Getting aggro on sorcerer using Shock Staff?

Hi. I'm using Julianos with Divines and Training and a Julianos Shock staff and the Alcast Magicka Sorc Pet build. I keep getting massive aggro in groups. I thought it was Blockade, so I took it out and put Frags on, but I still get aggro. I don't pull until the tank is set up. My toon only has 275 CP. I do have the Vamp Ultimate on the front bar. Any help or a different build would be appreciated.

its not your fault then. mostly the guys with a lot of damage pull aggro automatically, if there is no one taunting. i just can assume stuff here, but if you get aggro in group fights even after the tank started the fight, then he isnt taunting the adds. there is no other explanation, than that the tank is slacking with taunting stuff, since there is no ability on your bar, which would overwrite a taunt (not even blockade or bat swarm).

Anything that isn’t actively taunted does an “aggro check” every 5-7 seconds iirc. There’s a whole thread on the forums detailing the research for this, but basically enemies can cycle through targets pretty quickly and it’s seemingly based on whichever player either damaged or healed in a certain proximity to them whenever their aggro check happens. Sorcs have a lot of aoe damage ticking every second, so it’d make sense if you’re frequently becoming the candidate to receive aggro from untaunted monsters at aggro checks. It’s nothing you or the tank is doing wrong, just the game’s mechanics. As long as the tank is holding taunt on dangerous enemies, it shouldn’t matter too much that you draw aggro. The tank can snare/immobilize enemies so that they stay in place even if they’re angry at you and die to the group’s aoe’s, but like said, what you’re describing doesn’t sound out of the ordinary.

Edit: to make an example of how I understand the system to work: you let tank go in and set up on a group of 15 enemies. He throws out aoe and grabs everything's initial aggro. As you come in and start dealing damage, the tank actively taunts a handful of the enemies. He’d have time to taunt probably 4-5 of them before the aggro check starts occurring. You’ve got your damage ticking in proximity to them, so the remaining 10-11 have a fair chance of getting aggroed on you. Any of those 10-11 will attack the tank instead as he continues to taunt them, but until a taunt is placed on them, you’re just as viable a target for their aggro as the tank, other dps, healer, etc. at each aggro check.

Your pets are basically hurling insults at the mobs before you are ready for battle, so there is that too.

However the Tank's Taunt should override a Damage Taunt. Then again, the Tank can't Taunt everything in the room either.

But it does help to not just wait until the tank pulls, but wait until the tank pulls and has the mobs aggro'd. I have been a lot of PUGs where I go into to get all the mobs rounded up and before I can get the second or third one occupied the DPS are doing damage. If they could just wait a few seconds I can get all the mobs in a nice group and make it easier to wail on them en-mass.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

The tank should be tanking the boss and heavy hitting adds. As long as that is happening, its normal for DDs to get aggro from mobs, especially if you hit them first. If you have a ton of AOEs, you're likely to get their attention once they drop aggro on their first target. Heals work on the same principle, so a healer with constant uptime on heals also pulls a lot of aggro.

If the boss is consistently aggroed on you, and it doesn't sound like you are using a taunt, you probably have a fake tank.

    1) tanks should be only with aggro

    2) Are you running ahead of tank?
