Make PVP Freak-in Awesome! Respect PVEers concerns!

So I have been putting a lot of thought into the age old PvP vs PvE concerns and wanted to come up with an idea that both could live with. Without costing ZOS a ton of dollars in Development cost or creating entirely new content. I am putting this in the General Forum because I would like to have both views about it. This may have been suggested before even though I have never come across it. I have never seen it suggested in this way:

For the PVEers:

One of the PVErs biggest dislikes are Duels in towns and the constant dueling spam. I would change it to when you activate a duel in a town you are immediately KOS by guards. One of the funniest things in the game is when you kill a Pedestrian with the Blade of Woe and the entire town becomes outraged and proceeds to put the Smack down on the assassin. The amount of time put into these reactions by developers and quality of the NPC reactions still makes me LOL a year into the game I want to see these more often.

For the PVPers:

Modify the dueling were you have an option to group duel. When you activate a duel you are given the option for solo or group dueling. If group dueling is selected each (now Group leader) gets to invite up to 11 additional members into the duel. Why set the limit at 12 for both sides? Well we don't want to cause lag issues and I think they try to keep instant sizes close or slight over 24 in most instant zones. Once the group duel starts it is not over until all members leave the group on a side. Activating the group size up front could be an option. It locks the Size of that instance by how many you selected will be participating. If I am invited into the dueling group I can travel to that instance by traveling to group mate like we already do. You can now go wherever you want to in the zone use whatever terrain you want and not affect peoples PVE experience (well other than making it more realistic for them) I mean who does not want to see an Orc go flying past them Javelin-ed off a Cliff. I think this is a great alternative to the often asked for make regular zones PVP zones. I believe that they have the ability to turn on PVP in any zone but for obvious reason choose not too so cost and coding would be minimal.

From this point on we create our own content. The ideas are virtually limitless. From Guild vs Guild to made up events it will add an element to the game that will both draw past PVPer back to the game and draw others interested in PVP wanting a more team based experience. More sandbox elements without forcing people into a game mode they do not enjoy.

Cons:

*It will effect Cyrodiil size. Yes it will. They may have to shut down one of the existing servers to bump up population, But by no means would it prevent us from totally filling up at least 1 server.
*I don't want to run around getting resources and see fighting. Well it does kinda add realism to the game. Would you be willing to live with it to increase player base bringing on more resources for PVE development?

Please don't make this a ***-fest. Please keep comments constructive one way or the other. Thanks for considering the idea.... Jack

Which nobody would complain about if they gave PVPers a way to grind it in cyro.

But you raise holy hell about if we even suggest a PVE alternative.

This sword does -not- cut both ways. And you dont get to use one to justify the other, when you hold one hostage.

I like most of it. But honestly I'm PvPer, I dislike duels in towns. I missed the olden days, the original duels in Cyrodiil. All I could see benefit duels in towns. Was to make Cyrodiil more popular and fresh recruits. Least I used to think of this, now I totally unsure. Please get rid of duel in town. Make Cyrodiil great again with duels, like it used to.

I think what PvPers and PvEers would most like is for Zeni to treat the 2 very separate playstyles like the 2 separate things they are and not force players to partake in both not only to attain skills and gear they need for their preferred playstyle but for cosmetics as simple as dyes. Four years in I am still bitter that virtually ALL the colors I like best are locked behind PvP achievements. I think we'd both like to have the devs STOP messing with our skills because of some imbalance in PvP that does not at all affect PvE and vice versa. Simply make those crossover skills work differently in PvP zones vs PvE zones. I think what we'd both like is the ability to have slotted skill bars for both PvP and PvE and be able to toggle between them accordingly without cost. This would be ESPECIALLY valuable for those who enjoy BOTH playstyles. I'm not sure why Zeni hasn't been able to figure this out.

It's probably best not to generalize and lump all of us together in the same boat. I've never said anything like that.

The dueling in towns issue would best be solved by adding a dueling arena in each major town with it's own wayshrine and merchants away from the crafting and PvE quest areas in town. Dueling would not be allowed outside the arena.

There are fanatics on both sides of this debate. Unfortunately, that type of thing tends to throw a spanner in the works and causes potential discussions to derail.

It's frustrating, I know, to have to "fight one's corner" but keeping it civil and not lumping entire player groups into one definition or perspective helps a great deal.

This idea I truly like. I'm not overly fussed about town dueling but sometimes it gets a bit much. Happily a lot of folk do tend to take it outside town but to have a nice, official arena would be a good thing, I think.

Ok so I get no ones likes to grind in the other game mode. Can I hear from some PVPers on their thoughts of a Group dueling system added to the game and every map in the game being your play ground? What would you use the system for?

For *** and giggles of course. I know it will never happen, especially since 1T vanished the meaning of alliances, but I'd found it really intriguing if you could actually take the war to other alliance's player. Remember the assualt of DC on devon's watch? How cool would it something like that would be an actual PvP event. Other games have some sort of timed, repeatable events going on. So something like this could be lumped together.

Or simply give the option to play as a bushranger.

But however, open world pvp is just a dream, like pve cyro. Doubt they will ever implement this, even as an opt-in.

This is part of why the megaserver was such a bad idea. There really SHOULD be open world PvP servers and PvE servers that include Cyrodiil as PvE only.
