What other games in the modern era with a mail system don't have a reply button?

Really? If I want to respond to someone sending me mail, the ONLY way for me to respond to them is to type in their (usually convoluted) gamertag manually, or find them in a guild/friend roster if they're in there? Zenimax, come on. Are you professionals or not?

I agree. There is a difference between wanting a "minimal" UI and having a very archaic UI. Adding one more button for a quick reply, or a search field for the guild store won't break the UI feel. There are a lot of very basic features that they can add to this game to bring it up to par and still keep the minimalist UI feel.

Call me Insane, I find it more "Professional and appropriate" to type someone's name {Gametag} every time in order to reply

Personally for me a thing of insignificant importance. It drains away few seconds of my Game-Play. Reply button or not ~ Irrelevant.

There are legitimately 20-year-old MMORPGs out there with vastly superior mail systems. And player store search functionality.

I love this game, I really do, but large portions of it feel lazy, sloppy, or ineptly designed - or all three. It often seems to me that ZOS relies far, far too much on addons to add functionality that should have been there from the start.

Yeah, the tags of anyone in a guild or friends list.

Try being in a massive active trade guild and a large PvE/PvP guild and see how useful that becomes if someone has a common starting name.

I believe both issues (miserable trading interface and lack of reply button) are related to bots and the need to make things difficult for botting "players".

I also think that no matter how ZOS would improve those, people would still complain and expect the trading interface to be like Amazon's, the mailing system to be like Outlook, the character customization interface to be like Photoshop's or the combat information system to be like Excel charts. And so on...

Also remember that the alpha version of the game had a minimap, and the released base game had none, and still has none. Choices were made for an absolutely minimal, non invasive UI, in order to comply with the expectations of people playing "immersively" like you could in the solo TES games.

Not saying this is the truth (I'm only guessing), and not saying those choices are appropriate. Just trying to explain.

I would also like to see these things (reply button and guildstore search) added. I use an add-on for the latter, but I shouldn't have to and anyway, where does that leave the console players who don't have that option???

Given the number of bot spam messages I got in the early days of the game, it didn't work very well if that was the case.

I'm in several large active guilds. So far it hasn't been an issue, though YMMV on whether that's because its not actually a problem or whether I just don't mail people with common beginnings to their names enough.

ZOS and their infinite stupidity (errr wisdom... nah stupidity works best lol), the entire UI is generally quite stupid and lacking of many basic features from games/MMO's that are well over a decade old! I could never play on console because I need addons to make the game and UI bearable. Lack of search or any proper organization to the guild stores is beyond stupid, lack of a reply button for mail is just as stupid, the whole minimalist UI is also ridiculous, the lack of giving us the options for some UI features could have made the minimalist crowd happy (which is what they went for, the minimalists only) but could have made it better for the non-minimalist and majority crowd!

These issues and more have been talked about and complained about since before launch but ZOS doesn't listen. Look what happened to FFXIV when SquareEnix didn't listen, the entire game had to be scrapped and re-released. Now ESO is nowhere near the garbage that the original FFXIV was (ARR though was well done and I still flip between ESO AND FFXIV:ARR depending on my mood) but FFS ZOS you need to listen more to the players! Their is more stuff too but I can't be bothered to remember them all since I've been using so many addons for so long.

I forgot there isn't a reply button in base game. LOL This game wouldn't be worth playing without add-ons. Poor consoleros.
