Crown Store will likely limit this, especially the crates, but like i other MMO's, certain end game bosses in dungeons, world bosses and super rare enemies could drop a really neat and rare mount.
WoW did this a lot, as did Rift. FFXIV, too.
Would be nice and add more of a carrot to dungeons/trials, maybe.

It kept the game fun/fresh/relevant and the worlds full of people forever. It helped the experience feel rewarding and personal. Then the mobile market and micro-transactions happened (insert doom music here) so we will likely never see a game do that well ever again in all honesty. There is far too much money to be made through nickel and dime-ing people to death now days...or in ZOS' case, 50's and hundreds-ing people to death.
I do agree with you though and I rreeaalllyyy miss the older days of MMO's. I will absolutely get pooped on for this post though because people have been assimilated to a different gaming culture and will defend it with their little virtual lives unfortunately (often without having ever experienced the older culture too lol).
This will only happen if the market shifts...and that is not happening anytime soon.
