The Psijic Skill Line - let's discuss...

So ZOS already showed us these three skills out of the Psijic skill line. Already two more skills have been datamined last month:

Rich said the skill line will have 5 active skills, 5 passive skills and 1 Ultimate.

No passives or the 5th active skill have been datamined yet. Overall the skill line sounds interesting but looks quite underwhelming. Rich said it's a combat skill line but it most likely just contains CC and buffs / debuffs yet. Is there more to come? It just looks a bit boring... like a mixture of Sorcerer's Dark Magic line paired with some buffs (Infused Weapon sounds like Surge/Siphoning Attacks/Igneous Weapons and Meditate sounds like a fusion of Restoring Aura/Dragon Blood/Dark Deal). And what could the passive skills be? Hard to imagine at the moment imho. Don't get me wrong, I really like the idea of a Psijic skill line. My problem here is that it looks like a "gimmick" skill line without something substantial (like Meteor, Mage Light or Beast Trap).

I mean the Warden hasn't been that great of a class either but it still was an entire class with 15 active skills, 3 Ultimates and 12 passive skills. That's three times the amount of the Psijic skill line.

    Don't really need extra offense skills. But these CCs and ults can be very significant.

    We already know of 5 skills and 3 of them are explained. I think we can discuss them (and possible passives) prior to their implementation.

    Your standards seem to be pretty high in general. I mean, if the skills WERE all that great that they replaced the already strong skills that every class and weapon has available, then we'd all be running around as psijic clones.

    If I use just 1 skill from this skill line (it looks like i'll be using the ultimate), then its a huge plus and game changer for me that opens up a new world of meta.

    What if the mending ability allows me to have self-sustaining healing without having to use a resto staff? What if infused weapon adds an empower-esque ability to the next strike, or has a similar ability to siphoning strikes that also stacks?

    I'm quite excited to be honest.

    The thing you need to understand is this is zenimax's answer to making classes that can do all rolls.

    If they change class abilities, people will get justifibly angry about their classes identity being erased or change.

    Therefor, the only way to handle it is to give that functionality, through independant skill lines, which Zenimax is now doing. It's the right decision.

    And simply put, what will be 'interesting' is likely going to be ineffective. lI'd rather have it this way.

    Personally, I'm hoping self-healing ability is buffed so that healtanks, and somewhat active ones, can finally exist.

    Since the strength of these will be very much determined by ability cost, duration and actual effects I do think a discussion is premature. At the very least there shouldn’t be “sky is falling” or “omg PvP is ruined” postings. We do not know enough yet for that.

    I like the idea of becoming a member of the Psijic Order but more from a lore perspective. They are the "founders" of spell-based magic as it's known today. They also have been counselors to countless kings and rulers. So I also half expect a ton of new lorebooks and when it comes to passive skills I could imagine manipulative communication like we find it with the Mages and Fighter Guild persuade/intimidate abilities.

    What I'd also like to see is some other "fancy" stuff like Eidetic Memory or a buff based on the number of lorebooks you have discovered. I know it's a bit rough on the edges ideawise but these are just that: ideas.

    Ah yes, and a purchasable home on Artaeum in Psijic style please. B)

    Tbh original skills always sound underwhelming. Morphs is what doing skills pretty, we need to know those to see how perform coz morphs can change skills drastically.
    For now Time Stop sounds like aoe snare+aoe root, something that Templar lack so for Templar pov it sound usefull.
    Meditate - resorce restore skills always desirable. Again, depends on what morphs are doing coz in actual combat you cant stand still and cast restores, same as sorcs couldn't use old Dark Deal that root them on 1 place coz it inevitable death. It can be from something very usefull to something very useless like Equilibrium.
    Very interested in Infused Weapon - if it will be another source of major offensive buffs and something like short berserk buff.

    So time stop freezes people in place, probably AOE based, and meditate sounds like it has a cast time. Both very interesting. Can't forget undo. Sounds like shade ability for non night lades with more risk + less control.

    Wouldn't matter any way, none look like offensive spells that would scale off max stat. I'm sure if the skill line was that beneficial to Stam characters you could afford a bit more mag recovery, you get all resources back after casting one of these utility type skills so you can sacrifice stam recovery.

    Curious how Undo will work with a dk tank. Do you get the dk resources with what you had 4 seconds ago, or is the dk passive wasted due to the change in time.

    Either way, seems like a great oh *** button for tanks.

    Meditate.

    lol I did this to Silence in Skyrim, I found it too stupid having two perks that gave muffled movement so I changed Muffled from .50 to 1.0 so it would give full silence effect then I changed "Silence to Endurance" made it give 25% recovery to Stamina, Magicka, and Health while you were Sneaking. I found myself Sneaking more frequently when my stats were depleted...

    Meditate - to be more like Templar Restoring Aura, Regen for all 3 for the skill. Which would actually make it a lot like Mage Light

    Time Stop - This could actually be frigging amazing. IF this gives all classes Talons/Gripping Shards, well thats a huge step back in the in class any role directions. Actually if Meditate Stamina return while blocking, it would again be a huge step (Helping Hands passive?)

    Undo - Not sure what to think on this one. I feel like its going to be the same kind of penalty as Balance. Still, could be powerful if you use this right behind a particularly heavy burn, to build resources back up.

    As for data minded
    Infused Weapons - could be the buff MagWarden needs to get into DPS range. They already have an un-crowded bar with badly synced skills.

    Mending - Probably just a heal. Maybe as good as a mag version of Vigor?


    To be honest though, neither Fighters, Undaunted or Mages guild are that great either. Between them all, Dawn Breaker, Shooting Star, Inner Light, Beast Trap, Orbs, and Inner Fire. 15 skills and 6 of them are worth while. Maybe 2 more in certain kinds of builds.

    Plus Jewelry Crafting, is that not on the order of a whole new class?

    When I heard "combat skill line" I was hoping for some DPS skills as well. We already know that 4/6 are not meant for DPS. Infused Weapons sounds like a buff so there is only one skill left that could possible be a damage spell.

    I usually don't cry for nerfs. And yes I am disappointed because the datamined / revealed skills are all pretty underwhelming and not really useful for (endgame) PvE.

    To me it depends on whether the skills are only magicka or also have stam morphs. Stam sorc could make use of some of these perhaps. We shall see. As is we don’t have many options for CC outside of the the 2H line. Defensive runs is ok but costs a lot of mag. We really need some abilities that cost stamina, obviously it doesn’t seem like that will be the case with these but we can hope.
