I only bought the banker to place in my home. My home has a real merchant right outside (Mathiisen Manor), so I can just walk out of the doors to repair and sell stuff after a dungeon/trial run.

I have to admit though that there have been times where I'm running multiple dungeons in a row (6 key runs for example) and some of my characters get over encumbered with the amount of loot, so I end up trashing a lot of white weapons and armor to make room for better items.

But I figure that I'd prefer to keep my 5k crowns and deal with inventory space every now and then.

Did that for a long, long time and when I finally caved and bought the merchant, I was nicely surprised by how much those whites added up to. I regret not caving in sooner.

That's fair, but it's only occasionally that I run into inventory issues. Also some friends that I run with already have the merchant so even when I do run into inventory issues, I can just mooch off of them.

It's only when I'm running with a PUG that I have to trash white items (usually keep an eye not to trash ornate, though).

Heh, that works too. :) I generally am out there solo when doing my crafting/farming runs so it's nice to be able to not have to hit a town. How spoilt are we? LOL

    I know, right?

I have Nuzimeh and she’s great. Nothing better than farming and not having to go back to a city to vendor stuff (or wait until one of the mobile merchants comes along). It’s especially handy in dungeon runs. I won’t be getting the banker though until it’s a different NPC model than Tythis Andromo.

Ive found the banker to be a lot more useful, especially with alts. The merchant has its uses, again with alts, where I don’t bother upgrading my inventory size. They help save gold that way. But, without a repair function, the merchant isn’t all that great.

    Hell no...but yes :(

It will save you tons of time in the long run, so if you play any decent amount or have multiple alts, it kinda pays for itself, I suppose.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

I held off on the merchant for a long time - and then I found myself with a bunch of ESO+ crowns to spend and nothing I liked in several months of showcases, so I caved.

So worth it. Nothing was more frustrating than being knee deep in a dungeon/delve/something - especially Old Orsinium!!! - and getting the dread "inventory full" message. I'd waste 10 minutes porting out going to the merchant, porting back and getting back to where I was. It sounds petty - but when you're running an bonus scroll or ambrosia, that's XP ticking....

I have the banker. He is certainly worth it. The merchant I plan get someday. A sale would push me toward making the purchase.

The merchant is worth it if you farm dungeons, dolmens, etc. The time you save by not having to head into town to sell trash really adds up.

The banker is definitely worth it if you have alts and need to move items from one character to another.

Yes, it's expensive, but if you save up until the next crown sale or half-off sale, you'll be glad you did.

The real thrill is when you're selling to your merchant and she runs off, yearning to explore the world. Be free, Nuzimeh! Spread your wings and fly!

Buy the Banker first. Way more helpful. I have both and I use the banker a billion times more than the merchant.

    That said, I wish:

The banker (Tythis) could: access guild banks, access guild stores
    The merchant (N...evermind) could: repair

Pretty simple asks, IMO. For 10k crowns total, this shouldn't be out of the question.

I got the banker and was saving up for the merchant (only have my 1500 monthly crown allowance).
What I found is that I tend to go back to towns pretty often due to quests so I unload my crap there.
Also found that there are many, many traveling merchants and I stop to sell/repair.
Plus I've been upgrading my bag space.

So I decided I really didn't need the merchant after all.
But the banker was worth every crown.

Is there a "fee" when using merchant/banker?

I worked my tail off to get the fence from Thieves Guild only to be kicked in the potatoes when I saw there was a "fee for service" on the "gift" of having a portable fence.

I debated on the Merchant for awhile and finally grabbed him. I am really glad that I did. Especially with leveling up new characters it saved me a lot of time running back (I didn't always need the repair, but my bags were full.)

It was worth it for me!

Another point on getting the banker:

If you're the kind of person who decons everything (like me), he's way more helpful in dealing with dungeon loot than the merchant. Mid-questing, just pop him up and dump your inventory into your bank. Keep going til you run out of space. Then find crafting tables (in town or the wild) and decon all the crap in your bank and inventory all at once. Enjoy all your new mats.

Whomever you get, though, be sure to quickslot him/her/them. Soo much easier than the Collections menu. Can use them right btwn mobs if necessary.

So being as I paid less than half price for the crowns (and had a 20% off PSN code) if I got the merchant it would only be like spending roughly 2000-2500 crowns. Not bad me thinks.
PS4/NA player here - I bought on-sale crowns and sunk them into a Merchant and Banker. No regrets. Sure, if you group up a lot it's possible that someone else in your group has them but it's nice to be autonomous in this game and not have to rely on others. Merchant and Banker when leveling up a new character in a public dungeon (while an XP boost timer is running) are very useful IMHO.

The merchant is mostly useful providing you a way to free up bag space and get gold for it, (versus just destroying items), when going back to town isn't worth the loadscreens, e.g. like when running trials.

I have both, and any character not in PVP has them slotted. And that's with 200 bag space and ESO+. Being able to pick up everything you see and not have to run into town will simultaneously make you a lot of money and save you a lot of time.

Heck, I pull up my banker at the writ dropoff in Belkarth instead of running across town to the bank because it's quicker.

I don't have the merchant but I did get the banker mostly to have as an NPC in my house next to the storage crates: it makes inventory and bank management much easier when the bank and storage crates are together.

And as long as you don't have your bank full, you can just clear your inventory into the bank out in the wild. IMO, more useful overall than the merchant.

Absolutely agree with the banker being invaluable for doing writs. He makes it possible to do writs on 10 toons in 30ish minutes. (Sorry to the OP for all my banker fanboi-ing.)

Is the merchant worth 5000 crowns? *shrug* If you've got the crowns to spare, she can be helpful. I don't regret buying her.

Merchant and banker are totally worth it. Can't tell you how many times I run out of space. Easy to summon the merchant to sell the the junk and the banker to store the decon stuff for my crafter. Space problem solved.

She’s super useful if you run dungeons a lot or trials . Makes it easier to just pick up your loot and go .
Yes tend to do trial maraton with the 3 Craglorn ones an perhaps nmol on top.
However in trial group some tend to have both
Grinding just make you go in circles.

Its actually only worth it if youre really heavy into grinding/farming. It lets you sell items you dont want/need while remaining out in the open world to get as much of what youre seeking as you can. Otherwise its not worth the price if youre not going to regularly take advantage of it.

I sub and get tons of crowns for it. Since I don't buy cosmetics from the store, I have tons of extra crowns. Banker and Merchant are basically free with ESO+. Definitely a good deal.
