I think it's pure RNG, and if you don't give it special personal favors, if you know what I mean, it ignores you. You see someone the RNG likes, you know they hadda do something degrading. That's my theory, anyway, and I refuse to be talked out of it.

I must have done something to *** off RNGesus, or something, but my luck is pure crap. It started with Destiny 2, to the point I just gave up with the game. But for some reason, my terrible RNG luck has followed me back to ESO.
I spend extra time wherever I am in game, searching every container I find for a chance to find a gold book, or a purple book of a style that I actually want and care about. I get nothing.
My cousin on the other hand, finds everything. But then again, he is only in school part time and has almost every hour of every day to play games. I work on the other hand, and play a few hours each night and a couple hours each day over the weekend.
By my calculations, I may find a gold book by the end of 2020.

Some people are just luck magnets, and some are just the opposite. It's become a running joke between my best friend and me to open our crown crates together and watch what crap I get and then watch her get a motif or apex mount a second later. Maybe it's pheromones. Digital pheromones. I still think the RNG is some sort of demon, or I guess in this game, a daedric prince.
I play ESO since the early access and I found only ONE gold book so far (Imperial Motif). But I'm quite lucky in all other RNG influenced cases, so I won't complain.
Keep in mind the following:
Full motif books can be (usually) found the same way the respective pages are. For example you can find Minotaur motif pages in Gold Coast daily reward containers, and with an extremely(!) small chance you might find the whole book instead of a single page. When I say extremely small chance, I really mean it. Don’t expect to find an Apostle motif book in a random crate because that’s not where Apostle motif pages drop.
Unless your cousin is the luckiest player in ESO history with the best possible RNG, I doubt he found multiple gold motif books through regular gameplay. Your language and questions lead me to think that you are not a veteran player and are still learning the game. Although I don’t know about your cousin, if you group with him often, he could be around the same level as you(?). Which would make it even less plausible that he found multiple full motif books. Even most of my veteran friends would be extremely happy and enthusiastic if they found one. They really are. That. Rare.
TL;DR - I would say your cousin got the motif books from the Crown Store/Crates.

I'm sitting on one in the bank from my last free level up crate, I'll probably convert to gems since my crafter already knows 9/14. I count myself as quite lucky for both that, and pulling the imperial book this past weekend from one of the cases in AA.

TTC has one listed for 1.45mil, but that seems high based on an average per item value of 50K. That would be 700K total for the 14 individual motifs.

I was specifically addressing the Gold Akaviri Book pricing from TTC in my earlier post.
On NA PC, the BA motifs are going for 50K after the anniversary event. Completely tanked their value. This is true for almost all the motifs to some degree, including Akaviri and Worm Cult. Although I too have seen the Gold Worm Cult books priced way too high, but I don't know that they are selling at that value.

I've had a few friends mention that they find them very rarely as well. You are most likely to pull 10 full copies of the 14 pages associated with a motif before even a glimmer of hope of a gold version. It's all RNG though. You might just get a few very quickly or you could go 5 years and never find one.

I hope I can just wish and hope as much as I can and one will appear somewhere lol.
I mean, that's kind of the story when i found the daedric motif book. Daedric i will always be one of my favorite styles of any armor (fell in love with it in Oblivion)
When I created my MagDK, after starting the game, I was searching through everything I could find, and I was thinking to myself, in my head at the time, that how cool would it be if I found the daedric motif book this early in the game. Well wouldn't you know, after I thought that to myself, the very next container I opened a few seconds later, had the daedric motif book.
So far, that luck hasn't helped me finding a gold book But a man can dream lol

Every single gold book other than trial/dungeon related ones I've ever found, have been in backpacks. My motto is 'leave no backpack unchecked' I've had far more luck with backpacks than any other container for good drops.BozzyTheDrummer wrote: »I assume it's just pure RNG? I get pages all the time. I seem to find motifs pages and the occasional books in Backpacks. Is there specific containers that they can be found in, so I know what to look in as to narrowing down my search, or is there just a random chance they can be found in literally any type of container, anywhere?
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I seem to have horrible RNG. My cousin, who I group with a lot, always has a new style learned, and I ask him how he learned it, he always tells me, "I just found the book" like it was no problem. He has even found the Buoyant Armiger motif book and acted like it was no big deal, and from what I read, that's the most sought after motif in the game currently, am I right?
You’re buddy said he found all of the gold books? I’m calling him a liar haha, motifs come from certain areas of the game. The only gold book you can pull from backpacks is the imperial book, the others have to come from their specific areas. For example to get a gold Bouyant book, which the chances of this are pretty much none (you have a better chance getting a cipher), you’d have to pull it from a vvardenfell chest. To get a gold assassin’s league book you’d have to pull it from Gold Coast dailies. Gold books don’t just drop out of random containers unless those containers drop pages of that Motif Set also

@The702Guy No, as far as gold books, he only found the Buoyant Armiger book from Vvardenfell. He has found various other purple books, for example, recently he found Barbaric and Primal. The only books that I have found that was not a blue racial motif book, was deadric. Most recently I found Primal.
I was wanting to know if certain books that are able to be found in game in certain zones (that are not from the crown store) are found in only specific containers, or can be found in any container or reward box that you can get. Sorry, I should have been more clear on that.
