I mean people just say this because ... I dunno, they parrot stuff that a lot of people believed to be true in 2016 ... but anyone was has actually paid attention to how the game developed since then (read: people not insinuating sorcs are OP in this patch) would make a different class.
Sure, back in Nov 2015 when VMA was released, I was all over the mag sorc for getting my complete because;
- Frags stunned and did more damage
- Shields lasted 20 seconds
- The destro ultimate did not exist and Overload could store 1000 ultimate
- Power surge could almost refill an entire health bar just from a single crit
- And other things that changed that made them the obvious choice
Sorcerer now would be my last pick to farm vMA because its skills just aren't very good for the content any more, it's a flimsy class you have to spam a shield every 6 seconds, and the best thing it offers are its pets which are boring/ take up too many slots. Any other class with even a poor score will get you on the leaderborads and free gold weapons, meanwhile, you need to have an excellent and highly competitive score to get on with a sorc. It would be a lot more efficient to run vMA with every class except your sorc.

It's rare that I disagree with you on much, but mSorc is still my first recommendation for a first timer through VMA. Every thing you said is of course correct, and they certainly dont have the advantages they used to. That said, sorc double pet builds allow you to simply heavy attack your way through VMA. The pets draw tons of aggro, you have a great burst heal on command, and you do plenty of DPS. If your goal was to push the least amount of buttons in a VMA clear, I think sorc would be on top, and that is arguably what's best for a first timer.
All that said, there is of course a difference between the best to complete and the best to farm once you know the place.

Somehow my sorc does not make 15k DPS spamming heavy attack. Actually, spamming heavy attack is a sure recipe to get slowed down and insta-killed by one of 1 billion stuns + knockdown + 20k damage "meteors" (or anything else) that rain all over the last stage.
