You see, when the game started, they said that every piece of new content, all DLC´s would be available for free to suscribers, i.e., those with ESO plus. But last year they released Morrowind, labelling it "chapter", stating that chapters would not be included in ESO plus, forcing subscribers to buy the so called "chapter" if they wanted to enjoy some new content. It probably was economically profitable to them, because that is the new game model we have, 3 DLC´s a year and one "chapter" or expansion, wich is nothing more than an overglorified DLC that has to be bought even by subscribers.

Since you need to download it, it would go as "downloadable" content. But Zo$ once agreed ESO+ members would get all DLC for free so they needed to find a new name for the cow, hence "Chapter" so they can milk your bucks.

It's like a difference between the WoW expansion and a content update. Can't blame ZOS for charging us for it! ESO+ is very reasonably priced and if you can take a break from it without being left with no access to the game. This is business at the end of the day. You make new content, you want to be paid for it. Simples.

Minor point: when the game started it was pay-to-play and you had to sub to play at all. The DLC thing wasn't until after consoles got the game.

Also they've since decided to split up the Morrowind 'Chapter' and either merge the pieces into the base game (Battlegrounds) or sell them as normal DLC/upgrades available on the Crown Store as usual. Still too early to tell if they're going to do the same with Summerset next year.

I buy dlc and 'chapters' because the content is worth the price to me, and I'm at a point in life where $30-40 isn't something to fret about. That said, it is true imho that zos is playing semantic games to weasel out of their promise. I'm not happy about that, but I've accepted it and moved on with my life.

I don't think that's the reason... Isn't there a completely new skill line?? DLC is NOT the reason I subscribe... Being able to support a fun past-time and giving it constructive feedback which I have seen the results of is a big reason I subscribe...

Word. Other People go partying on weekends and wasting a shtload of money and others spent some money on a game they play on daily basis. Bascially investing in a hobby, it's not like you're forced to buy anything.

I can think of other, better definitions...
Chapters provide subscribers the opportunity to further support ZOS instead of just buying scammy Crown crates that people complain about... Since ESO+ members have access to all the DLC how else can they support the hobby they enjoy and still provide excellent content for all the filthy freeloaders??

Normal Crown Store purchases - mounts, costumes, hairstyles, etc.

Chapters are always going to be "Expansions", because they're considered separate from the DLC content packs such as Dungeons or Hew's Bane/Gold Coast.

Dlc is dlc, aka small updates.

Chapter is the name of there expansion. Not all MMO use "expansion" to title them.

In the case "chapter" fit ESO nicely.

All MMO do expansion packs which to the young, are just larger dlc.

Have you played MMO outside of ESO?

sounds like you don't. All MMO to expansion packs that move the game forward. They are bigger updates to the game thart typically add new jobs and/or new race. Large explorable areas.

Morrowind is ESO first expac. Summerset is the next expac. The dlc are just paid updates for non subs. (like pay to play mmo)

the reason the dlc is free for subs, is the sub cost covers the dlc cost. The dlc is just updates ti the game which are smaller in scope, like the possibility of a small zone addition.

Id suggest looking how MMO work before complaining.

It´s not about how MMO´s work. It´s about what was stated by ZOS. They said "access to all new future content". Then, only then, they decided to add "expansions". That´s the worthiness of their word.

The thing is, expansions in almost every other MMORPG are really expansions with several new zones, dungeons and mechanics.

Expansions (aka Chapters) in ESO are DLCs that are a little bit bigger than the usual DLC but cost as much as a real expansion. Chapters don't even offer new dungeons. They're just a zone + a negligible trial for $30-40. In other MMORPGs you get 5 zones, 10 dungeons and a bunch of "trials" (raids) for the same price.

I do believe $40 for a chapter ,play it for a year before it goes into the crown store you are getting your monies worth :) I have gotten a ton of enjoyment out of Morrowind and will get the same out of Summerset.
