Special Weapons just recieved another big nerf.

With 2handers counting as 2 slots. Special weapons got even weaker. Are ZoS intending to upgrade their strength to still make em viable after Summerset? I cant see them being used by anyone if theese Changes goes through. Its alot of content that just got worthless to run (vma/vdsa/asylum trial).

    So many of those special weapons have been in need of re-tuning for a long time. Even some of the new Asylum weapons have been useless since release.
    This will only make the problem worse.

    and alot more that will skip it. i would never gone through the Learning curve to be able to complete and farm vma unless it was a weapon at the end that was BiS. now its nowhere near BiS, its just a Trophy with theese Changes.

    They are generally on par with dualwield/one hand+shield options already, and it's still possible to run front/back bar sets.

    Still going to run Maelstrom Bow on my back bar, but I may play around with Two hand on the front bar instead of DW. I won't loose any set bonus from trying it!

    Seems to me like a passive way to slowly phase them out... in preparation for a gear level CP increase!!!!

    Make them undesirable so people won't be as mad when they are useless.

    To be fair, the "nerf" is that those slots now count as two pieces for set bonuses, so you have more build options.

    I like the change, no longer will I need to mindlessly farm that hell hole for the weapon I need, and my ice staff tank can have 5/5/2 now

    I totally agree with this change.

    But, yes, all Special Weapons need a buff.

    In my view,

    Special Weapons = Monster Sets (Helm + Shoulders).

    So, yes, they need to come back with the first effect.

    But I'm in favor of a pattern.
    Or it will be Weapon/Spell Damage for all Weapons, or it will be Max Stamina/Magicka for all Weapons.

    Other set possibilities getting buffed does not automatically equate to other sets getting nerfed.

    As with every build, it will be a design decision each person will have to make.

    If you're backbarring, it will still end up buffing overall. If you're running a unique set on each bar, you'll have a choice to make.
    Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

    Like many people, I quickly saw the argument that basically these staffs and bows are now competing with 2-piece monster sets.

    However, 5-5-2 still has to be better than:
    • 5 piece set
    • 3 pieces of a set that gives Minor Slayer
    • 2 piece monster set
    • Arena weapon

    Seems like a kind of yes and no. If using both front and back bar special weapons there may be better options to use a front bar set weapon.

    Doesn’t help my Maelstrom Bow/ Masters greatsword combo, but I could switch the greatsword to Hundings instead of using DW.

    Many players using a Moondancer or Infal staff will now see the full 5 piece bonus of both sets.

    This is great for options as I love using 2H and most times only rock daggers to complete a set.

    Just buff agility/willpower etc and other 3 piece jewelry sets a bit and we're good to go.

    A nice easy update to these weapon sets would be to add an additional stat bonus to the set piece bonus. Masters weapons used to give raw stats and MA weapons used to give weapon/spell damage. They could add these back to the set bonuses to make the weapons more viable/interesting.

    If you’re using a set like acuity then it won’t. You can still apply everything on back bar and proc acuity on front bar for full damage.

    But say we find out that 5 necro 5 julianos, 2 ilambris or Zaan out preforms acuity pared with anything. Now using a back bar maelstrom staff means sacrificing either 300 spell damage or 4k max magica on on everything that’s cast on back bar.

    vMA Destro backbar will probably still be BiS. Same with Maelstrom bow. Really this nerfs any of the two handed that you would potential frontbar.

    I think they should give them their set bonus back, so 1k magicka or 129 weapon damage. Not back to the full 189 weapon damage that Maelstrom 2H used to have though.

      It would be sad if they leave these weapons in current state. Regular set weapons would then be giving two bonuses while the special weapons only give one. This is a complete reversal to how it was 6 months ago; if it was a problem for this imbalance to exist before, then it is a problem now right?

      who cares? As far as I am concerned this opens up FAR MORE build diversity than those "special weapons" ever offered...this actually changes the meta. I do agree that vMA, masters, and asylum weapons should probably be buffed as well, but given the choice between the 2, I would much prefer this change.

      A lot of magicka bis sets are a proc so you don’t need the 5 pc active on both bars. vMA destros will likely still be the go to. Stamina, which already has regular access to 5/5/2, likely won’t see a change either. It’s possible that double barring hundings would be better than the vma bow, but I doubt it.

      On the other hand, I agree that if ability altering weapons don’t see a buff, I doubt the currently underused 2h/bow variants will be any more viable if you’re still sacrificing a 5 pc bonus to use them. Also I could see perfected destro staffs going out of use (as well as masters for anyone who still uses that), depending on the build. I can’t test rn obviously, but I’m guessing moondancer procs with a monster set is stronger than guaranteed status procs. Perfected staves may become a new mag buff role meta tho haha
