DKs- how do you use your chains?

I'm trying to determine how various DKs (both stam and mag) use their chains in gameplay. It's so that we can give ZoS better feedback in the future toward our mobility. If possible- could you please provide whether your PVP or PVE oriented and which weapon bar you use your chains? (IE: SnB bar, 2H bar, DW bar, etc) Thanks!

Just a little background: I main a MagDK and I use Empowering Chains on my SnB bar to catch up to enemies in PVP... however, with the Empowering change coming out- I see that two light attacks on a SnB bar from a magDK might be negligible. I think that ZoS should change Empowering Chains to give minor vunerability for two seconds to the target. (It benefits us all and isn't OP)

I mostly PVE.

I use chains to mainly pull wandering enemies to me and hopefully an aoe, or to pull them away if they become aggressive to others in my group.

Both my bars are SnB, but chains are on what I call my 'active' bar, along with taunt, heroic slash, gap closer, and cc.

Other bar is for resistances and vigor (just in case lol).

i play a tank in PvE and tanked pretty much all vet and HM from trials. chains mostly are used for drawing all the adds to me in boss fights like the twins in MoL. sometimes they also are nice to interrupt like the stone guys in mazzatun.
in PvP i used them some months ago as gapcloser and speeding up, but i took out gapclosers off my skillbar on magplars and magdks, i just dont need them anymore.

As a brand-new MagDK Tank, I used my chains to complete the Scalecaller Peak challenges and earn my skin. That added mobility and the soft-taunt it gives was invaluable.

I use chains to pull in the biggest threat 1st, then casters/ archers who are charging up, unless I see my DPS trying to flee from an enemy or my healer getting crowded, then I pull those problematic adds in asap. I seriously wish it worked like a long-range interrupt like Crushing Shock does, but that does not always seem to be the case. You can't always interrupt bosses, or even pull in larger enemies in DLC dungeons, like Mazzatun, Cradle of Shadows, Falkreath, Imperial City, Bloodroot Forge, March of Sacrifices, Moonhunter Keep. I am not speaking of the large creatures either, (Haj Mota, Scorpions, Dreadhorns, Cremation Guards, HUlking Werewolves) just the Elite of the trash mobs. It doesn't always pull them in, nor does it always interrupt them. I Still use it on them and get a quick speed boost to run up to them, or out of the way of a boss aoe.

I simply pull in any mobs that are too far away.

I play snb and 2h in pvp and i don't use gap closer, speed pots all the way. Gap closer is only taking precious slot on my stam dk.

I cannot think of a class that has native access to the vulnerability debuff. What OP is suggesting (s)he would like to see added to chains does not seem likely due to clear balance issues.

Okay, this is for PvP only. I don't care about chains but its supposed to be iconic to Dk so I'll talk about this meme of a skill.

I don't use empowering chains on stamDk.
Compared to warden's bird of prey, its completely inferior. the empower stacks are kind of a waste compared to the minor berserk you get from bird of prey, and the cost is just outrageously high. Also, with the swift meta, gapclosers are really out of meta nowadays. Even magDks don't need one.

As for the other morph, its a zergling only ability for PvP due to the fact that it counts as a CC and gives your enemy CC immunity. So chaining someone will result in him gaining free CC immunity without having to break free really. So, unless you have a zerg following you and you want to be the useless CC bot zergling you are, there is no other reason to use this.

I'm a hybrid PVE tank. I have Unrelenting Grip chains on my S&B bar. I use them for everything. Pulling adds to me for the DPS to burn, I'll toss them at the boss as an attention getter(soft taunt) and lots of times I will toss them when I feel I am moving too slow. I love my chains.

MagDK PvP - don’t use chains. I tried the gapcloser morph but it was very clunky and overall unreliable in my experience.
