Material dyes - what gives?

I thought I'd finally play with the outfit system, and finally dye my greatsword with that sexy dark blue shade of voidsteel weapons. That's rank 9 material dye, right? There goes... and wtf? The sword turned into slightly purple version of its originaly rubedite red.
What the heck?... :(

I have also notice this. Some turn a completely different colour. When it's mean't to be blue it will turn purple etc.
    No Lollygagging.

I don't view the "mixed" rank dyes as strict colors, but what the item would look like if it were crafted at the rank. Although as the dye name suggests, voidstone is generally a shade of violet, ranging from red-violet to blue-violet depending on the item's motif style.

Exactly this. They even explained it in the patch notes, and that's why these dyes are separate from the others at all times.

They're "if I made gear at this rank it would look like this" colors

And that's exactly what is NOT happening.

Some motifs (namely Xivkyn and Glass) have inherent colors of them. Most dyes just shade them instead of actually changin the color.

I tested this on a lousy breton greatsword.
