Is it against the TOS to shut down a trade guild and take all the gold of the guild bank?

    Technically, “no”, since that money was donated. Socially, it’ll probably make you a (deserved) pariah.

    Not against the TOS but generally a crappy thing to do...

    Just for goodness sake, I'd try to check the donation history and return the gold to the people and keep whatever you can't return or is yours.

    They donated to the guild, not to you.

    What you should do is look at the activity of people donating, and decide up the gold appropriately, or have a "going out of business" give away. You could also promote someone else to leader, and not take money and a trade guild away from people.

    I'm not sure if you're look for an affirmation that taking the gold is alright, but there are ways to leave a guild and not screw people over (in game).

    Edit: I just saw your other post asking how much gold you can make from being a guild master. You seem like one shady dude.

    From all your posts about trade guilds over the past few days is that what you intend to do ?
    Get loads of gold from guild members and then just pocket it and disappear ?

    You could also just hand the guild over to someone who actually wants to run it instead of taking everyone's donations. That's a pretty shady move.

    It's not right now.

    It's not intended as a mechanic for setting up traders I am sure, but as of right now ZOS has not taken a stance that it breaks any rules.

    Edit. Misread this and thought it was about the trader thingy.

    It's not against TOS, but still not a kind thing to do. I you get a reputation for it then you'll likely not have many friends left.

    It's not against the TOS, but this is a social game where grouping is a necessity at times. If someone has so little concern for their good name that they would do this, the community will handle the situation even if ZOS does not technically have to step in.

    Ye old proverb: Given enough rope to hang himself. Or something like that.

    What I wanna know is... why can't he just earn gold legit? Or even steal from NPCs, no one cares about them lol.

    I don't even grind, or even play everyday, I just put motifs and such I don't want up for sale in average trader guilds and I usually have about 400K in my bank at all times. If he actually put some effort into grinding for stuff to sell, he could probably earn a hell of a lot more and he won't be hated.

    Here's a little trick. If you put someone on your ignore list, even on a second account, you can keep track of their @name changes with the notes function.

    It's especially helpful when you have a stalker or three that managed to find you in ESO.

    Once someone's identified the first time by a competent player, he's exposed until he buys a new account.

    Technically, this would be considered a scam because the gold was given in exchange for certain uses- bidding on traders, raffle prizes, etc.

    Scamming is against the TOS, so yes, if given enough reports, you would get in trouble.

    WHAT IF your guild master used the gold to buy electronic currency from a third party THEN used that currency to pay off a ghost guild to disband so they can have a guild trader spot?

    Find another leader.

    Don't let the guild die and take all the gold.

    By posting you seem like a decent person and know that ultimately this is the wrong thing to do. You'll end up regretting it and giving yourself a very bad name.

    According to the ToS, it is not allowed to:

    Take any action, organize, transmit any Content, effectuate or participate in any activity, group, or guild that is harmful, tortuous, abusive, hateful (including "hate speech"), racially, ethnically, religiously or otherwise offensive, obscene, threatening, bullying, vulgar, sexually explicit, defamatory, libelous, infringing, invasive of personal privacy or publicity rights, encourages conduct that would violate a law or is, in a reasonable person's view, objectionable and/or deemed to be in the sole discretion of ZeniMax inappropriate;

    and

    Engage in disruptive behavior in chat areas, game areas, forums, or any other area or aspect of the Services. Examples of disruptive behavior include, but are not limited to, conduct which interferes with the normal flow of gameplay or dialogue within a Service, vulgar language, abusiveness, hitting the return key repeatedly or inputting large images so the screen goes by too fast to read, use of excessive shouting [i.e., all text in capitals] in an attempt to disturb other users, "spamming" or flooding [i.e., posting repetitive text], commercial postings, solicitations and advertisements, posting advertising or promotional messaging, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or other commercial activities;

    Bold is added for emphasis.

    Addressing the first, I think that we are reasonable people here, and almost all of us find this behavior objectionable AND inappropriate.

    Addressing the second, the following is the basic definition of a pyramid scheme:
    a form of investment (illegal in the US and elsewhere) in which each paying participant recruits two further participants, with returns being given to early participants using money contributed by later ones.

    Based on that definition, I'd argue that forming a guild and soliciting donations on the premise that it will benefit and/or enrich the members who contribute (more donations mean better traders which means better cash flow/sales numbers), with the intent to then use the majority of those investments for personal enrichment, is a pyramid scheme. Members are relied upon to recruit, and eventually those at the bottom (below the founder in this case) end up with nothing for their trouble. Those who join last would not see any benefit for any investment, and those who join earlier get more benefit from the increased cash flow, until the founder pulls out and takes everything.

    You can be easily ostracized over it by the community. Name change tokens only cover your character names, not your account name. Hence why I have in game set to see only account names. You can change your character names/make new ones all you want, all I'll see is @********* and know to avoid you if anyone brings up your history.
