Give Merchants a rotating inventory worthy of purchase, so players would do more than just sell.

When's the last time anyone shelled out 1500 gold for a white quality Battleaxe with zero enchantments and no trait? This may be the only game I've ever played where there is basically no reason to buy anything from a vendor.

Give merchants some inventory items worthy of purchase?

They did it with Fallout. Heck, they do it with housing vendors.

Inventory options could vary by location and timeframe, but when accessing a merchant, you'd actually find things of interest to buy.

There would be reason to check various vendors in different locations. The 'spawn' could even vary, similar to M'aiq the Liar type events, etc.

As it stands, they're little more than glorified pawn brokers, unless you need the odd occasional lockpick.

In all my years playing this game, all i have ever purchased from a vendor in game has been 3 types of style mats. Breton mats because I use a lot doing writs, bosmer for dps dummies and dunmer for gold furniture to sell. That's it. Vendors are only useful for repairs and selling.

I like the “spawn” idea for adding some spice to their inventories. It could be a new rotating vendor like you suggested. Or maybe there could be a rare chance that a blacksmith/armorer NPC would offer for a limited time pieces of the correlating zone heavy set?

Likewise a clothier might offer light or medium set pieces for their zone. Just throwing out an idea because I agree with you, the NPC vendors in this game are very plain.

Maybe they serve their purpose for those playing solo?

I remember buying on of the Random Crates from a vendor and being totally underwhelmed by what I got. But other than a few lockpicks here and there for new characters, I have not purchased anything from Vendors. Wait, I have bought Potencies for low end Writs, as those are super cheap.

I do understand the reason for making things expensive from the Vendors, it encourages Crafting and Trading with other Players as that is much cheaper and sometimes more convenient.

I am a big fan of this idea!
Vendors could sell the dropped gear for that zone.
Maybe even a Monster set piece for the zone’s dungeon.
Also, they could sell a variety of the furnishing plans.

Vendors should sell tempering alloys, wax, etc for high prices.

Even when I was new to the game I never bought anything from vendors...even if I needed a piece of garbage gear, it was just too expensive.

Like what, honestly? Items are neither enchanted nor traited, and you can accidentally find better gear simply after killing a handful of mobs?

Lockpicks, starting soul gems, simple bait, and possibly repair kits (which most new players aren't using anyway, esp when there's a repair option from the vendor directly).

I don't even thing the styles vary from zone to zone, for decon style mats (which are obtainable directly for base styles).

Right, I'm thinking specifically armorers and weapons vendors.

The remaining vendors at least offer semi-useful items relative to their specialty.

I wouldn't expect them to be an exclusive source, by any means. But right now, the 'Buy' tab may as well not even exist on most of them.

At least the vendors in the standalone games could offer up quest locations or unlock points of interest...something?

I'd be down with a regional set vendor being placed in each zone. I'd also be fine with merchants that sold refined mats for players to use (not 100% sold on upgrade mats though). Same with a merchant that sells patterns and furniture native to that region.

Might hurt some aspects of the game if they get implemented though, namely the market for these items so it would need to be limited to a similar vein as the Golden and Luxury Furniture vendors but I suppose that's fine.
