WARNING! READ BEFORE YOU BUY THE NEW OUTFIT STATION!

So I shelled out 500 writ vouchers on the new Outfit Station for my house, only to later discover my existing Dye Station (which only cost me 35 writ vouchers) functions EXACTLY the same! The new one is larger and looks different, but in terms of functionality its identical. Why would zenimax do such a thing??

So a warning for all, if you have a dye station in your house already, its been upgraded to an outfit station, and there's no point buying the new outfit station.

I've put in a ticket asking for a refund for my writ vouchers, I don't hold out much hope but its worth a shot.

I only had a quick flip through the class abilities, true. But I don't understand why the new outfit station is even in the game, or why its more than 10x more than it was previously to buy with precious writ vouchers. We shouldn't have to read all the patch notes to know this stuff, it simply shouldn't be in the game, or it should have informed me when I logged in that my dye station had changed to an outfit station.

Aaaanyway if I get anywhere with the refund I'll post here to let you guys know.

C'mon man, how many of us miss important information in the wall of text patch notes they release every time? Have a bit of compassion, 500 writ vouchers is a hell of a waste and an easy refund for ZOS.

I agree. It’s a video game, not a job. Religiously reading the patch notes like they’re corporate policy memos should not be a requisite for understanding the basic functionality of high priced items in the game or changes to the functionality of other items.

The 500 writ station serves no purpose outside of being a cosmetic addition to the house, and it’s Zos’ job to make sure that’s clearly presented to the player.

So, you failed to read the patch notes, test your dye station based on intuition, ask in zone chat or guild chat, then came here to SCREAM your thread title to the masses?

Gratz on your second station. You got what you paid for.

It's sad that some people have so much time in their day that they can do everything they want, including reading every word of the Patch Notes. I agree, these aren't corporate policy memos. Chill. Why beat someone up over finding something off in the game. That's the whole purpose of the forums. I have seen some ridiculous things come through these forums. I don't think this is one of them.

So, for the people that keep telling you to "read the patch notes", what would they have told you? Would they have said the 500 wri voucher version is exactly the same? Does the cheaper 35 voucher one still exist, or did they just up the price of the new ones and change the old ones?

The amount of entitled people on here who think that everyone has the time to go through every version of the patch notes with a fine tooth comb is actually hilarious. This was a deceptive thing to do 100%. The vast majority of players in ESO don't even belong to the forums let alone read every patch note.

Lots of posters on here exsist in a bubble where they think everyone spends as much time on the game and these forums as they do which just isn't the case.

Reading inane ToS also saves a lot of potential ballache, but who actually reads those things? Patch notes can be busy [snip] too. I looked at the cloth station and thought I'd hold off and was lucky enough to realise it did nothing that i couldn't already do with the other table.

It is perfectly reasonable for any person to assume that a new 500 writ outfit station would be different than the old 35 writ dye station in functionality.

I did read the patch notes, so I knew the old dye stations were transformed into the new outfit stations. I find this change should be accompanied by at least a confirmation prompt warning that the new outfit station has the same functionality as the old dye station. This is just obvious to anyone who values the player experience.

Research before you buy. Same in game as it is IRL.

In addition to patch notes, this was also explained in at least one website article as well as ESO Live.

While I do agree that the 500 writ price tag is nonsense for a visual upgrade, the fact that dye stations have been improved to function exactly like outfit stations has been clarified multiple times. It has been mentioned in the patch notes, on the forums, in ESO Live streams, and also in the in-game description of the item. You also could’ve visited your own dye station and realize that it’s been updated function-wise. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but after weeks of the fact being public before its final implementation, I can’t see any valid excuse as to why you missed it apart from not paying attention/not caring. Patch notes are there to inform you about every change they make to the game, and you’re constantly reminded to read them. I understand that some people don’t like reading them, but that’s not an excuse in your case.

Hmm, i cant really say where i stand on this, not reading the patch notes before a major update in an mmorpg is not very smart but i get it that not everyone has the time and patience to read through it. On the other side, it was not only in the patch notes, there was a news about the outfit system a month ago: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/26295

How much time does it take to skim the patchnotes, then read the detail on any part your think might affect your gameplay? Guessing it takes about as much time as it did to read this thread?

How much time does it take to obtain 500 writ vouchers? Considering the cost of each, it would have been worth a quick glance.
That's the whole purpose of the forums. I have seen some ridiculous things come through these forums. I don't think this is one of them.
Which ironically is the location of the patch notes?

Is it tragic (overstated, to be sure) in a way? Sure.

    Was it avoidable? Absolutely.

There were a handful of other ways it could have been learned about before the purchase. Clearly the OP knew enough about the patch to know it was even a feature.

Some would say ZOS is taking advantage of people who don’t read but who are willing to buy crowns for X and Y.

Others would argue it’s the customers fault.

Kinda makes you wonder about the companies ethics and why are we still buying crowns whether it’s a sub or direct purchase.

A third argument could be that they gave the old dye station the upgraded functionality as a courtesy to those that already have it, something they didn't have to do. They could have opted to make everyone pay the cost for the Outfit stations, but they didn't.

Did you know that the majority of players in this game do not even know that ZoS releases patch notes? They aren't even on the forums. They don't even know things like "ESO Live" exsist. Some people's only free-time is spent playing the game and they dont have the time to go digging for information in each installment of patch notes like the hardest of the hardcore player. Get out of your bubble.
