I had an issue on the quest ‘Walk on Far Shore’ where the game would crash to a color screen (red mostly) at the time the army spawned. I opened a ticket and after submitting the Game Consultant Report I received a canned response to update my video drivers, set the launcher to run as admin, etc. I never install the latest video drivers but opt to install two versions back. I have only had problems with one game that I could not fix a crashing issue in my many years of gaming by not having the latest video driver.
Against my better judgment I followed the advice given and updated to the latest video driver. The game promptly crashes as soon as I logged in. Keep in mind that the game was running smoothly before I applied the “fixes” indicating it was a quest issue and not a hardware issue. I removed all the “fixes” and did a clean install of the video drivers to the one that was working before. It still crashed. I did a clean install of the game. No luck, still crashes.
I vaguely remember having this issue when I first bought the game and found a fix for it. It had to do with editing the UserSettings.txt files in the My Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live folder. These are the entries I changed:
SET SkipPregameVideos "1"
SET PreferExclusiveFullscreen "0"
SET RequestedNumJobThreads "0"
SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "0"
I did the bit where you change ‘SET GraphicsDriver.7’ to "OPENGL" but that kept changing back to “D3D11”. Anybody know where I should change that so it keeps the “OpenGL” value?
