No need to worry about AD zone. Once you pass the last AD keep you are safe. No one will check along coasts to see any DC/EP fishing. Fishing in cyro was easy for me never got ganked and in imperial city I only ganked once, also a decent enemy player saw me fishing in imp city and joined me fishing till I cleared the hole and left without attacking me.

You were lucky. I've done Cyrodiil and IC fishing on 5 characters (don't ask why *shrug*) and been attacked in both places on all of them more than once

Bedsides some achievements, what functions do the rare fish enable?

Such as can you mount them as trophies for home?

Actually you can stealth while fishing if you time it right. You get revealed when you cast and reel in but can be invisible while waiting for a bite.

sadly just the achievements.... area angler and eventually master.

it would be good if we could mount them as trophies though

When I did mine I usually did it at night about an hour before bed . Also , putting on a Netflix show or talking in a guild chat helped pass time as well .

I also really liked the idea of having your child fish for you if you have one . You just have to be careful . If you think you can spend your gold fast let a child borrow your controller for a bit unsupervised.

And booze.

I finally got the Ash shad blue river fish from stonefalls today. I had 2 other randoms join me and I got it within 4 holes drying up.
Seems fishing in a group really does help so much.

The other end game activity you might not have noticed exists is Eidetic Memory hunting.

Also, do you have the explorer/Hero of Tamriel/Savior Of Nirn achieves yet? Typically, I would drop into Shor to do those on a weekday morning when its really nice and very quiet.

But Eidetic Memory hunting is an adventure all by itself. There are some 3000 books/notes in game and they are everywhere.

Yeah I have been tamriel hero for a long time, that is why fishing is on my aggenda now. Cyrodiil quests and getting the skyshards was the last I did of all that. I went in late at night and did all the quests and just checked periodically for the gates to be open to get the skyshards. I did all the dolmens in cyrodiil solo.
PvP, vet trials achievements, housing, a few DLC dungeon achievements and a few DLC dalies is all I have left to do.
If it gets to the point that eidemic memory is on my list of things to do I might just quit. I'm more into just getting the in game achievements. that is unless they add an achievement for eidemic memory.
I have done every quest in the game, to my knowledge. I don't see any markers anwhere, though there may be a few hidden ones I haven't found.

Bring a Yellow to be look out. Make sure your AD look out could be trusted.

I exercise while I fish. I walk on my treadmill while my character is walking between holes and jog while actively fishing. The exercise distracts me from fishing and the fishing distracts me from exercise! It's win-win (and hopefully lose-lose for calories and waist size).

Just pick a low population non-CP campaign, as a guest if necessary, and pick a quiet time. I'm DC and when I did it I saw hardly any AD players (if they gallop straight down the hill from their gate then they don't look your way anyway). Only once did a pair of AD spot me but I ignored them and kept fishing. They paused then moved on.

I didn't't see any mention of this yet skimming this post. For master angler, aside from 1 blue fish at each of the first 3 starter islands, all 17 zones have 12 rare fishes, 2 green and 1 blue for each type of water. But if a zone has less than 4 fishing holes for a type of water, the blue and greens of that type are divided among the other water types. In Auridon I believe you are catching two blues from the ocean for example. Bangkorai you can catch foul water rares from the handfull of spots of that type even though they also drop in the other water types, but Deshaan's three foul water spots do not give any rares.

In Cyrodiil, you can be in stealth while you sit there with your line in the water. All in all, you will pull in 5,000-7,000 regular fish earning this achievement.

did not know that about the fish being different, I thought there were just 2 green, 1 blue per type of water.
Anyway i am following an online map so as i go through zones I will be ticking off the ones from each water.

Floppy's right. fishing in-game is just like fishing in real life; the fish can tell if you haven't had enough beer yet.

one thing i heard, from a guy on my server who's big on fishing, was pretty interesting. you know how sometimes you'll be in a group, maybe doing dailies, and people are saying this is their last dungeon of the night and then they're signing off for bed or whatever? he'll ask them not to leave the group before signing off, so that he's got their offline bars up in the corner, and he gets some solo fishing done then. he's pretty darn sure that while doing this, he pulls rare fish far more often.

see, i thought the "fishing in a group" thing was related to how many folks had hooks in the water at any given time. i was once walking through Glenumbra, just south of that werewolf field, and came across a few gentlemen with their poles out. i cast a line on a whim, and ended up pulling all 3 rares (2 green 1 blue) in 4 casts, finishing Glenumbra river fish just like that.

i think what's more important is that the fishing is just dominated by randomness, so whatever superstition you subscribe to is probably just as good as any other, which is a good reason to make sure you pick a fun one. like, my priest will do the Kneel Praying emote before the hole when it's appropriate, and then again before cleaning his white catches. another thing to keep in mind is that very many aspects of fishing lend themselves to endless middle-school innuendo, which makes it more fun to do in groups.

When we were getting our master angler achievements we made it a guild event and everybody got into teamspeak. That made the fishing a lot more fun.
