Anniversary Event Critique

I'd just like to take the time to thank you and say that I've thoroughly enjoyed the anniversary event thus far. The rewards are awesome, zones (with dailies) are alive, full of chatter, people joining groups and sharing quests. While doing dailies, I find myself re-exploring zones that I have completed several times and enjoying them all over. I'm excited to log in every day and see what rewards the day will reap.

What are some of the things you have enjoyed during this event?

    Props to you Zenimax!

I have to agree with OP. The event has been great fun.

Also it’s good to see someone creating a post to express their pleasure and appreciation. It’s too rare.

I may need to visit Cyrodiil to see this firsthand. I've been so preoccupied doing other stuff, I've left Cyrodiil mostly alone.

Last year's Anniversary Jubilee was the best event they'd ever done, largely because it rewarded us for doing things we'd likely do anyway by giving us some of the rare rewards that can be really frustrating to get. It made us feel appreciated and created a lot of good will by taking the edge off of some of those rarities.

So, of course, they go and replicate the event but with the addition of a rare item that can only be gotten during the event.

To take a their single best event and then kick the legs out from under what made it great? I swear, ZOS must have someone whose job title is "Senior Executive in Charge of Ruining Things."

Agreed. This event has been fantastic. Can't complain in any respect, I'm very happy for all the motifs and mats I've gotten.

Although, having said that, I will be mildly relieved when the event is over because I am getting a little burned out from farming maximum dailies every day. :D

I enjoyed Anniversary event last year. The reward was awesome, but this time it is even better. So many useful items in every box! Some are unobtainable for me during the year: transmutation crystals (I don't do activities that yield them) and Perfect roe (I'm not patient for fishing and never had luck in it). This year furniture plans and provisioning recipes were a pleasant surprise for me as I always lack gold for them. Finally, the motifs! Some are unobtainable for me - Akaviri and DLC dungeon pages, as I don't do PVP and I don't think I'll ever be good enough to do dungeons on vet HM. And they are also very expesive. But now, I can complete my collections. Some are already done, and I'm happy. With the new outfit system I finally can play with appearance as often as I can, and my weapons will not be red! I'm grateful to ZOS for this event.
Worm Cult... Well, it was the weak side of the event for me. But I managed to get it all.

with the introduction of the outfit system - all of these motifs are even more valuable to me...

hopefully I'll have a bunch of dupes left over from the event that I can sell off in a few months...

in general - this event is helping me to build up a good bit of coin...

as much as I like killing my fellow pvp buddies - the cyro semi-truce this is a lot of fun...nice change of pace there...

I'm opposite opinion to all of the above.

I find the event frustrating and bringing on an almost anxiety like feeling.
This is due yo the limited time only drop of the Worm Cult motif. For those people who are trying to collect them all, most will not succeed in completing this style this year due to the low drop rate. Call me a cynic but I believe the motif will be released on the Crown store 'for a limited time only for 5000 crowns, down from 6000, so be quick!'.

The sheer number of motifs dropping is crashing the price of these. Good for buyers, bad for sellers. I guess its to help new players catch up?

Plus I hate doing dailies, find them so boring and repetitive, especially when forced into doing them if one wants the WC motif.

This event is where i get most of my Perfect Roe and Nirncrux for the year. These are two things I can not bring myelf to farm. I dont do a lot of dailies outside of crafting writs. But I will run a few on alts.

My only issue is where to store all motifs I am getting until the market is not saturated anymore.

Orrrrr... you could just not do the dailies and buy the WC motifs you're missing? As you yourself said, it's a great time for buyers right now.

It is a good event. I am getting just over 20% drop rate for motifs from event boxes. Got tons of crafting material. And since the event started i have been hoarding all the motifs i got in storage chests. Using the average TTC price for the motifs this morning i figured up that i have just over 4 mil gold in motifs for all motifs acquired during this event( some not from event boxes). Thats not to bad for just 2 characters i think.

Us people ARE forced into doing dailies 24/7. If you looked on traders you would see the astronomical price of these WC chapters.

Although I was pretty bummed out they made the event motif a rare drop, I am really liking the event. I spend about an hour a day doing writs on my characters and that is more than enough box farming for me. I have only received 2 pages of WC on the first day and that is it, so I am fairly certain that I will not have that motif completed before the event ends. Now that I stopped caring about that, I'm able to enjoy everything else about the event. As of right now, the only motif that is not completed is WC, I managed to get the few others that were not done completed, so that is awesome. Even boxes that just have some low mats in them will come in handy someday. I think I found one roe and 2 of each of the nirncrux whatevers. Lots of other motif pages, recipes, and furniture plans I can sell off as well. Loaded up my guild stores last night and when I got up today, I'd made over 120k. I really have nothing to complain about. I'm sure we will all get another chance to complete WC at some point.

Plus, just running all my characters through writs everyday with the cake and scrolls, I am casually leveling up all these alts I never really play. And mount training is not being forgotten. Just some added bonuses for me lol

I don't think I was even remotely unclear in what I was saying, so I find I mistrust your confusion.

The event, when done right, was a break from all the hyper-rarity. It made players feel appreciated to have an opportunity to beat some of the low droprates in the game. Adding in a new hyper-rarity completely undercuts what made the event great.

There was no pressure in last year's event because every single thing you got was a bonus. There was nothing to collect and no reason for frustration. There was no good reason to be disappointed by a bad box. There was no timeline to race, no insane droprate to try to beat. It was just... nice. Adding in a new limited-time motif with a preposterously-poor droprate violated all of that.

Last year was "Not everything has to be this way. Some times we can just show our appreciation and be nice." This year was "Psych!"

it has nothing to do with being rich in game or out. its all about being logical. As i posted above i have just over 4 mil worth of motifs from this event at current TTC prices.. I could sell all my motifs that i got up to this point and nearly buy 3 WC full books.

I only do about 32 dailies between all characters on average. Im not even counting the 50k/day gold im making running all these quests which alone will buy a chapter a day of WC motif by the end of the event. Furthermore, prices on even the most common motifs have only dropped about 20%-25% on average. So its not like everything but WC is worthless.

Not to mention an "event" is very questionable as far as " part of their job". Their job is to keep the game running and provide new content to make zenimax money. Not give us bonus opportunities to acquire things outside of their normal method of acquisition. In fact this probably hurts their primary goal more than helps it which is to make money. Easy acquisition of motifs in game mean far less people willing to spend crowns.

You obviously don't have an understanding of the term completionist. Your stance is very narrow minded and verging on ignorant to other peoples play style.

If you read back to my original post and not just waffle on trying to belittle other people you would see its not life and death but frustrating that this motif will stay partially completed for at least a year.

Plus I hate doing dailies, find them so boring and repetitive, especially when forced into doing them if one wants the WC motif.

Orrrrr... you could just not do the dailies and buy the WC motifs you're missing? As you yourself said, it's a great time for buyers right now.

Why people insist they're forced into this kind of thing will always be beyond me.

LOLOL, ok some of obviously aren't as rich as you Mr Gold Pockets.

Us people ARE forced into doing dailies 24/7. If you looked on traders you would see the astronomical price of these WC chapters.

Its all the other motifs that have plummeted.

it has nothing to do with being rich in game or out. its all about being logical.

OK well good luck trying to sell them all and make your millions in the last few days.

I can only assume that the people happy about this event are from NA.

As a European, Zenimax can shove this up their "Mechanical Fundament" [no flame here ZOSbods just dropping a name of one of your sub-zones] as I have been unable to participate due to the ongoing and, totally ineffectual, maintenance.
I am beginning to understand some of the big hate aimed at the developers and their talking heads about their utter smugness and indifference towards players across the water.

It sucks when something like this happens. My ISP was down for 3 days during a previous event so I know how annoying it can be. Fortunately, it is a long event and the caps are pretty soft on how many boxes you can get so you can still make up some of it. I know this doesn't help much, just letting you know things like that happen on this side of the pond as well.
