Heavy-Armor Templar Healer (PvE)

So by now we’ve had the meta violently shoved down our throats. SPC + Worm/Mending/Jorvukds. BOOORRRIIINNNNGG!!!

I offer a new “meta.” Templar’s, historically, and their fantasy lore counterpart (the Cleric) are heavy armor wielding bastions of light. The two archetypes that you can’t afford to lose in a fight are the tank and the healer. My Templar healer is an Argonian, and I sit at around 20k health, 33k Mag, and around 2300 regen. But even with all my healing might, I’m still nothing more than a glorified squishy (hardly what one would envision as a Cleric).

Enter a new type of healer (cue bad ass hard rock). The light bends to HIS will. He is the staff in the darkness, the watcher on the walls, the holy fire that burns away the shadow!.

Guardian Build:

-5 PC Ulfnor’s Favor + 5 Pc SPC (jewels/waist/bracers) + Master resto/lightning (or ice) destro

Why ice? - Because as a Templar, you have channeled focus. Standing inside of it gives Magicka regen. Blocking with an Ice staff does not eliminate the regen you receive from the focus, only your characters static regen from gear/cp. This does not remove your ability to proc off-balance (via the lightning staff). Charged frost staff with a lightning enchant can still proc with decent regularity. Now you can snare enemies, have a lesser but still viable chance to proc off-Balance, and have the option of blocking with the ice staff.

5 Pc Heavy Armor:

Ulfnor’s Favor:

2 items) Adds 129 Magicka Recovery
(3 items) Adds 129 Stamina Recovery
(4 items) Adds 4% Healing Taken
(5 items) Increases the Magicka or Stamina your Heavy Attacks restore by 30

*Why? Because you’ll be losing Magicka recovery by switching to heavy armor. However, you’ll gain the heavy armor passive Rapid Mending (heavy attacks restore 25% more resources). This, coupled with the restoration staff passive Cycle of Life (heavy attack restore 30% more Magicka). You are able to make-up for the Magicka regen by generating an absurd amount of Magicka each heavy attack. I can bring my bar, still with 33-34k Magicka, nearly back to full off of one heavy attack.

I included SPC because it is a very strong set, and perfectly suited for healers in every way. This build can also provide an off-tank on demand. Decide to do VSO HM part way through, tank healer can hold Lamia/Manticora. Tank drops out of trial? Off-tank on demand slides into action (will need skill points in S/B). This of course isn’t viable in DLC Trials (though, our tank was (we found out) new, and went down constantly to last boss VAS. I tossed inner fire and a s/b on, and effectively held the boss (roll dodging the hell outta that fight) and was able to seamlessly pass aggro back to tank, and I returned to my support function.
