Remove the limit on character deletion?

cgregsweeney
So, I've only recently gotten back into the game after giving it a try sometime last year. I'm definitely a noob, technically speaking, but I'm experienced enough with MMORPGs in general that I'm not suffering too much.

My biggest issue is this: creating the perfect character that suits me. I'm big on my character being lore abiding, I generally always make them resemble me- blonde hair, blue eyes, thicc and male. Naming is also a big issue, but I can usually come up with something that meets all my standards.

Naturally, my crippling perfectionism usually results in multiple deleted and recreated characters. I've had the Breton Templar/Sorcerer Theodore Hearthside, the Khajiit Nightblade Ak'bar the Stout, the Nord Dragonknight Halvor Round-Gut, and most recently Bruno Bearclaw- another Breton, Greenwarden.

I even stress what order I complete quests in, and the ultimately meaningless choices I'm given. I say meaningless because the results are the same more or less either way, it just adds some flavor to your character's...well, character.

I know eventually I'll create the perfect character, but until then, being able to scrap my unwanted characters as much as I need would be VERY helpful. I'm sure there's people who would abuse this privilege, and that's why this limit is even in place, but I really feel like my experience would be greatly improved if I could do this.

I take it you're either not a perfectionist,
or you got it perfectly the first time. lol.

    - but yeah, one per day. Ultimately you can get up to three,
because if you don't use them they carry over.

There's a limit because back in the day there was no limit and so people/botters used to create new characters, run to the Rift, do a quick "talk to this NPC-get gold for it" quest, mail the gold off to another account, delete the character, create a new character, rinse, repeat, ad nauseum.

Then ZOS added the character deletion limit and all that went away right quick.

The limit is there to prevent botters from creating/deleting hundreds of characters a day.

It resets every 24 hours. And using up your limit every day is literally the opposite of "perfectionist" ...

If you have access to the test server, you can make them over as many times as you want to, and use an appearance change token for free to tweak the look. Then when you have it perfect, write down all the slider specs, such as:

Cheekbone height: 7 clicks from left
Jaw size: 6 clicks from left
Eye separation: 4 clicks from right

Then you can recreate the look exactly on the live server.

Like I said "I'm sure there's people who would abuse this privilege, and that's why this limit is even in place"

This is more or less what I imagined. A few puswads ruin it for the rest of us.

Perhaps neurotically compulsive would be more accurate than perfectionist, lol.

The issue generally isn't about appearance, so much as...hmm...

You know what? I can't put my finger on it. There's always just some little thing that bugs me.

A dialog option I chose, the order I completed the quests in, a glitch or something like the Prophet's Projection not appearing before receiving The Harborage quest, stuff like that.

It's not just about the character, it's about how the character progresses. Yes, I know, it's silly of me. :s

They deletion tokens refresh extremely quickly. Like 48-72 hours or somewhere around there. I do the same thing as you, and I've learned that just jumping in head first is the best thing to do. Honestly, if you complete the majority of quests in each preceding zone, you'll find recurring characters with quests that continue their previous quest, or find themselves in similar situations. As you said, many times the outcome will be the same, but if you don't know yet, the dialogue choices highlighted in red represent important decisions that will affect that person or you in some permanent way. Either way, it's always pleasant to see old characters that you've done quests for before that give you some exposition on what they've been up to since you've last seen them.

I believe some of those "important" decisions do affect the main quest line towards the end.

Plus there's the champion system to even further tailor your character. Also, respeccing is rather affordable, and you can buy name/appearance tokens if necessary, but your collection tab (u on PC) gives you quite a bit of customization options without needing an appearance change token.

TL;DR: The game is extremely flexible, with a lot of fun hidden/subtle nods towards those who thoroughly explore the zones. Find a class that feels right and try to just play without a plan (a lot easier said than done, I know), and go out and experience the ESO universe!

I'd rather they didn't because someone getting into ones account and deleting all characters would be an absolute nightmare

if you're deleting more than one character a month then honestly I'm not sure what you are doing lol

I've found the Sorcerer class to be wonderful, but I can never create a character I like for it. Theodore Hearthside was definitely more suited as a Templar. I mean, Theodore means "Divine Gift" and Hearthside literally means "by the Fire".

I really want to create an Undaunted Vampire Sorcerer Breton, but can't come up with a good name that meets my usual conventions. I'm thinking something to do with Gluttony, since it'll be all about consuming the blood of my enemies.

What if you had someone else create a character for you? A character that wasn't your own, but had their own appearance and flaws. You wouldn't need to perfect them because they're created outside of your own intervention. like sure, you can imagine their persona and attach yourself as you wanted, but it would be its own 'independent' character.

Most of my characters the sliders are directly in the middle or off to the very ends, everything is usually covered by Armor anyway.

The reasons there is a limit far exceed logic to remove it. Perhaps just ask for free character redesign once and possibly change the appearance change token to allow multiple changes before confirming instead of confirming up front.

GTA5 lets you rename like once a year or whatever, however that's entirely account based stuff and very different.

it'd be pretty amazing if once a year you got a free name + appearance change token. Totally refresh a character. A bit silly to ask for, but it'd really let you refresh an old character.

When skimpy outfits are released in the crown store, this guy won't equip them on a cute elf, he will use them on the in game version of himself. So he can admire his character in all his "thiccness". :D

The projection not appearing before your quest notifier triggers? Wtf?

That’s more than a little ocd.

I like the Argonian Armor, it's much more revealing than others in my experience.

Like a strap of leather over my chest, and everything else is on full display, lol. Priceless. o:)

I know it shouldn't, but Shor's Bones it really does. Thankfully the support team is so awesome. They fixed it one time, after I contacted them about it. It still happens on every character I make, but I was assured they're looking into it.

It's part of the reason I decided to go all in and get membership, and pre-order Summerset. If they had said something like "It's really not a big deal" or "this isn't worth our time" I can guarantee you, I would've dropped this game like a hot potato.

Good community management and customer support is key for any MMORPG I play. <3
