Upgrading Epic to Legendary failed but not lost

Yesterday night I was going to upgrade one of my gear items. I dropped it to the bank and I was logging in with my main character capable of crafting level 50. I spent my 8 dreugh waxes and I saw very well, was yellow. Was locked, though, still was working. When I recovered the item with the other character, the item was still purple and the dreugh waxes were gone as well. What did I do wrong?

you have to have 20 items of Legendary Dreugh Wax, Rosin, and Tempering Alloy to make it work.

If the item was locked when you upgraded, did you type "CONFIRM"? Not sure why it would consume the wax but leave it purple, except for that or a visual glitch.

ETA: You only need 8 of the various tempers to upgrade if you have the passive maxed.

"Such is the nature of evil. Out there in the vast ignorance of the world, it festers and spreads. A shadow that grows in the dark. A sleepless malice as black as the oncoming wall of night. So it ever was, so will it always be. In time all foul things come forth." -Thranduil

I need just 8 Dreugh Wax because I have all the skill points in it. I wasn't asked to confirm. The item wasn't in my inventory, was banked.

If you were not asked to confirm the upgrade, either you upgraded an item that was not locked, or the game software has yet another "bug".

Have you used a Dye Station -> Outfit Station to create an Outfit for the character with which you equipped the Legendary item? *

So far, the Crafting UI has always displayed a confirmation dialog when I attempt to do anything at all with a locked item, except equip it on a character. (The UI will allow me to mark it as Junk and moves it to that category, but it will not allow me to sell it to a Vendor, unless and until I remove the lock.)

Also, whether the item is in the Bank -- it usually is -- or in the Bags of the character performing the action on the locked item, has never made a difference.

    * Full disclosure: I have yet to endeavor to make an Outfit for any of my characters, if only because I am satisfied with the way they currently look with the gear which they have equipped.

I tried, without succeeding. A shame, how to waste 8 Dreugh Waxes, so not honest. I'll be careful next time
