for magicka templar you want to focus all magicka, and light armor. For your level just put on pieces that give max magicka, spell damage or magicka recovery bonuses. You probably come across some while travelling and picking things up. Eventually sets like 5 piece julianos, mechanical acuity and sets with minor slayer bonuses will be used that's better when you are cp 160 plus.

Skill wise you have puncturing sweeps, blazing spear, vampires bane or reflective light (morphs of first skill in dawn's wrath line), wall of elements from destro line is nice too with an inferno staff.

You will figure out more as you go and level up, and from asking in game.

What I'm saying is mainly for dps purposes, obviously other ablities will be the focus of your bars like from restoring light if you are more a healing spec or need an off heal. I can literally write an essay so just play around with all the abilities from the skill lines as you level them up and check it out.

It depends what you want to do: heal or dps. Also depends on PVE or PVP.

DPS stands for Damage Per Second. A more apt term is DD or Damage Dealer. While leveling, nearly every character is spec'ed as a damage dealer for solo content. Once you reach CP160+ you can start focusing more on individual roles like healer.

You can check out websites like Alcast’s to see what skills that you will want when you reach cp 160. Training gear is the best for leveling. You are a magicka toon so go 5 light 1med 1 heavy This will open passives for all. Your main focus will be light armor. As for skills, you can level those however you choose. Just remember to have at least 1 skill from each skill line on both of your bars. You will also want to level destro staff. I hope this helps some. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

If you are going magicka you will not be using a bow. You can go 2 destro or 1 destro 1 healing staff if you want to heal.

@apollo1907 , if you post your Platform/Server (PC/EU, PS4/NA) here, you can probably find someone willing to make you set armor for a very small fee.

Flame or Lightning staff on one bar, Restoration Staff on the other. At some point, you may want to level up One-hand/Shield and Dual Wield, but you won't use many or any of the active skills from those, just the passives.

    two words - aurora javelin...

not the strongest, most effective skill - but, great for laughs...never gets old watching stuff fly - especially in pvp...

second on the "too much fun" templar goodies - as soon as possible hit everything with radiant destruction...it'll make you smile...

different approaches - but, i'd suggest investing some attribute points in health and a bit in stamina until you reach level 40 or so...

by then you should have a better understanding of how to use and balance your resource pools with abilities, gear, mundus stones and food/drink/potion buffs

From experiences of actually using a magicka templar. You can go either heavy or light. Depends on what you are using it for. There are detailed skills you could use that may be needed to switch out depending on the situation. Is for what you are doing pve or pvp? If pve what kind of pve are you doing (too many to list for this part), if for pvp what kind of pvp sorts are you planning to do? Battlegrounds? Cyrodiil? Imperial city? Imperial sewers?

WTF? Never suggest someone to use that ability... it throws people out of aoe... only times to use is to throw someone off of something.

I'd suggest radiant aura over repentance, breath of life over honor the dead, if having problems with keeping alive I suggest keeping a ward on you as well such as ward ally... that way you get a barrier guaranteed versus take a chance you don't get it. As for why that barrier... it is a very powerful barrier, stronger than light armor if done right.

Also reason why I don't use repentance is because radiant aura provides an excellent aoe magic steal (as well as if someone else uses repentance you get nothing), hitting all enemies within the range it hits with magic steal. Topple that with using puncturing sweeps and you can do pretty well on keeping alive. If you still have problems you could always throw down a blood altar and give yourself an excellent life steal range.

blood altar, that's an oldie but goodie...

before I had a bazillion champion points, i used blood alter a bunch to help stay alive...

shield, heal, buff, defuff, manage your resources, stay mobile, put together a decent two bar rotation...figure out what gear can help you...

deciding what -costume/armor/outfit/skin/polymorph/disguise makes your character look the coolest...that's the real challenge...

forget about picking just the right mount for your character...

it's a ton of stuff to learn and absorb...

I started the game with a mag templar and still love to play him. Never could adapt him to long vet dungeon boss fights but he's still a blast on mobs and lower level bosses. Coordinated gear is a big thing. I ran around for months not knowing how to put skills, gear, enchants, potions, etc. together. But one of the great things about ESO is the ability to adapt whatever toon you're playing to your style. It just takes some time. Lots of good people around to help out also. Look into finding a good guild. Members can help you out through sticking points. Most of all, have fun.

Being a templar has a lot to do with learning how to dance around enemies ^V^ herding them.
