What makes ESO the best MMORPG you've ever played?

It's not the best I've ever played. Personally I preferred Earth & Beyond and early days SWToR.

What makes it the best in the market today though:
    1. Combat is far more interesting than WoW's (which is also fairly typical of the market).
    2. Existing content doesn't get outdated by new expansions. I like that it keeps the entire game feeling available.
    3. It's growing, there are almost no MMOs which can say that.

For me it's the big keep battles in Cyro, I know so many ppl hate zerg PvP but if a fairly even fight I love it, ppl dieing all around you, siege being used, assassins taking out the enemy to hamper them, castle walls crumbling with a horde of enemies rushing through to eventually being beaten back. A last minute save from a force riding fast to the keep and crashing into the enemy.

Yes organised voice chat unkillable zerg balls can ruin it at times and the terrible lag that hits and God those loading screens make me cry but I love the chaos and unpredictable gameplay that Cyro can create and I play a few hours most nights on different classes throughout the week.

Never Played WoW. I was wandering around in LOTRO for about 2 years before this came along. I've tried several MMO's but none of them held my attention for as long as LOTRO had, though Skyforge came close.

I like lizards and felines, and keep coming back to waste my time doing basic tasks in this game on and off since it's launch. I can't quit this addiction. Eventually the withdraw gets to me.

Pre Luclin Everquest is the by far the best MMO I have ever played, and probably ever will. That game was drenched in atmosphere. It had clever graphic design, huge zones to traverse and zone specific music which really gave zones character, something that ESO is sorely lacking. Also its integration of factions, epic weapon quests, varied races as well as loads of classes, again something ESO is lacking.

I'd say ESO is the best current MMO because I enjoy the quests and lore and the game has good graphics. Also a solid crafting system. For me they are its only real strengths though.

Housing and player customisation no 2 players will look the same and ESOs open world PvP sets this game apart and that makes this game great.

thats about it from a questing and PVE side of things this game is straight boring other than vet trials and DLC dungeons and there are frankly better games and MMOs that do PvE stuff better.

Its not, Star Wars Galaxies was, but then Sony bought it and drove it into the sun. Guess the Jedi didnt manage to stop the plain meld 0_o

    Best current MMO, because
    - Good graphics
    - Not hyper sexualized
    - Any class any role. Really mean this one. Yes some classes are better at roles, but other MMO you cant even pick a roll because your X class, or X race. That's just dumb.
    - Resource management instead of cooldowns.
    - Story telling. I've been playing for a year, and not a single "Go here, kill "x" squirrels" rinse and repeats quest. Do wish there was a little more to it. Like NPC dont tell me to kill you sister because she was turned into vampire when I'm one too. Especially give how obvious vampires are.

Very rarely do I see somebody that remembers SWG. SWG was my first MMO. Pre CU Jedi holocron grinding takes me back. People complain about grinding in games now. They have no idea what grinding is when compared to that.

It's not the best for me, I played fallen earth before ESO which totally fell apart with a horrible and I mean HORRIBLE dev team and company.

The pvp in eso is decent because of population size, however I feel less coordinated and meaningless. I had friends that joined beta and left during IC. They came back a month ago to see how the game changed in pvp and said, "ok, so they added a couple of battle ground maps" and left. In fallen earth, Each map had a pvp zone, which contributed toward global territory control, giving increase exp, increased gold and even a "home"

Factions mattered for that reason, between the five we were constantly "fighting" over control. The pvp zones also had slightly more rare nodes particular to zones. So some factions tried to hold on to zones or even large pvp guilds to help boost their guild or faction.

The zones had keeps that sold rare items, though the dev team had wrong items in them meant for characters of higher levels. The keeps doors could be upgraded to different strengths. This would be similar to the towns in ESO

There were harvesters in which you could over three hours produce nodes. They start slow and gain speed. They were outside of the keeps or flags and could be raided.

Some zones had "rare item drops" that were announced in zone chat. It was always fun to try and swoop in and get it.

The pve far surpasses Fallen Earth in terms of dungeon content and trials. Yet fallen earth had player craftable cities. It was really just several predesigned buildings, all with buffs or for a purpose. The town was raided once and hour and increased in difficulty depending on the size of the town and amount of players. It became a big player hub.

The crafting in eso is mediocre. This is sad because in a time of sandbox games and large crafting options, eso really fell short. IMO, they tried to do a traditional MMO the best the could without being highly innovative, which they generally still lack to do. For example, having rare item drops, escort pvp missions, races, craftable building areas ect.

I feel here the dev and content team do try to listen to members within the community and are active. LIve shows, press releases, they explain what they are trying to do ect. (remember, it's not like we as a "community" have consensus on what's best for the game) They are always coming out with new content and there is nothing that is p2w.

    Graphics the game looks great

Lore, ESO's greatest strength is it's a part of TES.

OP usually your threads are bad, but I quite like this one.

Anyways, what makes this the best MMORPG for me is that it's an Elder Scrolls game, and it's got Elder Scrolls lore. Being a total lore-nerd, it's great when a game introduces new and more lore.
The people also are making this game more fun. The guild I joined a week or two ago really has been having a positive effect on me lately.

Oh also, it doesn't have Gender/race locked classes. Looking at you TERA. Honestly, it's one of the worst decisions you could make for a game.

    • Constant flow of content

Writing and quests. Some people spend their time trying to get past this stuff as fast as possible, in the true tradition of an MMO, but there are a lot of stories in this game that really should not be ignored.

I will also add the Elder Scrolls universe (Lore), which I think serves as a check and balance system to keep the game from turning into a lore free-for-all, like a huge, old, MMO that I will not mention. Doing what is expected from Lore, instead of just tossing in whatever is popular and profitable, builds integrity, in my eyes.

I know that combat gets a bad reputation due to balance, but honestly, the combat system is a powerful reason to play. It is leagues above the game I did not mention above.

Agreed, SWG was great pre-CU/NGE. Sadly companies go for themepark MMORPGs rather than sandbox MMORPGs like SWG and UO these days.

ESO is a good themepark MMORPG, but it lacks the true sandbox feeling. What makes it great for me is the lore.

Hehe give it some more time ;).

In terms of the oversexualization of games I don't necessarily get mad because of how they are depicted but more so that it's unrealistic. Who is going to go into battle half naked? it just makes no sense.

When the weapon you wield is magic, death is only temporary, and you put invisible shields around yourself, cover gear doesn't mean anything. Obviously no one in the real world would go into battle like that, but this is fantasy, which usually has many people running to the front line half naked. It makes total sense in this world.

If they fixed the broke-ass lag spikes, rubber banding, and graphics hitching, it would be one of the best on the market.

Unfortunately since all of the above listed have been a 'Feature' since release; with the addition on of B2P and gamble boxes, it is merely one amongst a score of MMO's on the market.
I'm not prejudiced; I hate everyone equally !

In my honest opinion it is also kinda like a complete package....
BDO has better combat but rest of it is bad and grindy.
WOW has crown items and a lot more contents but combat is bad.

      For me it’s:
      1. Lore - i love the deep level of lore. Tamriel feels real with a complex history and variety of societies.
      2. Connected to this is story telling - the quests are engaging. Of course there are a few fetch quests but the main stories, alliance zone quests and DLC are engaging.
      3. It’s beautuful
      4. One Tamriel - bring able to play in any zone at any time gives so much freedom and a huge improvement on the original system.
      5. Solo friendly
