I assume it's just pure RNG? I get pages all the time. Often at times I'll find a blue book, very, VERY randomly, I will find a purple book (of course not of what I actually want).

I seem to find motifs pages and the occasional books in Backpacks. Is there specific containers that they can be found in, so I know what to look in as to narrowing down my search, or is there just a random chance they can be found in literally any type of container, anywhere?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I seem to have horrible RNG. My cousin, who I group with a lot, always has a new style learned, and I ask him how he learned it, he always tells me, "I just found the book" like it was no problem. He has even found the Buoyant Armiger motif book and acted like it was no big deal, and from what I read, that's the most sought after motif in the game currently, am I right?

I think it's pure RNG, and if you don't give it special personal favors, if you know what I mean, it ignores you. You see someone the RNG likes, you know they hadda do something degrading. That's my theory, anyway, and I refuse to be talked out of it.

I must have done something to *** off RNGesus, or something, but my luck is pure crap. It started with Destiny 2, to the point I just gave up with the game. But for some reason, my terrible RNG luck has followed me back to ESO.

I spend extra time wherever I am in game, searching every container I find for a chance to find a gold book, or a purple book of a style that I actually want and care about. I get nothing.

My cousin on the other hand, finds everything. But then again, he is only in school part time and has almost every hour of every day to play games. I work on the other hand, and play a few hours each night and a couple hours each day over the weekend.

By my calculations, I may find a gold book by the end of 2020.

Some people are just luck magnets, and some are just the opposite. It's become a running joke between my best friend and me to open our crown crates together and watch what crap I get and then watch her get a motif or apex mount a second later. Maybe it's pheromones. Digital pheromones. I still think the RNG is some sort of demon, or I guess in this game, a daedric prince.

I have to agree with you there, has to be a demon or deadric prince. Because my RNG luck is straight dumpster juice. I could spend $100 on crown crates and can get every poison and potion there is, my cousin could spend $15 on crown crates and get multiple mounts, good scrolls and pets, etc...

I play ESO since the early access and I found only ONE gold book so far (Imperial Motif). But I'm quite lucky in all other RNG influenced cases, so I won't complain.

If you would, shed some of your luck unto me lol Hopefully one of these days I'll find a gold book, or at least a purple book of a style I actually like.

I find pages of motifs that I like, but I will occasionally find a book of a motif I don't like :(

The only gold motif book I've ever found in my 4 years of playing is the Imperial motif, which I've found multiple times.

There are only 5 purple motif books (daedric, ancient elf, barbaric, primal, mercenary) as far as I know. I've looted the first four many times, and they are quite common. The mercenary one I've seen at guild traders.

All of the other motifs that drop in pages have a rare chance to drop the full gold book. I've never gotten any of those, and I don't shop for them at guild traders, since I usually end up getting a number of pages from gameplay, so I'm always just shopping for the pages I'm missing.

I don't think there are full books for the PvP motifs that you purchase with AP - I think those only come in pages? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Also, the ebony motif purchasable from Rolis comes in pages or the full book and the glass motif is now a full book only purchasable from Rolis and no longer drops from crafting writs as fragments to be glued into a page.

I do recall seeing a Hollowjack motif book, so the holiday motifs also drop in books as well as pages.

TL:DR - the full gold books are EXTREMELY RARE. Your cousin has been EXTREMELY LUCKY.

There is a full book for Akaviri, but as far as I know it's a bound item from crates/gems. I'm sitting on one in the bank from my last free level up crate, I'll probably convert to gems since my crafter already knows 9/14. I count myself as quite lucky for both that, and pulling the imperial book this past weekend from one of the cases in AA.

    Keep in mind the following:

Full motif books can be (usually) found the same way the respective pages are. For example you can find Minotaur motif pages in Gold Coast daily reward containers, and with an extremely(!) small chance you might find the whole book instead of a single page. When I say extremely small chance, I really mean it. Don’t expect to find an Apostle motif book in a random crate because that’s not where Apostle motif pages drop.

Unless your cousin is the luckiest player in ESO history with the best possible RNG, I doubt he found multiple gold motif books through regular gameplay. Your language and questions lead me to think that you are not a veteran player and are still learning the game. Although I don’t know about your cousin, if you group with him often, he could be around the same level as you(?). Which would make it even less plausible that he found multiple full motif books. Even most of my veteran friends would be extremely happy and enthusiastic if they found one. They really are. That. Rare.

TL;DR - I would say your cousin got the motif books from the Crown Store/Crates.

Yea, I would not classify myself as a veteran player by any means, but my goal is to become one. I mean I have been playing ESO since the day it launched on console, but I have just been playing it like I do any other solo TES game. Only very recently have I been playing the game, smart, I guess you could say? lol

That's why I have so many questions like this. I get such very vague answers from my cousin. He's been playing this game since I have, but has more in depth knowledge than I do when it comes down to how things work, but is snobby when it comes to answering my questions, which is why I come here with my questions.

I know he has found the Buoyant Armiger motif book, because he has felt quite compelled to boast about it. I'm not very knowledgeable which motif books are found in crown crates or not, but I am sure he has gotten some from thee, because he has very good luck when it comes to opening crown crates.

Edit: Oh and as far as level goes, he's about 50 CPs higher than myself. I am cp220-something, he is around cp279.

I have a full gold Akaviri book and it's not bound. I bought it from someons who said it dropped for them from the Anniversary boxes.

I think this might be the rarest gold motif in the game, even beating Buoyant Armiger. But it's hard to put a value on it when very few exist.

TTC has one listed for 1.45mil, but that seems high based on an average per item value of 50K. That would be 700K total for the 14 individual motifs.

This seems cheaper than what I see on Xbox in guild stores. I see single Buoyant Armiger pages go for over 150K. Not sure what the book is going for. Just yesterday, I saw multiple worm cult motif books at a minimum of 2.4 million gold.

Full gold books are insanely rare. I've pulled a few Imperial books over the years, one Abah's Watch and one Hollowjack. I've had a few friends mention that they find them very rarely as well. You are most likely to pull 10 full copies of the 14 pages associated with a motif before even a glimmer of hope of a gold version. It's all RNG though. You might just get a few very quickly or you could go 5 years and never find one.

I was specifically addressing the Gold Akaviri Book pricing from TTC in my earlier post.
On NA PC, the BA motifs are going for 50K after the anniversary event. Completely tanked their value. This is true for almost all the motifs to some degree, including Akaviri and Worm Cult. Although I too have seen the Gold Worm Cult books priced way too high, but I don't know that they are selling at that value.

I mean, that's kind of the story when i found the daedric motif book. Daedric i will always be one of my favorite styles of any armor (fell in love with it in Oblivion)

When I created my MagDK, after starting the game, I was searching through everything I could find, and I was thinking to myself, in my head at the time, that how cool would it be if I found the daedric motif book this early in the game. Well wouldn't you know, after I thought that to myself, the very next container I opened a few seconds later, had the daedric motif book.

So far, that luck hasn't helped me finding a gold book :( But a man can dream lol

There is a reason that Daedric is now worth about 500g and any gold book is worth about 1000 times that amount. They are on completely different planes of existence when it comes to rarity.

A gold book like Akaviri can't be valued off of the prices of pages. The Anniversary boxes are the first and only things that allowd for it to drop and with that event over with you may have to wait another year for the chance again. And the odds are slim of getting one. As for every other gold book, everyday you have a chance to get it to drop. At least that's how I see the value in gold motifs. I have over 25 and I would say this has been the hardest to come by so far.

***edit Sorry not every book is available year round. Skinchanger, Hallowjack and Worm Cult are among other limited *** motifs. But I've seen dozens of them which drives prices down. Worm Cult was work 2 million the first day someone found one. Now I see at least 1 in each major trader. As for Akaviri, the one you are talking about is the only second I've heard of.

Kinda curious if anyone got a gold Militant Ordinator.

@Jayne_Doe you can get a Motif Book for Mercenary?? I've been playing on Xbox since Day 1 and never seen or heard of that one, thought it was all just pages.

As far other Gold Motif books I've been lucky enough to find 4 Imperial Style books(3 in the same city over the years, weirdly) and 1 Skinchanger Style on the last day of the New Life Festival, two boxes after finishing off learning all of the pages on my crafter. It and 2 Imperial books are still sat on an Alt as I do not know what to do with them.

I do believe it is pretty much all RNG and while I'm lucky in some aspects, I'm not in others - The Blue Ringed Octopus for example took me 6-9 months and hundreds if not over a thousand bait to try and finish off my Orsinium Fishing achievement. Its like RNG knows what I need and doesn't help me out while being kind enough to give me really cool stuff I already have or have no use for like Perfect Roe and Aetherial Dust - don't know the recipes they're involved in.

I do wish you luck in your quest to find some Gold Motif Books though.

Every single gold book other than trial/dungeon related ones I've ever found, have been in backpacks. My motto is 'leave no backpack unchecked' I've had far more luck with backpacks than any other container for good drops.

Found 2 Imperial motifs. First one I used for my main crafter and the second I sold for 125K.

Other than that I have found the 4 cheap purple motif books (Ancient Elf, Daedric, etc) which sell pretty well at 500g each.

You’re buddy said he found all of the gold books? I’m calling him a liar haha, motifs come from certain areas of the game. The only gold book you can pull from backpacks is the imperial book, the others have to come from their specific areas. For example to get a gold Bouyant book, which the chances of this are pretty much none (you have a better chance getting a cipher), you’d have to pull it from a vvardenfell chest. To get a gold assassin’s league book you’d have to pull it from Gold Coast dailies. Gold books don’t just drop out of random containers unless those containers drop pages of that Motif Set also

@The702Guy No, as far as gold books, he only found the Buoyant Armiger book from Vvardenfell. He has found various other purple books, for example, recently he found Barbaric and Primal. The only books that I have found that was not a blue racial motif book, was deadric. Most recently I found Primal.

I was wanting to know if certain books that are able to be found in game in certain zones (that are not from the crown store) are found in only specific containers, or can be found in any container or reward box that you can get. Sorry, I should have been more clear on that.

Oh well then yeah books are in different spots. The first 14 styles are all full books that can be found in any container across the game. Any after the first 14 styles are found in specific locations and they come in sets of 14 pages and extremely rarely a gold book. They can drop in DLC dailies, Trials, in chests in certain areas, world bosses. Here is a list of where motifs drop:

Like I said, after the first 14 styles they come in pages rather then full books. The full books can be acquired from these locations also but the chances are slim to none.
