I get fed up with MMOs when they get what I consider to be the video game equivalent of 'lore locked' which shows like star trek start to suffer from after a while- your constantly asked to come up with something new but you can't undo anything from the past.
MMOs solve this by just constantly inventing new planes or continents to fight on and basically replay the same battle with a different skin and different specs. This might be appealing to some, but I find it dull and tiresome. Old sets & zones that used to have a lot of character and interest are replaced by new expensive shiny ones that feel like unimaginative clones but just happen to have better stats. But at the same time I understand the need to release new content that gives players an incentive to purchase game content, in addition to releasing new material for them to play through.
so my solution is this: Don't release full blown new content unless you think it really contributes something to the overall game as a whole. Instead, just admit you are pay to win and let players pay to buy higher tier versions of the old sets and skills - same content but better stats. Release genuinely new content when you actually have something that actually improves the game as a whole. That way at least we can at least retain the game's quality of character, even as we let you scoop out our guts to feed to your children. Lol that is a joke. I don't hate you.
