Tips to get caltrops quick?

For fun I am using the skill advisor to level a stamina warden and it’s recommending caltrops. Now, I am completely ignorant when it comes to PvP. My heart lies with dungeon running.

With that being said, does anyone have some good tips for getting caltrops relatively quickly? My character is a Khajiit stamina warden, level 46, using a bow/bow build and all medium armor (found while leveling).

Also, are there any good substitutes for caltrops?

If you aren't comfortable in Cyrodiil, I would run Battlegrounds matches. You'll get 7k AP for losing and 12k AP for winning, which is a pretty good rate of AP gain.

If you are comfortable in Cyrodiil, I'd join up with the zerg and run with the zerg for a couple of days. I find it takes me several days of running for a couple hours a day to get my alliance war skills and I'm pretty comfortable in Cyrodiil.

Either way, I recommend impenetrable trait armor. That gives you some protection from critical hits. Them be prepared to die a lot. I've been PVPing for over a year now and I still die a lot. Its just part of the game.

Join a Cyrodiil campaign and ask for a group in zone, this should get you into a PUG which for better or worse will make you AP.

Play lots of battlegrounds, even when you lose you get good AP now.

Cyrodiil is more forgiving for not knowing what you're doing, but the AP can be lower if your faction/group isn't good.
You can also go into a delve in Cyrodiil and kill a boss for an AP gain buff.

Sorry I can't be more helpful than that.

You can get to Level 3 Alliance War just doing the (safe) Cyrodiil training tutorial. Then do the daily quests in your Alliance zone town (for example DC is Bruma). It's not totally safe, you'll probably get ganked a couple times - but it's mostly PVE-ish questing. Or find a group of your alliance and ride the fringes with them.

Endless hail is an ok substitute, but if you're willing to die a few times - get the caltrops :)

run battlegrounds. You get at least 7k AP for every battleground even in third place and up to just over 12k if you win. Each battleground takes less than 10 minutes. I average 750-1000 AP a minute in battlegrounds. While your out and about "loot" bookshelves" I got a lot of skill levels in various lines that way as well. I had level 3 in assault before i even stepped foot in a battleground or any type of pvp.

Go into PvP and do the starter quests. That will get you a skill point and some XP in your Alliance War skill lines. After that just find wherever there are cross-swords on the map and go there. The transitus shrines let you fast travel to any keep that has an unbroken connection to it from the starter area.

With Bow/Bow, all medium unoptimized gear (from your description) you are going to be very killable so you probably want to stealth and try to pick people off with snipe-->heavy attack combo. Flip outposts/keeps/resources with groups.

Don't worry about dying, just accept that you will die a lot. It may take a few days of a few hours each to unlock caltrops, but you will also get Vigour before that which is a great stamina heal, even for Wardens.

Also, when you want to leave PvP you have to travel back to either starter area and use the wayshrines there. "How do I leave PvP?" is a pretty standard question in chat.

Sounds good. I don’t feel comfortable dragging a group down in the bgs, so I’ll go get wrecked in Cyrodiil for a while, lol.

With the recent buff to AP gained from Battlegrounds, those are the fastest way to level PVP skill lines, even if you aren't good at PVP. Even if your team loses every game, you should be able to get Caltrops in just 21 games, and most likely even if you're terrible, you will get carried in some games and come in first or second. At 10 minutes per game, that will take about 3 hours of playing to get the skill.

I probably shouldn't be telling you this, but if you have a fast/durable horse because you've been buying riding lessons every day, you can learn to be a "tick leech".

Look at the map for telltale signs of activity. It's the gold starburst around a keep, or the crossed swords of a fight. If you hover over a bursted keep, it will tell you how many siege are down.

Purchase and slot rapid maneuver, and when you see a keep being attacked by your alliance, ride to it. Get close to the wall so you're within range of the offensive tick.

Use any AP you earn to purchase door and wall repair kits, and slot them to a hot key. After the keep is taken, immediately start repairing.

As @Turelus said, killing a boss in a delve will give you a bonus. It's +20% AP earned for 1 hour, so hit one hourly.

So i have had my stamden healer.. yeah healer... parked in Kyne for about a week.

The healing output of the stamina warden is really quite high add to that the tankiness from the first skill in the frost skill tree and alround the amazingness that is the Trees ultimate. Makes you an asset in a seige.

As a bow bow build i have been using the knockback arrow, draining shot, for self peel. Then following up the stun with lethal arrow, sub assult and many birds pulling off many solo kills.

The stam warden us just really strong in pvp. They are just excellent support and brawlers.

Yep and even if your not that good at pvp you will get 2nd and 1st more often than you think. You also dont need a fast horse, have to run all over the map to get a fight, invest in siege, join a laggy zerg, or a bunch of other nonsense. BGs are really the most painless way for a pver to gain a pvp skill.

Queues are relatively short. I usually get a BG in less than 3 minutes unless i queue at an oddball time like early weekday morning or middle of the night. And you can do other things while waiting on a queue. I'll craft, run dailies, gather, or manage bank/trader while im queuing. You load in to BG wait less than a minute for it to start, go for the objective for usually less than 10 minutes, hit "F" to leave after it done and load back to where you was ready to pick up where you left off while waiting for the next queue.

No hoops to jump through, Wham bam thank you mam.

People who say battlegrounds are not joking...

I finally tried them last night and accidentally got 63k AP just derping around with an old friend just trying to figure out the maps and modes and mostly just attacking people. Way too much fun. Slot mobility skills, though.

From my experience and I'm sure others have said this as well...go to Cyrodiil and join a zerg, a good one. I leveled a few characters to get caltraps in like a day or 2. Spam AoEs and heals in battle and repair keep walls and doors. I use to hate PvP...still do a little. But if you get a good group...time will fly because you will be having fun. Also....be ready to be on horse for 80% of the time...the term "Horse Riding" simulator is what i think it's called...lol.

Repair, repair, repair... and then heal.

Just stock-up on repair stones and wood and repair every wall and door you run into that isn't 100%. Respec to magicka (temporarily) grab a healing staff and heal everyone and everything. If you're new to PVP, healing others is the easiest thing to do and you'll get good AP.

    Mindset.

Go to PVP not with the view of 'Have I got Caltrops yet?' - but with a view of trying to learn the ropes, playing the game and having fun.

Before you know it those caltrops wil lbe yours and you won't even notice!

    Wall repair takes forever.

Join a group, stay on crown, and get those offensive and defensive ticks.

Battlegrounds. Zerging gives much less ap especially for unexperienced players. Keep in mind that in zerg fights people are dying and getting rezzed pretty often, and killing someone who just rezzed drastically reduces ap gains, especially if youre in a large group.
Bgs, on the other hand, give you a certain amount of ap at the end of the match. Even if you lose, you get 7k points. And you skip all the horse riding and lag.

I'd go into the below lvl 50 PvP campaign, and do the first couple of quests.

If you don't want to fight, you can repair keep walls and doors and get AP that way. It will be expensive, but you can avoid all fighting and still get AP. Just buy some repair kits, and head out to a keep on the frontier, especially one that has been in a battle recently. Equip the repair kit and walk the walls trying to 'use' the kit. Every repair gets some AP.

You can also head to the towns and do PvE quests there. You might get attacked, but might not. Same with any delves you find.

If you do want to fight, advertize in chat and get into a large group/zerg. Stay with them and attack whenever you can. You will die a lot, of course, but that costs nothing.

    1. Zerg surf. Find a zerg and stick with them, lay down whatever AoE abilities you can in pinch points(wall breaches, flags, etc). Back bar a resto staff(doesnt matter if you are a stam build) and heal the zerg.
    2. Get on the walls with some scattershot siege. Scattershot siege is worthless and wont kill anyone...but it has the largest AoE of all siege and WILL tag the most players per shot.
    3. Repair walls, doors, etc. Rez dead players....all gives AP

Your goal is not to kill anyone...its to use the "relative" safety of the zerg to tag as many people as you can so you get credit when they are eventually killed...AoEs(the larger the better) are your friend for rushing your alliance war skill line. Same with tagging people with heals

thoughts of a PVP amateur from over the years....

If yer a middling player like myself, running with a LFG ZERG (20+ player groups.. no "small man") as a healer has always been profitable. If yer not familiar with PVP, my recommendation would be to unlock the alliance skills in the non-vet campaign, with no CPs. Your more likely to face similarly skilled players, and you won't have to contend with the balance issues that CP power creep has brought to the game.

I personally would avoid BATTLEGROUNDS, if you have concerns about your own abilities.. there's more expectation on the individual to perform there, versus a non-vet PVP zerg group. I'd hate to be the guy who under performs and costs the team. :(

You can get some crazy almost free AP from just running with a group in PVP, 12k AP from keep flips defenses is common during busy times.
