Magicka Templar PVP !DPS!

x_Demogorgon_x
Hey y’all, so I’ve been trying to get a solid build off my magicka DPS templar in PVP, cyrodiil, Battlegrounds, dueling, all that. But I’m having problems all around with sustain and damage. Damage is getting better, but my sustain is awful. I’m an Argonian DPS and currently running skoria, Julianos, and willpower.

Can anyone help me get this stuff right.. Love this character but I can’t get it pvp worthy.

what weapons and which skills do you use, that might help us suggest thing for you.
additionally how much magicka regen are you running atm?
in light armor a magicka regen of 1.5k is surely something you want to achieve.
depending on you skills and weapons, i would rather suggest, that you run another set instead of willpower. for example, if you are running sword and shield backbar, you might consider lich jewellry and sword and boar. then you are free to use what weapon you wish: firestaff, lightningstaff or dual wield on fronbar.
a good alternative set for magplar dd's is warmaiden as long as you deal damage with class abilities like dark flare or jabs.

You can also backbar certain Templar abilities and keep war maiden front bar. Like pre-cast solar barrage then swap to your war maiden bar to get the SD bonus. Same for empowering sweeps if you have to use an ultimate early or spear shards to have a dot ticking to help you switch from offensive to defense.

When using primarily class abilities for damage, I would suggest Axiom over War Maiden, because it boosts Vamp's Bane and BoL in addition to the magic damage stuff. Most builds I'm aware of make heavy use of destro staffs though and neither set helps with those.

Spell power cure and mechanical acuity are great Templar damage sets. A resto staff back bar may help with sustain problems, but wouldn't be ideal. I would suggest SPC, and mechanical acuity with domihaus and shadowrend (would require either dual swords or s&b on front or back). Then go atronach, and if you need more sustain Witchmother brew. Should be putting you close to if not over 2000 recovery at that point, then you can use your Templar ability that grants magicka steal (300 magicka per second when damaging an enemy). That would give you plenty of damage and recovery, but you might be a bit squishy! Have to balance yourself to your liking after that.

i would suggest spellpowercure only if slotted backbar like blobs did in his build. slotted on front bar is a waste. also sword and board front bar is pretty meaningless for magplars, since you would have to go for jabs as spammable, which just synergizes better with dual wield or lightning staff, since blocking and jabbing is not possible.
the other morph of repentance is also a bad idea in my opinion. when he wants sustain and damage, he just should go with a destrostaff and elemental drain, which also provides additional "penetration" twice, since passives from staves gives you penetration again.

My favorite dps set up is a zerg surfing dark flare build. Otherwise, go defensive and small group it's more satisfying.

Coincidentally I went with a Dark Flare build recently, just to see how it works in the current environment. Axiom+War Maiden+Slimecraw for ( in theory ) maximum oopmh, when zerg surfing defense and resource management are less crucial.

I was underwhelmed tbh. on the doll DF would crit for 40k ish, the highest I have seen in Cyro was like 12k though and on players with decent builds it would be more in the 5-8k range. If it hit at all that is - The combination of most players whizzing around with streak or at super speed or perma rolling and/or cloaking with general lag issues makes it highly unreliable.

Yea, it's hilarious to burn the occasional new player to cinders, but there are much better builds for the same purpose and their caveats and tradeoffs aren't as extreme. Cos if you can't hide behind a zerg, you're dead meat.
