Does anyone else think this would be a good feature?
or does being forced to use 2 weapons feel ok?
and by forced i mean at this point in the game just using a single 1 handed weapon doesnt work well.

Gameplay-wise it would be great to have more weapons to choose: one-handed, polearms, crossbows, some alternative for destruction staves, etc. But, well, there are also other things, which this game lacks.

Because the things we need outweigh the things we want. And one handed has been discussed before.

but you act as if one has to out weigh the other>? they have people they pay that can do both

to be honest i want a rune weapon where it has several different choices in weapons from which type of run you have or what combination you choose of weapons.

Honestly, they should add a 'gauntlet' type weapon to the game. They could use it for Brawling or Pugilism or something, but, could also handle the 'must have both hands occupied' type problem in the game, as you could put a sword in one hand, and a gauntlet on the other. In addition, they could have stamina gauntlets (for punching) and magicka gauntlets (for casting spells from each Destro line or from Resto). Just my thoughts.

The thing is, historically using only one of your hands in a fight for your life was not really a thing in medieval times. That only became a thing when swords became less important through the advance of black powder weapons... and thus fencing became more of a "honorable sport" (ranging from simple contest of skills fencing with blunted blades and paddes suits to full out honot duels to the death) then a wartime art...

In the time periods equivalent to ESOs scenery, fighting one-handed usually was a sign you had been caught ill prepared - a boble caught in a fight when just out for a pleasant little ride, an archer who let a enemy infantrist get too close, etc.

People knowing to expect a fight tended to do -something- with their offnagd. Grab a shield for better protection. Grab a two-hander for more striking power. Grab a dagger for offhand attacks. Grab a throwing knife for a bit of ranged opening shot.

Only those who needed their offhand for something else only came with a sword; like for exampla sailors who may have to want to hold on to the rigging as to not go overbuard too easily. And even those tended to bring their shields when making landfall (just ask any viking!)

As I said, keeping your offhand free did not really become a thing until the times of the musketeers, and even those fencers liked to draw a main-gauche or wrap their cloak around their offhand as makeshift shield when a fight got serious...

You are not -forced- to use two weapons.
You can also use a two-handed weapon, or a weapon and a shield... :p;)

But, it -would- be nice to have -more- options... like being able to use swords and throwing weapons, or axes and some offhand magic... which is of course why I dream up skill lines for just that: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/371862/additional-weapon-skill-ideas-mk-ii (among other things ;) )
And it ought to be quite possible to equip an one handed weapon and, say, some tiny throwing stars, and never use the throwing star skills if someone really, really, really wants that...

Gauntlets are already armor pieces. But... brass knuckles, cesti, punch daggers, etc. See my ideas on that in the abovementioned discussion ;)

If your put off by the unfeasibly large two handed models try the dread horn sword. It'd relatively short in comparison (blade reaches your hip rather than your knees when stowed on the back).

But, see, that is where TES is different... They aren't leaving one hand 'empty'. In TES, using a weapon in one hand means you can use the other hand for spells. ESO is completely non-lore friendly in this respect, because they go the 'generic fantasy BS' route of having to use a staff to cast the spells that in TES one could do with their hands alone. This is why there are builds that are spell in one hand, shield in the other; different spells in each hand; one-handed weapon and spell... Cannot bring up the real world and its tactics because, well, we never had magic lol

Exactly. Having a hand free and dedicated to spells is a very elder scrolls'ish thing.

...and that is why I have a "one-handed and magic" skill line among my weapons ideas! ;) And another to dual wield those offhand magic items as well.
    Because...

    ...I agree with this one!

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic!
I see little difference between "magic" and "guns" in that regard... who cares if it shoots a fireball, or a lead bullet? its a ranged attack with a bit of bang... close enough for comparison I say!

So my comments stand, just look at the historical weapons configurations including guns as substitute for magic. Whoch actually is the point at where people left their offhand free to grab a flintlock to shoot someone, then perhaps grab another, ur use the spent bun as makeshift bludgeon... but that does not make it an "one-handed fighting style", since they -are- doing something with their offhand right? ;)

That brings us to... two-handed guns aka rifles as staff (or spell focus) equivalent, dual wielding a one-handed weapon and a gun (pirate style!) which made me think up my "one-handed and magic" idea and dual-wielding guns (which may not be great on the accuracy, according to those who would know, but has other advantages like improved rate of fire I suppose...) spawning my "twin magic" idea...

And all those ideas would be entirely doable within the scope of the ESO game mechanics! Just add am "runestone " or "wand" magic weapon (there could even be both, with differences... like, runestones get a bonuis to damage, and wands a bonus to range, and let people choose their weapons as they wish)

Yes, standard was shield and a ax or sword, then as you got plate armor you was well protected but you needed an two hand weapon to do damage to others in plate, war axes and halberds and stuff.
Sword become more of an side arm and they also become cheap enough to replace daggers for civilian weapons.
For civilians you did not want to drag an sword around but you still had your knife.
With gunpowder, armor become less important so light swords become more useful again, you still just had one or perhaps two shots.

See the classical pirate with an single shot pistol and a sword.
Now for elder scroll magic+ an single handed weapon would make lots of sense the same way, you use magic for long range or to weaken enemies then the weapons to finish them off, the weapon does more damage but has short range.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    Necro thread! Hey! ...howya been?

    YES!?!
I still want Wand & Rune options for one handed fighting...
some magical psjiic/stargate looking hand piece over my glove would be AMAZING

but! lately for fun I adjusted my one Templar bar for a single dagger (no weapon skills basically)
    SO MUCH FUN!

& if she gets in serious trouble I still have my Destro Staff waiting
