If they take crown store gifting to the next level and just make the items fully tradeable then you can spend in game resources on crown items so that's something that could happen in the future.

This is essentially a dollar-to-gold pipe-line. If this happens many people will be up in arms about it.

You know that many games do that, especially these days as a way to cut out the scammy gold sellers, right?
Like WoW, you can pay $20 for a $15 month subscription token, and then sell it on the in-game auction house for gold.
And in a lot of games with some sort of lockbox, many of the lockbox items are BoE and can therefor be traded or sold. This isn't a new development, it's 5-10 years old, no new "rabbit hole" or slippery slope needed.
