Crown Crates or crowns as rare drops

Currently much of the anger from the playerbase has been directed at the fact that pretty much everything in the crown store is unobtainable in the game any other way. What if crown crates or crowns themselves were rare drops from mobs or nodes? That way there'd at least be an ingame way to earn this stuff rather than get a second job.

They wouldn't do that tho. Or the drops would be as rare as an aetheric cipher. The crown-crates and crowns are a corner-stone of their business model and they will not compromise it, although we would appreciate it.

I believe that crates were stated to be a very rare potential daily login reward. I suppose that kinda counts if it's true.

If they take crown store gifting to the next level and just make the items fully tradeable then you can spend in game resources on crown items so that's something that could happen in the future.

    Ugh. No. :|

(and I can just see farming companies taking advantage of that, particularly the Crowns idea, once crown store gifting turns on. Run bots 24/7 to farm those "rare" crowns, then 'sell' Crown Store gifts for gold, then sell gold for $)

This is essentially a dollar-to-gold pipe-line. If this happens many people will be up in arms about it.

However they are already so far down the rabbit-hole they should just start selling gold directly at this point.

My dream is CS goods as a rare rewards earnable in-game.
One horse as a rare reward from a last boss in one dungeon, another one - in another dungeon. The same for costumes and so on.
But it's not going to happen. ZOS would rather make crates as a stupid daily-login-reward just like if ESO was another one Korean free2play/pay2win crap.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the world or me.

PAWS (Positively Against Wrip-off Stuff) - Say No to Crown Crates!

Sick&tired of being kicked off from your house when you complete a dungeon? ComingBackHome addon is what you need!

You know that many games do that, especially these days as a way to cut out the scammy gold sellers, right?

Like WoW, you can pay $20 for a $15 month subscription token, and then sell it on the in-game auction house for gold.

And in a lot of games with some sort of lockbox, many of the lockbox items are BoE and can therefor be traded or sold. This isn't a new development, it's 5-10 years old, no new "rabbit hole" or slippery slope needed.

Yeah but this game isn't those other games. I think the players want to try and avoid that system for this game. And currently, real world trading is against the ZoS terms of service so they would need to change their own policies for this to happen.

That being said I really don't think it would matter at this point if they sold gold directly or not. What makes me more angry is the idea of individual pages to a motif locked behind RNG AND a paywall.

If Crates start dropping in game, we will prob need to collect 10 and buy a crown token that will combine the 10 into 1 usable crate. Kinda like Glass motif but via Crown store. Or they could copy Neverwinter and make us buy the keys to open the "free" crates.

Never gonna happen. I wouldn't want that anyway, to be honest.

I guess my point is that there is *SO MUCH* stuff that is only available in the crown store, and many (I being one of them) are saying that literally everything in the crown store SHOULD have a method to acquire it ingame somehow. There are a number of ways to implement this:

    1. Have said items be INCREDIBLY rare rewards for completing quests/writs/dungeons/whathaveyou.
    2. Tie these things to in-game achievements, much like a lot of the dyes/polymorphs are now.
    3. Have said items be INCREDIBLY rare drops from thieving/fighting/harvesting.

    OR

    4. Instead of the items themselves be these things, just make the crates/crowns themselves these things.

I'm personally suggesting the 4th option since receiving crowns as a reward or drop allows me to choose the item I want, rather than depend on a historically vindictive RNG.

mmmm, let me think about this....

see there's this bit at the start...

'Currently much of the anger from the playerbase'

that should be rephrased as 'currently there are a few vocal people on this forum who are angry'

that i could go with. so,

    no thanks.
