Nope. It changed with the Outfit System.

Now, you can't convert (certain limited) equipped gears to Imperial. Instead you can use the Imperial appearance for free in the Outfit system. You will have to pay to dye those items on your outfit, though.

Now you use the outfit system to change the appearance to imperial and it works for dropped and crafted gear. When you choose imperial as the style there will be no gold cost. But, as noted, there is a gold cost if you also apply a dye.

That option is gone. If you want to create equipped gear with the Imperial appearance, you'll have to learn the Imperial motif and craft the gear.

There's still a bug to be fixed in that the "convert" option appears as it used to, but it now no longer does anything. There is no error message, no alert that the functionality has been changed, nothing to indicate that the conversion did not go through until you look at the item again.

The gamepad interface needs to be updated to reflect that the conversion functionality has been removed from the game.

On PC with mouse and keyboard, I get a messgae that the functionality has been changed and moved to the Outfit System, describing the change.

I think it only worked for non-set gear before, which was a very limited option since nobody would wear that past a certain level of competence at the game. What it does ATM is to unlock Imperial style for outfits account wide, which is more useful.

To be pedantic, the converter worked on crafted gear, a few sets with a variable appearance like Armor of the Trainee, and non-set gear. Crafted gear was probably the best way to use the converter.

However, while the change does do a better job of letting us use the appearance of Imperial gear, we now have to pay to dye the items with that appearance where previously we could freely dye the equipped gear AND we can no longer decon converted items to get the style mat (more an issue with Morag Tong, since I'm not sure that anyone needs to do that for nickel, but its still a lost functionality).

No such message appears on the gamepad interface on PC. I can't speak to the consoles.
