    Praetorian cannot be counted to the officer ranks. They were the guards of the roman emperor and his palace. A praetorian's rank was equal to the one of a common legionary but they had some additional benefits such as a higher salary, as well as a certain degree of prestige (not like the usual uneducated peasant/ citizen who decided to join the legions). The officers of the praetorians were also known as centurions and tribunes.

    There are a lot of ranks in the army, in the US Army there are 29 ranks total. The OP does have a point though. The ranks are really lopsided. Just to use your example as a point.

    Of those 29 ranks in the US Army, 12 are enlisted and 4 are parallel ranks. Meaning they are of the same paygrade but typically are reserved for individuals in positions of authority.

    Private (no insignia)
    Private (Second Class, although many dont recognize a difference between the two)
    Private First Class
    Specialist = Corporal
    Sergeant
    Staff Sergeant
    Sergeant First Class
    Master Sergeant = 1st Sergeant
    Sergeant Major = Command Sergeant Major = Sergeant Major of the Army

    Corporal is equal to Specialist but is usually reserved for a Team Leader, 1st Sergeant is equal to Master Sergeant but is reserved for the most senior NCO in a company, Sergeant Major of the Army is the same as Command Sergeant Major and Sergeant Major but is reserved for the most senior NCO in the Army and Command Sergeant Major is reserved for the most senior NCO of a Division, Brigade or Battalion (a Division CSM is more senior to a Brigade CSM and so forth.)

    I could go into further detail with Warrant Officers and Commissioned Officers. But the point Im trying to make is that real militarys dont have a top heavy command structure. And of those that do make it to a command position, they dont have a dozen or more ranks above them, simply a more senior individual of equal rank. This makes it much easier for someone to make a command decision and it be followed without it be overridden, or there being confusion over whos orders to follow when a order is given.

    But this is a video game and ultimately it doesnt matter that there is over a dozen senior command ranks in the game. But the OP is right. Its quite funny when you realize that the majority of ranks youll obtain are of senior position. And that would leave these armies with a lot of chiefs.

    I think they confused it with the Preator rank.

    I wish you got a costume or something at rank 50, all it does is make you a bigger target.
