It would make the game feel a whole lot less clunky, and more intuitive to navigate. One of the big advantages to playing on a PC has always been the breadth of options available to the player for input, and frankly It's a shame that most of that functionality is being thrown to the wayside, since in respect to the UI, KB is currently used mostly to initially open the UI panels, and certain prompts like E for Equip, R to withdraw, X to leave group etc.
As an example of what I'm talking about, when I open the UI and it takes me to the last panel I viewed, or the first in the list (inventory), it should be possible for me to navigate the inventory list as well as change to the different categories without having to reach for the mouse. How you ask? With the direction keys. A simple click on the right arrow key could, and frankly? it should navigate to the menu option directly to the right of the current selection. And from there, if one wishes to expand upon that list? one would need only only to click the down arrow. Expand the wrong one? click back up to begin navigating the menu options again.
This sort of functionality, combined with support for browsing and manipulating inventory lists (character inventory, bank etc.) from the keyboard, as well as a dual inventory view for things like player and guild banks, trader/player inventories would make the game a lot more enjoyable, and take quite a bit of the pain out of inventory management,
As an aside, there are a few daunting lists besides inventory lists, to sort through in the game. Vis-à-vis furnishings. If I want to look over what I can craft and what it looks like, I have to go to the crafting station and select it with the mouse to and hit T to preview. Not bad, particularly due to the fact that there's a fancy and helpful function where, once in "preview mode", it stays in preview mode so when I select the next item in the list it's automatically previewing. It's great, but the simple fact that I have to track place in the list as well as select the objects in the list, using a mouse makes it a terribly inefficient process which is quite insufferable.
Furthermore, while clicking through that long list of furnishings it's possible, probable actually; since we're talking about anywhere from dozens to hundreds of items in a list, to skip over an unknown number, it's also easier to lose your place, and myriad other annoyances. Truly just inefficient, which frankly defeats the purpose of not playing on console.
Don't get me wrong-- I get it, first world problems and all that-- these are grievances that could easily brushed off as minor annoyances and likely will be by many. but when you consider the impact they all have in unison? How often the little mishaps, like misclicks while trying to browse the list of 100+ furnishings, it adds up to something that's kind of frustrating.
