Smart Drops?

Has there ever been any discussion of introducing smart drops into the game?

I understand there are a lot of people who want to play a character their own way. For example a Sorc decked out in heavy armor, a Sorc running around with two weapons instead of the staff, or other shall we say, atypical examples like that. I play a typical Sorc in that I am not an Orc, I use light armor, and I use staffs even though that has been proven to be less effective than using two single handed weapons.

I can't even begin to tell you how frustrating it is for well over 75% of my drops to be insta garbage. If I am running my duel wield stamina assassin for example, I only want medium gear. I don't care at all about light or heavy gear and yet for some reason all I get are the wrong drops.

Like I said I understand some people want to play atypical builds, or they want to try something crazy and off the wall but it really stinks falling behind the curve with the One Tamriel scaling effect because I am constantly unable to find a piece of gear that is an upgrade for an average of 10 levels over what I am currently wearing. So for example I might be level 35 and am wearing a level 25 belt, or when I'm level 20 and using a level 10 helm.

I know about crafting but as a new player I don't have this unlocked yet to a point to be able to use it. I can't craft level 50 gear for example I can only craft level 35 gear, so I am constantly behind and fall further and further behind due to the scaling effect that was introduced. My 16,000 stamina are now only worth 13,000 or some such because I can't find the gear to stay current.

Has there ever been any talk about smart drops? I don't need every piece of gear that drops to be medium gear, and like I said I don't want to take away from others, but what would be wrong with a "weight" on the RNG table towards the prototypical build? Sorcs get light, dragon knights get heavy, etc. Or perhaps at character creation you can check a flag that weights gear towards whatever you want.

How do you guys get around this problem? Is it not a problem for others, it is just my junky RNG luck?

Thanks for the discussion.

Let it go. No point to discuss anything from level 1 to 50. Get a training gear for every 10 or 15 level and you are good to go. Or just use the looted gears.

There's an economy for that. Sell stuff, buy other stuff. The drops are actually around your level, but there's too much variety of weight/trait/enchantment to make it as tailored as you're requesting.

Crafting helps you have complete sets that match/synergize, but you'll still have the issue of outgrowing it during the levelling period before CP160. So you could theoretically leave it until then, except for the fact that you need to have already researched traits when you get there, and research takes time, not effort. You still want to do crafting on the account (not necessarily on the character) so that one of your alts can make what you need when you need it. Research as much as possible, and make good use of all those drops that don't suit you.

run 1 magika toon and 1 stam toon in parallel.

you can then swap the drops between them.

That would prevent people from farming gear for their alts.

But you really should be having that much difficulty with gear.

Each zone (and each group dungeon) will drop 1 Light set, 1 Medium set and 1 Heavy set. Figure out which set you want. Figure out where it drops and go there.

If it's from a dungeon, tell your group members you are looking for that set and see if people will swap gear with you at the end.

Most of the overland sets are pretty cheap to buy from guild traders as well, with a few exceptions.

The standardizing of the gear sets across regions was one of the best things they introduced with One Tamriel.

Another thing to keep in mind is that even if you are not going to use the set, vendoring gives you gold and deconstructing it levels your crafting. So nothing is really wasted.

Sadly ZOS did implement a version of this in the last year or 2. Somehow this system is the best they could do (cut into time to create Crown items I guess).
