nothing fun, entertaining or very rewarding about VMA - the set drops and vma weapons are not bis for most builds now.

It's not remotely interesting and only reason for doing it is for the 'challenge', otherwise big waste of time.

Ah, you are talking PvP. I have no idea about PvP, but litterally every pve build uses them if it is possible.

Face it folks the ZOS RNG system sucks. I am not going to do that Vma mess over and over again in hopes of getting the weapons I want but instead keep getting everything else. Now if they had a token system in place where when you finished it you could choose what you wanted different story. Of course we all know that will never happen. Because then you will not keep coming back to farm it and this game is all about farming.

This right here. I did nma just because I kept hearing all the horror stories, easy it was.

Did a couple of rounds of vma just to see the difference and I'm sure I could complete it, just seems pointless though until they offer some type of token system as I don't find the content fun at all, just tedious.

I have better things to do in-game with my time.

I completed MA after about a year of casually trying. Tried vMA and couldn’t handle all the stuff flying at me at once and realized it isn’t enjoyable. Some people enjoy stressed out sweaty hands gameplay. I don’t.

I run it to "git gud" at a build.

Stages of making a build :
    • Theory craft new build
    • Get gear and skills
    • Get decent DPS parse on a skelly
    • Complete vMA
    • Use in dungeons & trials

If you can't complete vMA on a dps, then it's a bad build.

When I used to do VMA, it was for the weapons for the most part. Then, I began to use it as a means to test builds I’d create. Nowadays? I dont bother with the content at all. I tried it a month or so ago, out of curiosity of its performance... Which gave me the results that the content has become even more bug-filled than the last time I ran it. Naturally, I wasn’t pleased. And therefore, I haven’t set foot in it since.

Played it to level 5 after watching videos. No deaths so far, but I find it not much fun. Too tedious and long for a weapon you "might" get. No thanks. I do just fine with other gear. Same way I feel about "trials" in this game. Run into/out of this circle. RNG you may get hit by this or that. Boring stack on boss and hit the same buttons in a row until time to run somewhere and try not to get hit...Zzzz

Did a leaderboard or more every week until Morrowind came and they made a mess of resource management. Not long after they also nerfed the weapons. I have only made one run post Morrowind in order to get the head.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

It was very disheartening because after suffering so much in the previous stages, I hit that wall with the last boss. A few days back I almost uninstall the game and cancel Summerset because of it. That's how much it was messing with my mind :D

I used all my luck in the world because I got the bow in that first run. I don't think I'm ever coming back.

Yea first vma the last boss took me over 400 deaths on my weak dps magplar. Took me 3 days to beat it.
Now with pet sorc, it’s a cake walk.

Mind sharing the build for it? I still do it on a magplar but it takes ages with the damage it pulls off. It is an easy leaderboard though lol

Magplar was 5 julianos, 2 skoria with 3 willpower or 3 moondancer , skills depends on rounds. I changed race to high elf too and cp for that last boss.
Pet sorc is just 5 necro, 2 grothdar then same as above.

vMA is easy enough, I am currently farming it to get the weapons for all my alts.

However it's tedious and repetitive. The only place where it's not repetitive, stage 7 (I think) with the RNG flowers, is not tedious, it's hideous.

Add the fact vMA weapons have faced 1 large nerf in the past and a large "non buff" (aka an indirect nerf) for Summerset, and I can understand why many won't bother doing vMA again.

It'll only stay for those hard core guys who want the "flawless" title and for the challenge. But not a skill challenge, it's a "stay awake for the whole run" challenge or the "recall by memory some hundreds of spawn points" challenge.

Arrow spray hit despite being outside of it (lag, the client calculated the last position, but the telegraph was rendered late), health went down to 1/3, then a quick shot finished the job.

    That's Lagstrom arena for you.

Did my first run shortly after I returned to ESO 6 weeks ago. Got a lightning staff after 10ish runs and took an extended break from vMA of about 3 weeks. I'm now returning for a fire staff.
My finishing times got from 6 hrs on first run, to 3 hrs in the second, from now 1:13 hrs with even a few lives left at the end. Feels quite rewarding to see how you're getting better. No idea if I'll get flawless somewhen, would be cool but I guess once I have the flame staff I'll take an extended break from vMA again.

Maelstrom Bow is still BiS for every stamina PvE build, Maelstrom Inferno/Lightning are still BiS for every magicka PvE build.

In PvP they lost a fairly considerable weapon/spell damage bonus that used to stack with poisons, so it's not beneficial anymore to run them with said poisons, and that's the reason they are useless (in PvP).

The grief you mentioned was from PvP folks that spend months farming the weapons, and now they have no reason to use them anymore.

In PvE they actually received a buff.

I wouldn't mind seeing vMA and Maelstrom weapons recive their max stat/WD-SD buff back, with Summerset.

    For testing builds
I don't find it hard, but it becomes boring after doing it dozens of times. Once I got my weapons I stopped running it altogether. Now even my crafting alts have them. When I ran regularly - August-November 2017 - I did for completion on various classes, and getting the weapons. I may start running it again in the future though, but for now I have other priorities.

I did it in short order on my Magicka Sorcerer w/o pet, Stamina DK, Magicka Templar and Stamina NB, then a bit later on Stamina Warden. Got every one of them on the leaderboard at least once, except the NB, since I'm really bad at that class and died a lot. It helped me a lot fine tune my builds. The most radical changes came about in the Templar build, since I really got beaten hard trying to stay melee, so I switched to ranged, dropping some iconic class skills in order to smooth out the runs. Long things short I've found out Puncturing Sweep was hitting like a boiled noodle, costing a ton, and healed for less than the damage taken using it so I dropped it. I was running Elemental Drain, had 1.6K recovery, 3.5K spell damage and almost 40K magicka and that skill still felt weak as hell. Haven't tried it in a while, but maybe it was broken.

I haven't done vMA in a while, but during double XP events I use the normal version for leveling characters. It's between 5-8 levels per run with training gear and XP scroll on top of the seasonal bonus so it's pretty fast. I reckon is not much slower than the much hyped Skyreach. I've actually done that to compare, but besides being much harder due to the huge trash pulls, there wasn't much difference in XP/time spent inside.

Took really long break from vMA after I got all the weapons that I wanted. But like a week or two ago I decided to clear it for first time ever on my mag NB (used to farm it with mag/stamina sorc), got around 450k score and it was propably the last time for this year that I will bother to go into there.

So the answer for topic: For first it was about farming weapons and now that I got the weapons that I need and which are somewhat useful, clearning vMA has become more like personal goal after which one can say that; Hey! I know how to play with this char.

I actually wanted the weekly reward drop, but twice when I did it with my pet sorc I got bumped out of the weekly leaderboard cos way too many people still playing vma and minimum 45k score required to even get a weekly reward as a sorc, hence I wonder why people still playing vma and not letting us average player a chance of a weekly reward drop.

On EU-PC any class but Sorcerer and NB is basically guaranteed to reach the leaderboard if you do a decent run, meaning one that takes 1.5 hours or less. For Templar, Warden and even DK the leaderboard never fills.

On PS4 NA Templar, Warden, DragonKnight are guaranteed leaderboards. Doesn’t matter if Mag or Stam.

I play Stamblade and Stamplar. If you get over 300k nightblade is also basically guaranteed. Some weeks it doesn’t even fill so also easy leaderboard grab.

Sorc is different. I wouldn’t be comfortable with anything less than 450k.

Leaderboard runs must be done in one continuous run. Not so great if you’re trying to learn and taking breaks.

I Already got all the good stuff and the gear from there is all pretty useless. I guess people de-con it trying to get tempers. Or working the way up leaderboard trying to get better.

    Never played vma
I have listened to guild members who had tried to get a weapon in VMA. From everything I have heard and from knowing how bad the RNG is, I will never be attempting it. It is not worth it.
