but why bring up there are other things? this thread is about 1 handed weapons skill line or even the other weapon skill lines you mentioned would be welcome

Because the things we need outweigh the things we want. And one handed has been discussed before.
Does anyone else think this would be a good feature?
or does being forced to use 2 weapons feel ok?
and by forced i mean at this point in the game just using a single 1 handed weapon doesnt work well.
The thing is, historically using only one of your hands in a fight for your life was not really a thing in medieval times. That only became a thing when swords became less important through the advance of black powder weapons... and thus fencing became more of a "honorable sport" (ranging from simple contest of skills fencing with blunted blades and paddes suits to full out honot duels to the death) then a wartime art...1 handed weapon skill line
You are not -forced- to use two weapons.or does being forced to use 2 weapons feel ok?
Gauntlets are already armor pieces. But... brass knuckles, cesti, punch daggers, etc. See my ideas on that in the abovementioned discussionHonestly, they should add a 'gauntlet' type weapon to the game. They could use it for Brawling or Pugilism or something...

Only those who needed their offhand for something else only came with a sword; like for exampla sailors who may have to want to hold on to the rigging as to not go overbuard too easily. And even those tended to bring their shields when making landfall (just ask any viking!)

But, see, that is where TES is different... They aren't leaving one hand 'empty'. In TES, using a weapon in one hand means you can use the other hand for spells. ESO is completely non-lore friendly in this respect, because they go the 'generic fantasy BS' route of having to use a staff to cast the spells that in TES one could do with their hands alone. This is why there are builds that are spell in one hand, shield in the other; different spells in each hand; one-handed weapon and spell... Cannot bring up the real world and its tactics because, well, we never had magic lol
...and that is why I have a "one-handed and magic" skill line among my weapons ideas! And another to dual wield those offhand magic items as well. But, see, that is where TES is different... ...I agree with this one!Exactly. Having a hand free and dedicated to spells is a very elder scrolls'ish thing.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic!Cannot bring up the real world and its tactics because, well, we never had magic...
Yes, standard was shield and a ax or sword, then as you got plate armor you was well protected but you needed an two hand weapon to do damage to others in plate, war axes and halberds and stuff.TheShadowScout wrote: »The thing is, historically using only one of your hands in a fight for your life was not really a thing in medieval times. People knowing to expect a fight tended to do -something- with their offnagd. Grab a shield for better protection. Grab a two-hander for more striking power. Grab a dagger for offhand attacks. Grab a throwing knife for a bit of ranged opening shot.
Only those who needed their offhand for something else only came with a sword; like for exampla sailors who may have to want to hold on to the rigging as to not go overbuard too easily. And even those tended to bring their shields when making landfall (just ask any viking!)
As I said, keeping your offhand free did not really become a thing until the times of the musketeers, and even those fencers liked to draw a main-gauche or wrap their cloak around their offhand as makeshift shield when a fight got serious...You are not -forced- to use two weapons.or does being forced to use 2 weapons feel ok?
You can also use a two-handed weapon, or a weapon and a shield...
But, it -would- be nice to have -more- options... like being able to use swords and throwing weapons, or axes and some offhand magic... which is of course why I dream up skill lines for just that: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/371862/additional-weapon-skill-ideas-mk-ii (among other things )
And it ought to be quite possible to equip an one handed weapon and, say, some tiny throwing stars, and never use the throwing star skills if someone really, really, really wants that...Gauntlets are already armor pieces.
