Barrier in Support tree

I got this morph recently and tried it in a pvp and I must say it's complete garbage. It works quite nicely in Pve though!

I thought maybe a shield generated by an ultimate should be a little more effective in Pvp because I received it through Pvp. What do you all think?

In Pvp I find my only shield worth casting is frost slab but I've been running ice heart as well. Shield ally costs too much but I bet harness magicka could be worth it.

I recognize with classes that have shields as a main form of defense instead of healing it would be trickier to balance.

Shields in pvp have been nerfed. And nerfed again. Then nerfed some more.

Yes. The irony is amazing that barrier which is supposed to be a strong ultimate shield, comes from the place where shields are now the weakest. XD

Untrue, the strenght of barrier is: You can't crit while is active, it lasts a fuckton of time.

Gives 10% mag recovery when slotted

Costs 200 ult and a moprh gives you ult back.

It's actually decent for raiding if you don't need other ults

This is what you get when you do bandaid fixes instead of fixing the real issue.

    Sounds very familiar to me.

Also actually absorbs a tiny amount of damage. Not worth having in Pvp even slightly

Yes thanks for the shield that costs 200 ultimate and lasts like 2 lights attacks. You speak of 200 as if it's cheap. If only I can use emojis here. Why are you even defending this garbage ultimate?
Like I said it's decent in pve where the shield is strong.

It used to cover 24 people at time, now it only does 6, like every other mass heal/sheild in the game.

2 of your light attacks cut through 30k worth of shielding? Wow, that's impressive. Do your 2 light attacks cut through the 30k of shielding on the rest of the group, too?

It's an emergency group shield. Sure, it's of limited use if you're soloing and relying on it as a primary shield, but if you're using it while soloing and relying on it as a primary shield, you're doing it wrong.

Wards are cut in half in PVP. So it would be around 15k. Barrier lasts for 30 seconds, it is supposed to be a preventative measure when assaulting keeps and such, with a 6 person cap, it hardly does that, it ought to be 12 people at least, like warhorn.

You're right, it's 15k in PVP... for 6 people... and it prevents crits... and it either heals or gives magicka and ulti back, with a bonus to magicka recovery...

Like I said, it's an emergency shield, and it's intended for assaulting keeps (or defending them when the doors go down). It's fantastic for blunting the first wave of burst damage and CCs when you're going through a door or a wall, and if you're using the ulti regen version, you're ready for your front bar ulti almost immediately afterward.

Is it a situational Ultimate? Absolutely. But it's still quite useful, provided you're not expecting it to be a replacement for personal shields.

After they nerfed Barrier to only affect 6 people, it essentially became worthless outside of dungeons
After they nerfed shields in PvP, it became even MORE worthless.

They need to reduce the cost of Barrier to 150 or at least revert the 6 player limitation because honestly, even with 100 points into bastion, it's just not really worth it as it currently is.

I could get behind reducing the cost to 150. It is a touch pricey.

It’s an underrated ultimate for small group PvP ... especially if you’re buffing the shield or heal through another means (e.g. Jorvuld’s Guidance).

If you set the shield aside, the morphs are a decent heal or ult acceleration.

Not the greatest ultimate for raid healing, however.

I think trial or group healing is where this Ultimate really shines. The shield lasts very long, it absorbs like twice the amount of HP every player has (except health and tank builds) and the 30s HoT is decent and can proc a lot of sets over that duration.

I think it's great in PvP as well, especially battlegrounds with a coordinated group. The absorption is halved but the HoT still keeps going for 30s and procs various sets.

The morph for the ultimate regen is a bit weak though, imho. I wish it wouldn't be limited on 6 targets or the amount of restored ultimate would be higher than it is at the moment. 36 ultimate when you hit max targets is not very much by a cost of 200. And the range is limited to a 12m radius. As an example, Healing Thicket of the Warden costs 90 ultimate and when it heals a target below 50% health you restore 20 ultimate. How's 6ult/target on a 6 target limit with a cost of 200 good then?

Looks like a troll post for me.

Of course, slots for ultimates are extremely limited in smallscale PVP. Therefore, often such groups can not afford to use Barrier - there is another priorities. But it remains a great situational ultimate, that can often turn the course of the battle.
    Everything is viable

Barrier is absolutely awesome in PvE with 100 points in Bastion...in PvP its not nearly as impressive...but certainly has its uses, but these days its most effective for small-group encounters where everyone is stacked close enough to get the shield...so very much situational, useful mainly for non-templar PvP healers

I use barrier when entering forts etc... breached to give the others with me a shield as they charge in to engage... that with combat prayer and springs and you roll over greater numbers of opponents unless they equally organised...

    Barrier is good :)
