Issues with Game Freezing on Windows 10

Greetings

I recently upgraded my PC from Windows 8 to Windows 10 and replaced the hard drive. My old hard drive was also connect as extra space but that led to my PC freezing randomly. I have no idea if this stopped because Microsoft fixed it with an update or because I formatted my old hard drive and erased the old Windows 8 files. Everything else runs smoothly now...

Except for Elder Scrolls Online. It still freezes randomly and I have to turn off my PC - ctrl alt del doesn't work, neither does alt+F4. My keyboard basically "turns off" and there's nothing I can do other than hit the power button.

I never had this problem on Windows 8 and upgrading to Windows 10 and replacing my hard drive are the only things that I changed.
I run the game with administrator permissions.
I use the Windows Defender that came with for antivirus and I have set all the relevant permissions.
I tried the game in compatibility mode with Windows 8 and the game was so choppy (not quite laggy) that I couldn't play.

Are there compatibility issues between ESO and Windows 10? Any tips?

Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day.

I had that same problem and had to hard restart just like you. I googled the problem and someone said to delete the ShaderCache.cooked file. I tried that and it worked for me. I now delete that file on a regular basis. You can find the file in Documents/ElderScrollsOnline/live.

Thank you very much. I will give that a try.

After deleting the file, does the game create a new version by itself or do I need to download it?

this isnt the game not responding. ctrl-alt-del not working is windows not responding.

i had major issues with the win10 1709 update, still do with power management. it screwed a lot of things. i recall reading something about graphics drivers and windows installing something for the onboard graphics when its not needed and that breaking something. i dont know if thats causing your issue but its something to look at. just because you arent using onboard graphics, doesnt mean windows doesnt have the files and device loaded.

A new file will be created by the game. You can delete it as often as you like.
