual memory "oh yeah I remember that delve it was so great, haha, and then the khajit thief thought he'd won, but then really he was screwed. heh.". Which of course also has some value.

I suppose it in the end comes down to whether you ae seriously role-playing or just chasing achievements. Personally, I prefer to clear a map completely so that I don't have to come back there and to stuff to make it all white.
