Which genius in ZOS thought putting stealable items beside craft writ boxes is a good idea?

Many of my chars are law abiding citizens, and they work word to provide gears for the soildiers in his/her/its alliance....so one day they are turning in the writs, they misclicked, and then

"Criminal Scum! You have committed crimes against Skyrim (Somewhere) and its people, What say you in your defense!"
???

This happened many times (and especially recent days since I'm trying to get all the daily boxes of course), and prevent auto loot stolen items won't work on items that are not in a container..and there are plenty of such items right beside the writ boxes

Lol, happened to me this weekend too. I wouldn't have cared so much if I didn't have about 2k worth of stolen stuff on me.

This happens to me so often!

I just make sure I don't have any other stolen stuff on me when I turn in writs. Pay the dumb (92 gold) fine and go on my way.

There is an addon out there that prevents stealing if you are not hidden. If you are having a ton of trouble with your character having random sticky fingers, you may want to look for it. I don't remember its name offhand.

They did it for Skyrim immersion. That might sound sarcastic, but it's true.

Maybe your characters are not really as law abiding as you think, you should understand that they are human/elf/beast after all, and every now and then, they could get a little greedy. You have to admit that you work them too hard and probably out of spite they steal some stuff every now and then.

Just re-train your characters by turning the auto steal setting off. And please make sure that your characters keep the items in the delivery boxes carefully, it takes only a second longer to put the items in gently, we have received several complaints of dented weapons and cracked bottles recently, we hope that it was not your character's doing.

The other day i was doing writs in elden root and stopped to do provisioning and ended up stealing white meat instead of using the cooking fire. It cost me 1k gold all said and done to make a couple of things. Was really annoying.

i'm gonna take a wild guess and say all of those stealable items that are located right next to the writ turn in crates, the guild trader stalls, and merchant locations - are not there by accident...

A guard walked by and pushed me as I was about to talk to the vendor, I grabbed a banana by mistake and they charged me for it! The guard did it on purpose I tell you!

This happened to me once while I was just trying to read a bookshelf (who the hell puts apples in their bookshelves anyway) and then my pets jumped the NPC who witnessed it and *boom* I became a murderer.

You need to press the interact key 37 times due to lag. It's easy to pickup something else.

Thankfully, there is an add-on that gets rid of accidental stealing.

that doesnt do what you think it does.

    auto loot ON/OFF
    - auto loot stolen items ON/OFF

Both of mine are set to off and you can still flog those things.

Dont look down when opening the boxes. stop moving BEFORE you click. problem solved.

If you pay attention, it shows what you have "accidentally" selected in a dialogue box.... If I don't want to steal it... I just "CANCEL" OUT... EZPZ

that works for stealable items in containers, but not for items that are out in the open gameworld

the second setting, for auto looting stolen items, applies only to items inside containers but not for items in the gameworld itself

Oh I click away at those writ turn in boxes in Eldenroot...until I get to the woodworking box and then make sure I click on the box, not the staff that is placed right in front of the box.

And when I don't see the staff there I smile because someone else clicked too quick.

Annoying, but not a huge deal. Casually jog away and the guard hits their tether.

Bounty goes away quickly with the TG passives.

Happened to me a few times after I moved my chars to Riften, when CWC went live, because I wasn't used to the positions of the random boxes on the turn in containers. Pretty easy to miss those when you're in a rush to hit those boxes as fast as possible, vendor the ornates, deposit the glyphs and intricates in the bank and log in the next one. But seldom happens now, when I've learned where they are.
