Emails going to the wrong player

Long version: I started sending in-game mails with decon items to a guildie who stated they could use them on an alt. Let's just say their name is @Guildie. First days everything was okay. Then I started to get those emails returned for no apparent reason.

Upon asking if they still wanted the items, they stated they did, and if the emails got bounced back it must have been a misclick in their part. I sent them again, they received them. All was good.

Forward a couple of days. More items sent, and surprise, more items returned. I checked with them again. They didn't return them. By now I was thinking this must have been a misunderstanding so I double-checked the name of the person who had returned them to me. Email had been returned by a @Stranger, character name 'Guildie'.

Okay I realized my mistake. I was sending items to 'Guildie' instead of @Guildie, and the game delivered them to the person with a different username but whose character was named 'Guildie'. Apologies were made, I contacted the @Stranger explaining the situation, no answer.

From then on I made sure I sent the emails to @Guildie (with an @) to make sure they got to the right person. Color me surprised when they kept being returned by this @Stranger player.

Okay maybe there is some magical character in my friend's name which I can neither see nor type, so I'll send messages straight from the guild roster from now on.

They got the email. Success. Except that when I send more from the guild roster when my guildie is offline, they apparently get sent to this @Stranger again for no reason.

Why is this happening? Why is the game mixing two different people when they have different usernames, and the username on the email is picked directly from the guild roster, hence no room for mistakes? This is worrisome particularly since it could have been something valuable which the @Stranger person would simply decide to keep.

TLDR; sending an email to a @Guildie will have said email delivered to @Guildie when they are online, but it will be delivered to a @Stranger with a character named 'Guildie' when @Guildie is not online. Even when emails are sent through the guild roster.

Sent another mail to the player from the guild roster while they were online. Got it returned by the other person on the next day. I am officially giving up on trying to send items to this person seeing as the email system is clearly unreliable. Will think twice about sending anything worthy to anyone's mail from now on too.
