DPS as Templar Healer

Hi, so at the minute, I'm a pretty low level Magicka Templar healer. I'm currently playing with 2 of my friends, and when we are all online I enjoy being a healer, as there is something for me to do, however, when they are not online, I would like to go out and do other quests that they have already done/not interested in. The only problem is that even in a lot of the starting areas (for example a mansion in Auridon I think), when there are a decent amount of high health enemies, I either end up taking years to kill them because of my low dps, or sneak around them because in the time it takes me to kill one out of a group of 4/5, the others have done more damage than I can heal for myself, sometimes dying, but mostly ending the battle victorious, but on very low health (like sub 15%). Is there any way to sustain a decent dps in this scenario, I have a destruction staff with damage spells on my 2nd set, it just still seems to not be enough though. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long read.

My healplar runs the following skills that do damage as well as directly help others: Shards (resources), Purifying Light (debuff + heal), Reflective Light (slows foes). She also runs Sweeps which is only damage and self-heal.

EleDrain and Channeled Focus both help (alot) with sustain. Spell damage is a misnomer - it is actually spell power, as it helps both your heals and your damage. I recommend a lightning staff on your destruction bar since the perks help AoE - and your primary offense (when needed) is Sweeps (which is AoE). Shards also benefits from the AoE perk.

I find the set up provides plenty of damage and safety (via self heals) to solo all quests and zones.

I've run a Magicka Templar for over 3 years. My advice? Stop trying to be a healer for now. It's very easy to play Magicka Templar DPS and simply slot 1 emergency heal for the moments when your friends need it. There is nothing in this entire game that requires a dedicated healer until you reach endgame veteran trials. 100% of all players should always, 100% of the time, play as a DPS first until reaching 160 CP. The reason is that you will level faster and reach the gear cap sooner. Reaching that gear cap is the most important thing because that's when you can start acquiring sets that are actually useful for your chosen playstyle. You can easily respec back to heals at that time.

Important skills:
Blockade of Storms (Wall of Elements morphs with lightning staff) should be on the ground at all times, period.
Reflective Light (Sun Fire morph) is a cheap, powerful damage ability that also buffs your whole team with Minor Sorcery.
Ritual of Retribution (Cleansing Ritual morph) will give you large area damage, area heal over time, slow enemies, and the Minor Mending buff (+8% to heals).
Puncturing Sweeps is your spammable. You should apply your DoTs first, then use your spammable a few times, then reapply DoTs. (Timing just depends on which skills you're using, but you want a consistent rotation where you always do skills in the same order and have enough time to refresh DoTs just as they expire..)
Harness Magicka (Annulment morph, from the Light Armor skill line) is a ward that will prevent you from taking damage. Use it! Your friends should also be using it if they're Magicka characters. Proper warding makes healing almost completely unnecessary. It is VERY important that you ALWAYS wear at least 5 light armor, both for DPS reasons and to enable this skill.
Inner Light (Magelight morph from the Mage's Guild skill line) can be slotted on both bars to give you a passive crit buff and a passive Max Magicka buff. You don't actually use the ability, just slot it for the passives.
Breath of Life (Rushed Ceremony morph) is your emergency heal. With a Ritual on the ground and proper warding to prevent most damage, this is all you'll ever need. (Note the other morph may be better in the next patch... maybe.)

Healers are dps too. Just skills are diffrent. Swap.skills with dps and you are good to go.

Use will power+spc for easy transition if you dont want to bother with many set changes.

Spear, elemental weakness, vampire's bane, entropy, rune will be enough 1 bar only setup. Not optimal but casual af.
