Crown Store - Forum QQ meltdown

I'm sorry and please forgive my ignorance, but why so much QQ on the forums over the crown store?

I've not been back in game long and don't intend on using the GG store but what is available in the Crown Store that's causing so many cries and utter meltdown all over the forums?

Is it just cosmetics or are we talking game changing items and boosts?

Because its all about a cash grab now mostly, can't earn anything in game like in other MMO's

Because it is going in the wrong direction (cost increase, less discount on crown purchase, new features prices are crazy for instance outfit slot, some things are hidden behind loot box)

Let me see if I can help. Some people feel differently then you do. Still confused? Ok. Some people wouldn’t care if they did sell game changing items and boost in the store as long as the cosmetics could be earned in game. So to sum up. Different People feel different about different things.

i feel like there are three major concerns about the crownstore:
-1: the prices for cetrain things is horrendous (i.e. costumeslot)
-2: the constant pushing the crownstore into the players head (pop-up after logging in/while logging out)
-3: the RNG and the fact that certrain things cant even be bought by the crowngems (i.e. Apexmounts)

As far as my opinion goes: there are no game changing Items available in the store, and the boosts are, well, just boosts.

Now the mounts aspect, yeah I think that would be a good addition to the game. Have some complex quests that would, in the end, result in mounts but you know that then folk would complain that they don't like (wherever critter the mount is) and we'd see them hollering about that. The "earn mounts" thing worked pretty well back in the day when it was either the only way to get a mount or to avoid spending heaps of in-game gold.

I am utterly gob-smacked.

Some of the ESO players need to go play some of the other MMOs using GG systems especially the Korean ones where its total P2W and your characters levelling speed, abilities and stats can be directly influenced and bought via the in game gold store. Heck I remember playing PWO where you could buy Dragon Orbs to refine your equipment and people were spending thousands of £££'s just to have an OPed character, or buying Nix feathers from random crates so you could have a PvP pet that 1 hit everyone.


If its totally cosmetic people need to get a bloody grip, your gaming experience does not change or diminish due to not having a specific cosmetic item.

Most of the fuss seems to be over the crates and pricing. People are concerned that "hiding" good things in the crates (almost always a fancy mount) causes everyone to lose their pea-pickin' minds and spend the rent money (yes, yes, I know that there have been some cases where that has happened) trying to get those oh-so-cool mounts.

IE: Every other online game that lets you actually earn cosmetics and content while "Playing" the game what it was meant to be for.

Yeah. Its a bunch of people attempting to shove their over-the-top morale agendas of whether the community is responsible for the individuals decision to "gamble" their money away onto everyone. (Note: I don't believe crown crates are gambling.)

I'm a strong believer in not being responsible for the decisions or actions involving financial decisions of others.

I can manage my urges and spend responsibly. I also don't NEED to have items in the crown store, so if I feel the price has increased, I just don't buy it. I speak with my money - not by attempting to shame people who make a personal decision to spend THEIR money on something THEY feel is worth it.

It's mainly people complaining about something, but doing nothing to change what they are complaining about beyond complaining. The truly prestigious items are "earned" in game (either by meeting certain trial/dungeon achievements or a carry for the same).

Some boycott the crates, which I endorse as a means to make a point to the seller. There doesn't seem to be any effort beyond that, though.

It does if you like cosmetic items and like to collect them. Now my game play doesn’t change if Larry can buy level 900cp character in the store or Jill can purchase a 1 shot kill bow. My game play doesn’t change then. So I guess we should be able to buy those as well.

Last time I checked, there were tons of cosmetics you could earn in game and they even give away cash ones from time to time for free. Oh wait, are you saying you want ALL cosmetics obtainable in game? From a marketing perspective, I think that's a great idea. Because its a huge vast, awesome game with plenty to do if you don't focus on the shiny things you don't actually need.

And if its want, well buy them. Just know that that's going to cost you.

Not every cosmetic but most of it, like Swtor still has a cross balance between in game cosmetics and then the real $ ones, but on the other hand they people purchase the online ones and sell them in game which ZoS does not allow. Even older games like Lotro has more in game cosmetics you can earn while playing the game than ones you can just buy with cash. Same thing with WoW, more cosmetics in game than on cash shop.

Easily answered. Why bother? Because I enjoy it as part of the whole experience. I could as easily say "why bother with leaderboards" or "why bother with PvP" but I don't because I understand that others find that enjoyable and/or gratifying.

I mean I guess, but you can farm a lot of the cosmetics in game as well, as far as motifs. I think they should do more events like the anniversary event, but just make them monthly - where if you do <X> activity, you have a chance of getting <x> crown crate item. The new log in reward system might be interesting too.

Absolutely! And I support them being able too just as I support other options for different playstyles.

If everything that was in the Crown Crates was available in the Crown Store, I'd have much less problems with it. But I don't like the idea of buying a chance at what I want to get so I don't buy Crown Crates.

Currently, much of the QQ is people pointing out that the gifting system lacks safeguards for the inevitable trades that are going to happen and that the crown sale was only 20% when it has been 50% in the past.

I mean I guess, but you can farm a lot of the cosmetics in game as well, as far as motifs. I think they should do more events like the anniversary event, but just make them monthly - where if you do <X> activity, you have a chance of getting <x> crown crate item. The new log in reward system might be interesting too.

Needs to be more mounts, costumes, pets you can earn in game rather than spending actual $ on all the time, even if they're slightly different in game like color schemed or a different name something to atleast earn while playing the game, motifs i can see yes but other things like the ones i described no.

Yeah. Its a bunch of people attempting to shove their over-the-top morale agendas of whether the community is responsible for the individuals decision to gamble their money away onto everyone.

I'm a strong believer in not being responsible for the decisions or actions involving financial decisions of others.

I can manage my urges and spend responsibly. I also don't NEED to have items in the crown store, so if I feel the price has increased, I just don't buy it. I speak with my money - not by attempting to shame people who make a personal decision to spend THEIR money on something THEY feel is worth it.

I'm not shaming anyone just saying that things need to change because why bother playing the game when more than 99% of the cosmetics are on a transactional cash shop rather than rewards in game

Because its a huge vast, awesome game with plenty to do if you don't focus on the shiny things you don't actually need.

And if its want, well buy them. Just know that that's going to cost you.

Nothing in the game is a need. It’s a game. It is a want by definition. So I’m assuming you would be ok with them selling a top level of gear in the crown store. After all the game isn’t balanced it you could still complete all the content. And the game itself is a want, you wouldn’t need the gear for anything. You could even do well in pvp if your skills were up to snuff and you were careful about who you attacked. Just don’t focus on the fact that someone paid money just to be a little better then you. You don’t actually need them.

And if you want it, just know it is going to cost you.

Cant wait to see how people will react when someone will be able to learn all jewelery traits in 1 day by spending over 40k crowns on research scrolls when others will have to do it in over 3 months

Some people like the store, others don't. Personally, I'm cool with everything in there currently. I may disagree with some of the pricing, but that will vary from person to person. What I'll never be ok with is ZOS not disclosing odds on their crates. If I'm throwing real money at RNG, I want to know what the RNG is. Again, some people don't mind, but that's what I have an issue with.
